2026 Hyundai Elexio Review: Hyundai calls on China to help it invigorate its EV sales in Australia. Should you be tempted?

Don’t underestimate the importance of the Hyundai Elexio to the Korean giant’s plans to revive its EV fortunes in Australia.

It’s pitched into the most popular five-door five-seat SUV segment, priced pretty competitively (with caveats) and comes with a nice, long WLTP-rated range between recharges.

It’s also the first passenger car Hyundai has ever imported from China to sell in Australia. In fact Australia is the first export market for the brand new Elexio, which is the product of the Beijing Hyundai joint-venture.

For a company that’s previously admitted it’s done a “terrible job” selling its EVs in Australia, the Elexio is therefore a fresh start.

Santa set to deliver Melbourne's coldest Christmas in 20 years

Christmas Day 2025 is shaping up to be Melbourne's fourth-coldest on record.  (ABC News file photo)

Melbourne is forecast to hit a high of 17 degrees on Christmas Day — the city's fourth-coldest December 25 on record.

The city's average maximum this December is sitting on 24.1C, thanks to a few very hot days mixed in with the cooler weather.

But it's not all bad news for warm weather lovers, with above-average temperatures expected in the new year.

When it comes to Christmas Day, Melburnians generally split into two groups: those who like cool and comfortable weather for a warm Christmas lunch, and those who are hanging out for a summer scorcher and a lazy afternoon by the pool.

Christmas Day thunderstorms now on cards for Perth

The Christmas Day forecast — which predicts a sizzling 40C maximum and a record-breaking 26C minimum temperature — has taken a surprising turn.

The Bureau of Meteorology updated the December 25 forecast on Wednesday morning, with thunderstorms now a possibility for the Perth metro area.

Meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said a weather system generating storms is moving across the State.

“This low pressure trough you can see here is also likely to generate dry, gusty, thunderstorms at times during the day, which may reach as far south as Perth,” Ms Bradbury said.

The thunderstorms would reach Perth by the afternoon, with the Bureau also forecasting the chance of a light shower.

Sydney can expect showers and a top of 23C, Melbourne a chilly 17C and Brisbane a balmy 34C

Melbourne is set for a cool and windy Christmas, while rain is forecast in Sydney and Perth is set for a scorcher.

Forecast rain is dampening the risk of bushfires on Christmas Day for most capital cities, but parts of the nation will be on heatwave alert.

Melbourne could have its coldest Christmas day since 2006, when it only reached 14.5C. The city can expect a cloudy day with medium chance of showers, rainfall totals across the city should be less than 5mm, with less than 1-2mm more likely.

Kate Hudson and Jeremy Allen White Go Deep on Springsteen, Making Films ‘About Music Saving People’ and Why Rom-Coms Are a ‘Game-Changer’

There are no better actors for making beautiful music together than Kate Hudson and Jeremy Allen White. Hudson stormed Hollywood at 20 as the hippie muse of Cameron Crowe’s “Almost Famous.” And this year, she delivers a career-best turn in “Song Sung Blue” as one-half of a Neil Diamond tribute band whose true story is as uplifting as it is heartbreaking. White, out of his chef’s apron from “The Bear,” takes on the formidable task of portraying Bruce Springsteen at his most emotionally vulnerable and artistically free in “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.” Here they talk tight denim, classic guitars and the rules of romantic comedy.
