    ‘Can never say we’re done’: WiseTech signals more AI job losses are coming

    WiseTech Global will cut more jobs as artificial intelligence takes over more of its work, chief executive Zubin Appoo has flagged, and he says the cuts will not stop when the current program ends.

    “We can never say that we’re done,” Appoo said on Wednesday, hours after the embattled logistics software company posted an 11 per cent fall in annual profit and its shares dropped more than 7 per cent.

    About 1200 of the 2000 roles announced in February have gone. Appoo said most of the rest would come from exiting large parts of the professional services arm of e2open, the US company WiseTech bought last year for $US3.2 billion, and shifting that work to partner firms.

    Local tech company defends AI job cuts as revenue soars

    An Australian technology company has stood behind cutting 1700 jobs in favour of artificial intelligence, as it raked in record annual revenue.

    Logistics software provider WiseTech Global's total income surged 79 per cent to $US1.4 billion ($A19.5 billion) in the year to June 30, supported by its buyout of Texas-headquartered supply chain player e2open.

    The acquisition helped deliver $64 million in annualised operating profit savings, while its artificial intelligence transformation had cut $34 million from the balance sheet, chief executive Zubin Appoo said.

    RBA done raising rates as housing faces tax ‘headwinds’, banks

    Bank economists are tipping interest rate rises are over and the next move will be down, as a former Reserve Bank of Australia deputy governor warns the housing market faces headwinds from the government’s tax changes.

    HSBC on Friday joined ANZ and National Australia Bank in predicting the RBA would not move beyond its three interest rate rises this year and would be on a long hold before cutting rates next year.

    Top economists at ANZ, Commonwealth Bank and NAB are now predicting interest rates will not rise any higher this year and will start to fall from the middle of next year.

    ANZ today changed its rate call to predict two cash rate cuts in 2027. It had previously expected rates to remain steady for the foreseeable future.

    HSBC’s Paul Bloxham also has now changed and expects no change until cuts in late 2027. Bloxham said:

    double quotation markInflation is still too high and is set to rise further before it falls. That being said, the RBA has already taken significant action to deal with this surge in inflation – and, critically, the action is working …
    We expect the RBA to be on hold in June. Although there is some risk the RBA might choose to hike again beyond that, we expect the weakening in growth to convince them to be on hold.

    Zak Butters trade update: Victorian club’s frank response to chances

    Melbourne coach Steven King said he'd love to welcome Port Adelaide free agent Zak Butters to the club, but has indicated that his decision may already been determined.

    Butters is being sought after by the Western Bulldogs, while Geelong, Hawthorn and Collingwood have interest in securing his services.

    It is largely believed that if the Power can't get the star on-baller to sign on the dotted line, the Bulldogs are set to bolster their midfield stocks.

    "We'd be like every club that would love him, but from what you hear, it's down to a couple and we might not be part of that discussion," King said on SEN.

    Melbourne coach Steven King has effectively ruled the Demons out of the race for Zak Butters, saying the Port Adelaide free agent’s decision has “played out a year or so in advance already”.

    Victorian-born Power superstar Butters is the hottest property in the AFL ahead of October’s trade and free agency period, with a growing expectation that he will seek a move home.

    The 25-year-old grew up a die-hard Western Bulldogs supporter and many around the industry expect him to head to the Kennel, but Geelong, Hawthorn and Melbourne have all shown interest.

    Butters has said repeatedly that he won’t make a decision until later in the year, but as that time edges closer, the picture appears to be getting clearer.

He didn’t “pull a Thelma and Louise” as Dr Abbot (Shawn Hatosy) cautions, careening off the cliff where they used to take buffalo to die. In fact, he didn’t even leave the hospital.

    The final moments of the series see him cradling (now internet-famous) Baby Jane Doe in the same room as his season one breakdown, telling her – and himself – that everything is “gonna be OK”. “You got so many wonderful things to see and so many people to love ahead of you. So many wonderful things to see. People to love ahead of you.”
