League Two outfit Rotherham United have offered former Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams a fresh route back into the professional game after more than a year on the sidelines. The 26-year-old defender has signed a short-term contract with the South Yorkshire club following an extended trial period at their training ground.

Williams has officially returned to football with Rotherham after proving his fitness to head coach Alex Bruce and director of football Steve McClaren. Although the fourth-tier club initially decided against offering the free agent a deal in August after he began training with them in June, he continued working at Roundwood. His last competitive outing came back in August 2025 during a brief spell with Hull City.

Former Hawks, Power defender joins Giants as development coach

The Giants have landed former Power and Hawks defender Ryan Burton as a development coach

FORMER Port Adelaide and Hawthorn defender Ryan Burton is joining Greater Western Sydney as a development coach.

The 29-year-old spent 2026 playing with Southport in the VFL after his 162-game AFL career ended this time last year.

Burton was originally drafted by the Hawks with pick No.19 in 2015 before being involved in the Chad Wingard trade four years later.

The South Australian will now make another move from the Gold Coast to Sydney next month to help the Giants' young players launch into pre-season.

Burton is the second appointment of the off-season after the Giants signed Peel Thunder premiership coach Adam Read as an assistant coach.

Former Hawk and Power player Ryan Burton is joining Adam Kingsley's GWS Giants staff as a development coach for 2027.

Having most recently held a similar role at the Gold Coast Suns, while simultaneously playing for the Southport Sharks in the VFL, Burton joins the Giants during a time of significant upheaval at the expansion outpost.

After 19 years with Fremantle, Adam Read joined the club in recent times, while veteran on-field presences continue to head for the exits.

162 AFL games across the two clubs set Burton up for success, in developing the Giants' significant pool of young talent.

“Having the chance to begin my coaching career at a club like the Giants is incredibly exciting to me,” Burton said.

Collingwood defender Billy Frampton faced the AFL Tribunal on Wednesday night

BILLY Frampton's rough conduct charge has been dismissed at the Tribunal on Wednesday night, with the Collingwood defender free to play in the Magpies' next match.

Frampton was facing a three-match ban for his King's Birthday tackle on Brody Mihocek that left the Melbourne forward with a fractured neck.

The AFL argued it was an "inherently dangerous" tackle in which a "reasonable player" would have released Mihocek given he was in a vulnerable position.

However, following a 90-minute hearing, the Tribunal sided with Frampton, saying his actions were not careless and that Mihocek's attempt to drive through the tackle had contributed to the "dreadful injury".

Frampton free to play despite tackle that left Mihocek with a fractured neck

Collingwood defender Billy Frampton is free to play, after the AFL tribunal found his tackle on Brody Mihocek that resulted in a fractured neck for the Demons forward was not considered unreasonable.

In Wednesday night’s hearing, the Magpie detailed his immediate concern for Mihocek, a 2023 premiership teammate, when he realised the Demon was injured.

“He said he needed help, [and] he couldn’t move, which was quite a distressing thing to hear,” Frampton said.

“He said that a few times straight away, which is why I reacted the way I did to call some people.”

Match review officer Michael Christian initially handed Frampton a three-match ban for the tackle that he graded careless and high, with severe impact. The incident left Mihocek with a neck injury that required surgery and almost certainly ended his season.
