A rural town celebrated for space exploration, an eccentric Elvis festival and fresh food production fears it will soon be known as nothing but a rubbish dump.

Parkes, in central western NSW, has been earmarked for a garbage incinerator that would process 732,000 tonnes of Sydney's waste annually and convert it into heat, steam and electricity.

The developer's planning documents say the technology is state-of-the-art that will minimise carbon emissions and prioritise human and environmental health.

One Australian city is running out of landfill space, so its trash may head to these rural towns

That's the question at the centre of an inquiry into the proposed development of rubbish incinerators in rural NSW, after the state government banned the same facilities in Sydney.

With the capital city's landfill capacity expected to run out by 2030, energy-from-waste plants that burn rubbish to generate heat, steam and electricity have been touted as a sustainable solution.

A facility earmarked for Parkes, in central western NSW, would process 732,000 tonnes of Sydney's rubbish per year, producing enough energy to power 100,000 homes.

    Parliamentary Inquiry comes to Parkes

Public hearings for the Parliamentary Inquiry on Proposed Energy from Waste Facilities began in December, Nichole Overall MLC leading discussions as chair. A public forum and hearing will be held in Parkes early next week.

The Select Committee for the Parliamentary Inquiry on Proposed Energy from Waste Facilities hits the road in four days to bring a public forum to Parkes.

On Monday, 13 April they will hear directly from the community regarding proposals to build energy from waste facilities in NSW.

Energy from waste converts non-hazardous residual waste, which can’t be recycled, into energy sources such as heat, steam and electricity and there is a proposal to develop a plant for the Parkes Special Activation Precinct, west of the town.

Here’s the Update You’ve Been Looking for on Chris and Leah’s Relationship After ‘Age of Attraction’

My favorite thing about watching reality dating shows: trying to figure out whether the couples from said shows actually wind up together…which is why I’m currently trying to figure out whether 41-year-old flight attendant Leah Woolfolk and 26-year-old public speaker/business owner Chris Dahlan after the Age of Attraction season 1 finale. Despite having the smallest age gap of the six couples featured on this season, the two definitely still had their struggles—and if you’re wondering whether Leah and Chris are still together following Age of Attraction, you’ve come to the right place.

While neither Leah nor Chris has appeared to have relocated (Chris is seemingly still living in Miami, while Leah is seemingly still based in Los Angeles), the two are definitely still on good terms (if not a full-blown item). For instance: Ahead of the finale, Chris posted a scene of himself and Leah from the show on Instagram, explaining, “This was actually the first proper conversation Leah and I had on camera.”

Which Age of Attraction Couples Broke Up in Season 1 Finale?

The Age of Attraction finale revealed which couples stayed together, broke up or got engaged.

Netflix released the conclusion on Wednesday, March 25, with each pair taking a break after living together to figure out their next steps. Some reunited on a hill in Canada to proclaim their love for their partner on the show, while others decided to part ways.

Before the show premiered, stars Andrew, Chris, John, Logan, Derek, Libby, Vanessa, Theresa and Leah addressed the backlash to the show.

“Initially the response [was so strong] because there wasn’t a lot of information when it was first released. The concept of the show made people go, ‘Oh, my God, here we go. A bunch of old and creepy guys with young girls,'” Andrew exclusively told Us Weekly. “I think Netflix has done a great job with the trailers and what they put out there to clarify that that’s not what this is going to be about.”
