Making Life On Earth: Attenborough’s Greatest Adventure | Preview (BBC One)

In 1976, production began on David Attenborough's Life on Earth. No-one had ever attempted a natural history series on this scale before. This is the remarkable story behind one of the BBC’s most famous wildlife blockbusters. A three-year, hair-raising odyssey around the world, travelling to 40 countries, across a million miles, and filming over 600 species.

Making Life on Earth: Attenborough’s Greatest Adventure goes behind-the-scenes on this ground-breaking landmark series, featuring exclusive interviews with David Attenborough and other members of the original crew.

With fascinating insights, they reveal the highs and lows of filming the series during a truly exciting moment in television history, when global jet travel and colour filming were still in their infancy. Along the way, the crew encountered multiple challenges, including a coup in the Comoros, being shot at in Rwanda and threats from Saddam Hussein’s army in Iraq.

Choir celebrates Sir David Attenborough with song

A climate choir and conservation art group gathered on Plymouth Hoe to film a video ahead of Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday.

Members of the Plymouth Climate Choir sang a song called Natural World earlier with the hope it will be included in a worldwide chorus set to be released ahead of the broadcaster's birthday on 8 May.

Versions of the song have been filmed all over the world, supported by musicians Pete Townshend and Brian Eno.

Rebel Botanists, a Plymouth-based environmental conservation organisation, also drew a large design on Plymouth Hoe in chalk to celebrate Sir David's work.

Founder of the organisation Elizabeth Richmond designed the artwork and said Attenborough meant "everything" to her.

Artemis II astronauts prepare to leave Earth’s orbit and head towards the moon

Nasa mission enters second day, with crew hoping to become first people to orbit moon in more than 50 years

Nasa has given the four Artemis astronauts circling Earth the green light to head for the moon and carry out the first crewed lunar flyby in more than 50 years.

Nasa flight director Jeff Radigan told the astronauts the mission management team had approved firing up the engine of their Orion capsule to send the spacecraft on a trajectory towards the moon.

The 5min 49sec burn is scheduled to take place just before 1am BST and send the astronauts out of Earth orbit to begin the three-day voyage toward the moon, the first since 1972.

Sit back and let us take you on a journey to the Moon with Artemis II

On launch pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, billions of dollars' worth of rocket sits on the tarmac, ready to take off.

More than 50 years after our last visit, this is humankind's next moonshot. If all goes well for NASA's Artemis II mission, the astronauts on board could fly the furthest that humans have ever gone.

So how does the next generation's journey to the Moon compare to other famous space flights, and what should we be looking out for?

In the hours leading up to the launch, four astronauts are strapped into the crew module of the Orion spacecraft. You can think of this as the heart.
