One sound and a diagnosis devastated Tara. Now, she’s hunting Glasgow gold

Tara Neyland remembers lying on a table at a neurologist’s clinic and hearing a ticking sound. Relentless ticking. She knew it spelt trouble. And she was bawling her eyes out.

“I was a mess,” Neyland, who’s eyeing off para-cycling gold on the Commonwealth Games velodrome this week, tells nine.com.au.

The test she was undergoing was a nerve conduction study. It was 2023 and she was 29 years young.

Her body had started to turn on her about the age of 22. She remembers going for a run – just a regulation training run in her days as a triathlete – and feeling pain through her right leg. She was also limping.

The crowds at the 2026 Commonwealth Games have varied in size and spirit.

Particularly at the Scottish Event Campus, not far from the city centre, casual fans will wander down and get a taste of the action if they've got time on their weekend.

It's school holiday time in Glasgow too, so plenty of families looking for a way to occupy the kids have made their way into the various arenas.

You may never get the chance to watch again, so a spot of 3×3 basketball or bowls, accompanied by some frankly excellent tunes and an overpriced carton of chips, is a decent way to spend four hours.

Commonwealth Games 2026 LIVE: Cycling medals galore, world records for Australians; Diamonds’ demolition job over Northern Ireland

It’s been another day of medal collecting for the Australian team with a haul of them – and a world record – collected in the velodrome before Jess Hull and Rose Davies went 1-2 in the women’s 5000m final.

Australia now has the same number of medals as the next two countries’ combined.

It’s not over yet. Here’s what’s coming later today and first thing tomorrow morning. While Lachie Kennedy and Torrie Lewis’s 200m finals will headline the athletics program, there’s plenty more to set your alarms for.

Felicity Wilson-Haffenden was flicking through her local newspaper in Tasmania in 2021 when she saw an advertisement for a cycling talent search.

Kylie is notoriously private. After an hour and 15 minutes, I ask the burning question

“I’m definitely getting pickier,” she says. So, what’s off the table, from a relationships point of view?

You could hear a pin drop,” Kylie Minogue says about the point, in episode two, when she starts crying about the impact her former boyfriend, INXS singer Michael Hutchence, had on her. “I’m like, I know I’m going to cry at some point in this goddamn documentary. When’s the point going to be? But I also knew that I was holding on to a lot of stuff.”

This month, Netflix released a new three-part documentary, simply titled Kylie, exploring the life and times of one of the world’s most enduring (and media-shy) pop stars; the singer behind era-defining tracks such as I Should Be So Lucky, Can’t Get You Out of My Head, Spinning Around and, more recently, Padam Padam.

Kylie Minogue on how she got past criticisms of her career

Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue says a new documentary about her generation-spanning career is finally due.

"I've actively avoided doing exactly this type of thing," Minogue, 58, told ABC News' Lama Hasan in an interview that aired Tuesday on "Nightline." "I've been asked many times to do my documentary. How do you tell the story? Have I got enough of a story to tell? Why me? But it's just kind of going, 'OK, I'm saying yes.'"

Minogue's new Netflix docuseries is simply titled "Kylie" and was directed by filmmaker Michael Harte, whose previous subjects have included David Beckham and Michael J. Fox. It traces Minogue's four decades onstage, her two cancer diagnoses and a career that has refused to slow down.

'Devastated' Cam Smith opens up on emotional split in bid to arrest major slump

After yet another chastening major championship, Cam Smith decided something had to give.

Smith left last month’s Masters completely disillusioned with his game, rounds of 74 and 77 ensuring the Australian missed his sixth major cut in a row.

Only four years ago, Smith was ranked second in the world and the reigning champion in two of the five most important titles in the game: The Players and The Open. He has now not played a weekend in one of the game’s four biggest tournaments since the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst. It’s been a jarring decline for a golfer with such natural flair and a delicious short game, but Smith has been adamant that “the fire is in the belly” and he’s been working tirelessly to try and turn things around.

Cameron Smith has opened up on the "terrible conversation" he had with his childhood coach, Grant Field, when sacking him.

Smith parted ways with Field, who has been with him since he was a junior, after struggling at the Masters.

The Australian is now working with Claude Harmon III ahead of the PGA Championship.

Cam Smith has explained the "terrible conversation" he felt was necessary to arrest his golfing slide ahead of the PGA Championship.

The former world number two and British Open winner was the only man to miss all four cuts in the majors last season and has failed to reach the weekend in his past six, including last month's Masters.

Smith’s post-LIV career is at a crossroads. Here’s why his devastating split had to happen

Cameron Smith’s career is at a crossroads and the Australian has made the cruellest cut of his career in a bid to punch his way out of it.

Arriving at this week’s PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania, Smith has missed six cuts in a row in major championships and realised a drastic change was needed. To save his career, he has axed the mate who helped build it.

As fire raced up seven high-rise towers in Hong Kong's Tai Po district, resident Ng was in a state of disbelief.

Her husband called her to say the buildings were on fire, but since the fire alarm had not gone off, she was unsure.

For curiosity's sake, she decided to go to the ground floor and look for herself.

She witnessed an inferno as fire quickly spread from one building to another.

"I came down and didn't bring anything, just wearing this outfit," she told the ABC.

Hong Kong investigators are piecing together how the city’s worst fire in decades rapidly raged through seven high-rise buildings on Wednesday, leaving at least 94 people dead, dozens injured and scores missing.

As fires smouldered in several apartment blocks at the Wang Fuk Court housing complex on Friday, firefighters continued searching for residents unaccounted for. Extreme heat was hampering rescue efforts, officials said.

Rescue operations inside the Hong Kong apartment complex that was engulfed by fire on Wednesday are “almost complete”, fire officials have said, as the death toll reached 94 early on Friday with scores more missing.

Firefighters were combing though through the high-rises on Friday, attempting to find anyone alive after the massive fire that spread to seven of eight towers, in one of the city’s deadliest ever blazes.

Throughout the morning more families arrived at the Kwong Fuk Estate community centre, adjacent to Wang Fuk Court, to identify the bodies being pulled from the gutted buildings. Few names of the dead have been released to the public yet.
