If there is one NRL team crying out for a reset this week, it’s the winless Dragons.

As the only side yet to register a competition point – and the team most under the blowtorch heading into round five – the irony was palpable as St George Illawarra completed their first field session on Wednesday morning at the Bruce Gordon Centre in Wollongong, having moved into their new $65 million high-performance facility the previous day.

But the wounded playing group knows that despite “unbelievable” new headquarters – complete with pools, an enormous sauna and an impressive gym – it won’t help them bank two competition points against the Cowboys at Kogarah on Saturday.

Inside Dragons’ recruitment horror under Flanno… with hero on the brink and young gun held back

Dead last at the bottom of the ladder heading into Round 5, pressure continues to mount on the St George Illawarra Dragons as questions grow louder around their recruitment over the past few seasons.

While the club has brought in experienced names such as Clint Gutherson, Damien Cook and Valentine Holmes, the overall balance of the squad remains a concern.

And while these players add leadership and were standout performers in the NRL in the past, they are now past their prime and lack the speed, athleticism or skill they once had that saw them play in the State of Origin arena.

'Haven't come up with much': Blowtorch turns to senior Dragons stars Damien Cook, Clint Gutherson

Andrew Johns is intrigued to find out how Dragons recruit Daniel Atkinson plays alongside rising star Lyhkan King-Togia after an ugly injury to Kyle Flanagan finally forced the coach into a halves change.

And fellow NRL legend Brad Fittler believes Dragons coach Shane Flanagan needs to make more changes to his side after a winless start to the season.

Flanagan's men currently sit last and play the Cowboys this weekend with plenty on the line.

LIVE NRL: Eels veteran left out as Dragons welcome back star ahead of Sunday showdown

Sheffield United 1-2 Wrexham: Red Dragons earn comeback win over Blades

Sheffield United hosted Wrexham in a league fixture for the first time since October 1982

Wrexham came from behind to earn a crucial victory over Sheffield United to maintain their push for a top six spot in the Championship.

Having been wasteful in the first-half, the Blades went in front shortly after the restart as Andre Brooks lashed into the net from close range.

But former Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass levelled five minutes later with his 11th goal of the campaign across all competitions.

And Sam Smith headed home the winner 12 minutes from time to ensure Phil Parkinson's men – who remain seventh – stay level on points with sixth-place Southampton.

Preview: Sheffield United vs Wrexham – prediction, team news, lineups

Aiming to bounce back to winning ways and return to the top six in the Championship table, Wrexham will travel to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United on Saturday.

The visitors failed to make the most of their game in hand on Tuesday, falling to a defeat to stay outside of the playoff spots on goal difference, while their hosts sit 15th after an away draw last weekend.

Sheffield United head back into action on Saturday aiming to end a three-game winless run in the Championship and break back into the top half.

After 38 games of the season, the Blades find themselves 15th with 50 points on the board having managed 15 victories alongside 18 defeats, after only falling short of a return to the Premier League last time around in the playoff final with their gap to the top six now standing at 10 points.

Wrexham have assembled a 'really good team' – Wilder

Chris Wilder says Phil Parkinson has assembled a "really good team" as his Sheffield United side prepare to face Wrexham this weekend.

The Blades currently sit 15th in the Championship, 10 points adrift of the seventh-placed Red Dragons who are only out of the play-off places on goal difference.

Before the meeting of the sides at Bramall Lane on Saturday (15:00 GMT), Wilder was keen to praise his former Southampton academy team-mate Parkinson for the job he has done since taking charge of Wrexham in 2021.

"No matter what goes on at Wrexham, and there's a lot of noise in terms of the progression of the football club and the story that goes behind everything, but they've still got to win games of football," Wilder said in a press conference.
