ALL AUSTRALIAN SQUAD: Dockers dominate, surprise omissions, Gawn eyes record

MINOR premier Fremantle has dominated the AFL All Australian squad announced on Monday with a whopping eight players named.

The Dockers have been rewarded for their 19-win home-and-away season with a competition-leading representation in the 46-strong squad that also has six players selected from Brisbane and five from Hawthorn.

But, like usual, there will be some unhappy supporter bases after North Melbourne young gun Harry Sheezel was overlooked, along with West Coast’s former No.1 draft pick Harley Reid. Collingwood defender Billy Frampton also missed the 46 despite a strong campaign, while Carlton midfielder Sam Walsh and Sydney defender Tom McCartin could also consider themselves unlucky.

REVEALED: 21 debuts as All-Australian squad named… and there are some shocks

The 2026 All-Australian 46-man squad has been revealed. See the full squad below.

The full list of club representation is – Adelaide Crows (three), Brisbane Lions (six), Carlton (one), Collingwood (two), Fremantle (eight), Geelong Cats (four), Gold Coast SUNS (two), GWS GIANTS (two), Hawthorn (five), Melbourne (two), North Melbourne (one), Port Adelaide (four), St Kilda (two), Sydney Swans (two), Western Bulldogs (two). Essendon, Richmond and the West Coast Eagles do not have a representative named.

The AFL Awards will be hosted by Fox Footy’s Sarah Jones, three-time All Australian Jack Riewoldt and two-time All Australian Jonathan Brown, and will broadcast live from 7:30pm on Fox Footy, available on Kayo SPORTS. | New to Kayo? Join now and get your first month for just $1.

LIVE: Dockers host Swans in top-two blockbuster from 8.10pm AEST

Don't miss a second of the action from Thursday night's blockbuster clash between the Dockers and Swans

AN END of season blockbuster arrives early with a top-two clash between pacesetter Fremantle and Sydney opening round 18 on Thursday night.

Fremantle will hope it was the loss it had to have as a club record 14-match winning streak was snapped by Greater Western Sydney.

The Dockers conceded their second highest score for the season – and biggest since their defeat to the Cats – as they were smashed 42-28 in clearances and 62-47 for inside 50s, and now have had a five-day break before the top-of-the-ladder clash with the Swans.

AFL 2026 LIVE updates: Leaders Fremantle take on second-placed Swans in Perth

Tom Papley kicks his second goal and it’s thanks to a beautiful assist from Errol Gulden. The Swans are managing Papley’s minutes carefully but when he’s on, he’s emptying the tank.

Fremantle are still goalless, with ten behinds. Incredible stuff. A case of the yips has broken out at Optus Stadium. This won’t last.

It’s almost comical as Murphy Reid takes his shot and the ball just goes badly wide from a relatively straight forward shot.

The issue is the Swans have still not pulled away and Fremantle will come back, they have no choice.

AS IT eyes a top-10 finish this season, North Melbourne gets a chance to claim its eighth win of the season when it meets Essendon on Sunday.

North Melbourne (7-7) has won seven matches for the first time since 2019 and climbed back into the top 10 while still having plenty of room for improvement after a pair of less-than-convincing victories.

The Roos did what they needed to do in a low-scoring affair with the Tigers and can now pile more misery on the Bombers after snapping a 12-game losing streak against their rivals earlier this year.

Essendon (1-13) has been left searching for positives to carry it through to the end of the year off the back of a nine-game losing streak before heading into a bye.

Our most recent group saw Isaac Kako, Jayden Nguyen and VFLW player Tayla Hart-Aluni spend the week there with a focus on cultural connection, community engagement and education. They were lucky enough to watch the Tiwi Bombers take the field in a local match too. Here's what they got up to over the five days:

‘Perfect’ reason Roos should be excited in six-year first; familiar Bombers flaw — 3-2-1

North Melbourne has shifted back into the top 10, trumping Essendon 10.19 (79) to 9.11 (65) on Sunday afternoon at Docklands to claim its third-straight win.

It marks the first time in six years that the Roos have won three or more consecutive games, with the result lifting them to ninth on the ladder.

Dockers extend winning record with total eclipse of the Suns

Fremantle's 14th straight win delivered Gold Coast's fifth consecutive loss, raising the heat on Damien Hardwick's side

FREMANTLE has sent Gold Coast's season into a tailspin 10 months on from the classic elimination final between the clubs, crushing the Suns by 51 points at Optus Stadium on Sunday and extending its own formidable winning run.

The Dockers controlled the game from start to finish in their 14th straight win, using frenetic pressure, organised defence, and a slick handball game to win 11.14 (80) to 3.11 (29) and open a two-game break at the top of the ladder.

In their first clash against the Suns since their heartbreaking finals exit last year, they highlighted the growing gap between the two teams this season, holding Damien Hardwick's men to their lowest ever score against Freo and their equal fourth lowest on record.

Justin Longmuir insists his team has nothing to prove with a crunch match against Hawthorn coming up next

FREMANTLE coach Justin Longmuir says the Dockers don't have anything to prove to anyone as they enter Thursday night's blockbuster against Hawthorn with their first opportunity to take a top-four scalp.

The Dockers are riding a seven-game winning streak in their best run of form under Longmuir, with rival coach Sam Mitchell labelling them "probably the form team of the competition" on Tuesday.

Thursday's primetime clash is the Dockers' first opportunity against one of the current top four teams, having beaten 2025 finalists Adelaide and Collingwood in their 7-1 start to the season.

GEELONG hosts Fremantle at GMHBA Stadium in the second game of the afternoon.

The Cats entered the season under a cloud with Patrick Dangerfield and Jeremy Cameron sidelined, but their worst fears were quickly realised when they were blown away by Gold Coast inside a half.

Geelong is as aware as any club that the season is a long haul but it will be out to avoid beginning their campaign with a 0-2 start for just the third time in more than two decades.

Fremantle is widely tipped to be on the rise after a slow and steady list build that now has it boasting top-tier talent across all lines, even while it is still to prove its credentials with only one finals win in the past decade.

FOLLOW LIVE: Dockers open season against Cats

Fremantle got off to a false start last year against Geelong. Can they find some redemption and lay down an early marker to show they are serious contenders this year?

Judd McVee will make his club debut, while the Cats have called on some big reinforcements in Patrick Dangerfield and Jeremy Cameron after their Opening Round flop.

The Coleman medallist gets his first look as the Cats work the ball up the far boundary, and Bailey Smith’s floating kick finds Cameron as he converts from 35m.

But this is all on Caleb Serong as he brilliantly keeps the ball alive in the pocket as he finds space where there shouldn’t be any.

Chris Scott | Round 1 Press Conference Takeaways

Cats coach Chris Scott fronted the media on Friday ahead of the Geelong's clash with Fremantle at GMHBA Stadium

I wouldn't describe it as ugly, I would describe it as productive.

There are some learnings to come out of it, but I think we move forward pretty quickly.

We are focused on what our game looks like at its best, it wasn't in that game but we are optimistic that it can be in this one.

Senior Coach Chris Scott addressed the media in the lead up to our Round 1 clash with Fremantle. Proudly Presented by Morris.

He has had a great pre-season and he is the type of player, the type of ruckman in particular, that we haven't really played for a while.
