    Rudd fears China may move to seize Taiwan in 2028

    Former prime minister Kevin Rudd fears Chinese President Xi Jinping may underestimate US resolve to defend Taiwan and move to take the strategic Pacific island democracy by force as early as 2028.

    Speaking to the Ezra Klein podcast in his new role as chief executive of leading foreign policy think tank Asia Society, Rudd described a dangerous window in two years’ time if an overconfident Xi, 73, viewed the confluence of presidential elections in the United States and Taiwan as a “unique opportunity”.

    Taiwan People's Party delegation visits Shanghai

    BEIJING – A mainland spokesperson on Wednesday confirmed that a youth delegation from the Taiwan People's Party is visiting Shanghai from Tuesday to Friday.

    Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a press conference that the delegation's four-day visit covers Yangshan Port, a major global shipping hub, the operating center of a public service hotline for citizens to offer suggestions and voice concerns about city governance, and the Shanghai Sihang Warehouse Battle Memorial commemorating those who fought in the War of the Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

    The delegation will also have a discussion and interaction with young faculty and students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, she said.

    ‘Shameful’ Trump act slammed after US star’s ban overturned

    FIFA’s decision to overturn Folarin Balogun’s one-game suspension at the World Cup after an intervention from Donald Trump has incited fury, with the US star now free to play against Belgium in the round of 16.

    Balogun was handed a red card during the host nation’s clash against Bosnia and Herzegovina, which initially ruled him out of the next match.

    But in a stunning turn of events, the governing body have pushed back the striker’s suspension by a year, allowing him to play on Tuesday (AEST).

    It has since been widely reported that White House officials made a direct call to FIFA asking boss Gianni Infantino to review Balogun’s sanction.

    Dana White Announces Two Title Fights For UFC's Return To Philadelphia

    UFC CEO Dana White called into Pat McAfee’s show today with some huge news that continues an incredible slate of summer fights.

    “Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry,” White announced as the main event of UFC 330 on August 15 in Philadelphia. For Makhachev, it will be his first time defending the welterweight title since claiming it at UFC 322 back in November. He had previously reigned as one of the greatest lightweight champions in UFC history.

    “This is the first time we're back in Philly since 2019, I think, so I love it,” White continued. “I love going to Celtics games in Philly. The Philly fans are awesome, man. I love Philly cheese steaks… and I can't wait to get back there. The fans are the best.”

    Islam Makhachev’s first welterweight title defense is set for UFC 330 against top contender Ian Machado Garry.

    On Wednesday, the UFC announced that Makhachev (28-1) will fight Garry (17-1) in the Aug. 15 main event at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, with strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern (16-5) defending her title against Gillian Robertson (17-8) in the co-main event.

    Makhachev won the welterweight title with a dominant decision win over Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322. He previously held the UFC lightweight title, successfully defending it a record four consecutive times before vacating it and moving up to 170 pounds. Since suffering his lone loss in 2015, Makhachev has won 16 straight fights.
