    Defender out for season, midfielder added to injury list

    Collingwood’s Head of High Performance Jarrod Wade has provided an injury and health update ahead of Collingwood’s Round 22 match against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.  

    Jordan De Goey had glute soreness following Thursday’s game against Geelong. His availability for Round 22 will be assessed following main training on Thursday. 

    Joel Cochran sustained a concussion in Friday’s VFL game against Geelong. He has now entered protocols. 

    Tew Jiath sustained a moderate grade hamstring in the warm-up of VFL on Friday against Geelong. This is a six-to-eight-week injury, ruling Jiath out of the remainder of the season.

    Pies offer defender new deal as calls on veterans loom

    Veteran defender Jeremy Howe has been offered a new deal by the Magpies

    COLLINGWOOD has offered a one-year deal to Jeremy Howe as the Pies work through decisions on their veterans.

    Howe underwent surgery on a broken arm in recent days after suffering the injury in last week's loss to Geelong.

    However, he remains in the mix to play again this season if the Pies make the wildcard round or extend their campaign into September. 

    Separately, Collingwood has also made clear it wants the 36-year-old to play on in 2027, with the Pies offering a new deal for the important defender.

    Collingwood utility added to growing injury list

    Collingwood utility Pat Lipinski will be sidelined for at least a fortnight as injuries continue to mount at his club.

    Lipinski suffered a calf injury in the loss to Geelong that also featured injuries to his teammates Jeremy Howe and Harry Perryman.

    Howe fractured his left forearm against the Cats with a timeline on his return yet unknown, while Perryman suffered a hamstring strain and will miss at least three matches.

    Star Magpie Jordan De Goey is in doubt for Sunday's away game against West Coast because of a glute injury.

    Crows defender charged by Match Review Officer

    The Match Review Officer handed down the findings on Sunday afternoon.

    Adelaide defender Max Michalanney has been charged for striking by the Match Review Officer, following Showdown 60 on Saturday night. 

    Michalanney was cited for an incident mid-way through the second quarter involving Port Adelaide forward Mitch Georgiades. 

    The 22-year-old has been fined $1500 for the incident, which can be reduced to $1000 with an early guilty plea. 

    Michalanney will be free to play in the Crows’ Round 17 clash against West Coast at Optus Stadium on Friday night. 

    Randall played 80 games after making her debut in the Club’s historic first AFLW match in 2017.

    MATCH REVIEW: Duo cited for Showdown scrap

    The Match Review Officer's findings are in from Saturday's games in round 16

    MITCH Georgiades and Max Michalanney have both been fined after an altercation in the Showdown on Saturday night.

    The pair came together in the second quarter when Georgiades got stuck into Michalanney for a turnover in defensive 50, which led to a Power goal.

    Georgiades has been fined $3125, which can be reduced to $1875 with an early plea, for instigating a melee while Michalanney has been fined $1500, which can be reduced to $1000 with an early guilty plea, for striking Georgiades in retaliation.

    Pies defender learns Tribunal fate for Mihocek tackle

    Collingwood defender Billy Frampton faced the AFL Tribunal on Wednesday night

    BILLY Frampton's rough conduct charge has been dismissed at the Tribunal on Wednesday night, with the Collingwood defender free to play in the Magpies' next match.

    Frampton was facing a three-match ban for his King's Birthday tackle on Brody Mihocek that left the Melbourne forward with a fractured neck.

    The AFL argued it was an "inherently dangerous" tackle in which a "reasonable player" would have released Mihocek given he was in a vulnerable position.

    However, following a 90-minute hearing, the Tribunal sided with Frampton, saying his actions were not careless and that Mihocek's attempt to drive through the tackle had contributed to the "dreadful injury".

    Frampton free to play despite tackle that left Mihocek with a fractured neck

    Collingwood defender Billy Frampton is free to play, after the AFL tribunal found his tackle on Brody Mihocek that resulted in a fractured neck for the Demons forward was not considered unreasonable.

    In Wednesday night’s hearing, the Magpie detailed his immediate concern for Mihocek, a 2023 premiership teammate, when he realised the Demon was injured.

    “He said he needed help, [and] he couldn’t move, which was quite a distressing thing to hear,” Frampton said.

    “He said that a few times straight away, which is why I reacted the way I did to call some people.”

    Match review officer Michael Christian initially handed Frampton a three-match ban for the tackle that he graded careless and high, with severe impact. The incident left Mihocek with a neck injury that required surgery and almost certainly ended his season.

    Bournemouth: Defender Alex Jimenez suspended in club social media post investigation

    Bournemouth have dropped defender Alex Jimenez from their squad while they investigate posts on social media.

    The 21-year-old Spaniard, who arrived from AC Milan last summer, will not feature in Saturday's Premier League fixture against Fulham.

    The club said: "AFC Bournemouth are aware of posts circulating on social media involving right-back, Alex Jimenez.

    "The club understand the seriousness of the matter and it is currently being investigated.

    "As a result, Alex will not be included in the squad for tomorrow's Premier League game against Fulham and the club will be making no further comment at this time."

    Jimenez initially joined on loan before signing permanently, external for the south coast side in February on a deal running until 2031.

    Bournemouth have confirmed Álex Jiménez, has been omitted from their squad for Saturday’s game at Fulham after they opened an investigation relating to social media posts.

    It follows alleged exchanges on social media between Jiménez and an individual who appears to state that they are a 15-year-old girl.

    Jiménez has made 32 appearances for Bournemouth this season and started their past five Premier League matches.

    In a statement released on Friday, the club said: “AFC Bournemouth are aware of posts circulating on social media involving right-back, Álex Jiménez. The club understand the seriousness of the matter and it is currently being investigated. As a result, Álex will not be included in the squad for tomorrow’s Premier League game against Fulham and the club will be making no further comment at this time.”

    Callan Ward joins Brett Kirk as namesake of Derby Best On Ground Medal

    The medal awarded to the Best on Ground player during the AFL Sydney Derby will now be known as the Kirk-Ward Medal, bearing the names of GWS GIANTS great Callan Ward and Sydney Swans legend Brett Kirk to honour both clubs’ icons of the game.

    Since 2012 when the Sydney Derby was first established, the Brett Kirk Medal was bestowed to the best player on the ground in honour of the Swans hero.

    The match between Atlético de Madrid and Getafe on matchday 28 of LALIGA left one of the most surreal sequences of the season. At the start of the second half, the visiting defender Abdel Abqar was sent off after a peculiar assault on the local forward Alexander Sorloth, in an action that went unnoticed by the human eye but not by technology.
