A classic winter cold front will surge across southeastern Australia this weekend, with widespread showers and strong winds throughout the weekend, while snowfalls will commence in the alpine region later on Saturday.

The engine of this system is a strong low pressure system centred over the Southern Ocean, closer to Antarctica than Australia. Winds circulating clockwise around this vast system will push moisture and cold air all the way to Tasmania and the southeastern mainland.

3 things to watch in Pistons-Magic Game 5

Urgency marks Game 5 in the series as the Magic are one win from the semis, while the Pistons hope to simply stay alive.

Detroit’s interior play has been better in this series when Isaiah Stewart plays more minutes.

Orlando finds itself with a rare opportunity heading into Game 5 of its series against Detroit on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET, Prime Video).

Twice previously in NBA playoff history (since the first round went to best-of-seven in 2003), a lower-seeded opponent led 3-1 against a team that won 60 games or more in the regular season. Both of them – the Golden State Warriors vs. Dallas Mavericks in 2007 and the Memphis Grizzlies vs. San Antonio Spurs in 2011 – won those series in six games.

Where to watch Orlando Magic vs Detroit Pistons Playoffs: TV channel, start time, streaming for April 29

The 2026 NBA postseason is heating up as the first round reaches its elimination games. A number of teams have already taken a 3-1 series lead, including the Boston Celtics over the Philadelphia 76ers, the San Antonio Spurs over the Portland Trail Blazers, the Orlando Magic over the Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Lakers over the Houston Rockets.

The Orlando Magic defeated the Detroit Pistons 94-88 to take a 3-1 series lead and move one win away from becoming the seventh No. 8 seed in NBA history to beat a No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

Orlando rode a balanced scoring effort from Desmond Bane (22 points), Franz Wagner (19), Paolo Banchero (18) and Wendell Carter Jr. (12) in a gritty Game 4 win that saw the Magic force 20 Detroit turnovers.

While daunting, the Pistons have been in this position before against the Magic. In 2003, Detroit was down 3-1 in its first-round series against Orlando. The Pistons stormed back to win the final three games of the series, starting with Game 5 at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Should you waterboard yourself if your team falls down 3-1 in the playoffs?

Jason McIntyre explains why he is still unsold on the Detroit Pistons as contenders despite a 3-0 record against the New York Knicks.

It has to be a rough life being a fan of Detroit sports teams lately.

The Lions are the lovable losers of the NFL, the Tigers haven't won a World Series in over 40 years and the Red Wings are in the middle of a decade-long playoff drought, having missed the big dance once again this season.

Middle East crisis live: Netanyahu says ‘no ceasefire in Lebanon’ as Israel attacks ‘Hezbollah launch sites’

Israeli prime minister’s remarks come shortly after Trump told US media he had asked Netanyahu to be more ‘low-key’

“I wish to inform you: There is no ceasefire in Lebanon,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Israelis in a short video address posted on X. He said Israel was “continuing to strike Hezbollah with full force, and we will not stop until we restore your security.”

His comments come shortly after President Trump said he had asked Netanyahu to be “more low-key” in Lebanon, as the US seeks to negotiate with Iran to bring the war to an end.

Netanyahu added that he had instructed his government to “open direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible.” The talks will focus on the disarmament of Hezbollah and the establishment of peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon, he added.

Hospitals in Beirut struggle to deal with casualties after Israeli attacks

Doctors warn of worsening crises as vital supplies run low and Israeli attacks devastate Beirut and surrounding areas.

Beirut, Lebanon – As bombs rained down on Lebanon’s capital, hundreds of people rushed to the American University of Beirut (AUB) Hospital, many crying, many scared. Children were looking for their siblings or their parents, unsure if they were dead or alive.

Israeli forces had bombed 100-plus targets across the country in 10 minutes on Wednesday, despite a ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran that many thought would include Lebanon.

“In under an hour, we received around 76 injured people. Unfortunately, six people didn’t make it,” Dr Salah Zeineldine, AUB’s chief medical officer, told Al Jazeera, as the hospital became an “epicentre” for victims of the Israeli attacks.

Post-ceasefire attacks in Lebanon spark fears war would get 'much worse'

People in Lebanon fear the war is going to get "much worse" after Israel hit the country's capital, Beirut, with a fresh wave of air strikes overnight.

Israel launched the attacks on what it said were Hezbollah targets hours after the US and Iran announced they had reached a ceasefire agreement.

Peace negotiations will begin in Pakistan at the weekend but it is unclear whether fighting will stop in Lebanon, which the US and Israel have claimed is not covered by the ceasefire.

On the streets of Beirut, a fresh sense of fear and panic has set in.

Overnight, Israel launched widespread attacks on the Lebanese capital — the most intense wave of Israeli air strikes to date in this war.

Middle East crisis live: Israeli officials push back on US claim that Trump knew nothing about gasfield attack

Three Israeli officials tell Reuters that the US actually helped coordinate Israel’s attack on Iran’s South Pars gasfield

A visual guide to the oil and gas site attacks in the Middle East

We’ve just heard from Pete Hegseth. He reiterated the claim from Donald Trump that the US president knew nothing about the attack on Iran’s South Pars gasfield.

However, Reuters is reporting that Israel says its attack on the gas facilities was coordinated with the United States.

Israel has not publicly acknowledged responsibility for the South Pars attack. On Wednesday night, Trump said in a social media post that Washington “knew nothing about this particular attack” and that Israel would not attack the gas field further unless Iran again attacked Qatar.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth says the United States' objectives in the war against ‌Iran have not changed since strikes started on February ‌28.

The United States has carried out strikes against 7000 targets inside Iran and hit more than 40 Iranian mine-laying vessels and 11 submarines, ‌according to the Pentagon.

"Our ‌objectives, given directly from our America-first president, remain exactly what they were on day one," Hegseth told reporters.

Middle East crisis live: Iran issues statement ‘from Mojtaba Khamenei’ as its attacks disrupt energy markets

Message read out by newsreader calls for national unity and says that all US bases in the region should close or face attacks

How have you been affected by the latest Middle East events?

In his first public remarks as Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei apparently called for national unity and said that all US bases in the region should close or face attacks.

The strait of Hormuz will remain closed in order to pressure Iran’s enemies, Khamenei reportedly said. He was not seen in the broadcast and the statement was delivered by a newsreader.

Iran wants good relations with its neighbouring countries, Khamenei’s statement said, and asked them to close down their US bases as that is what Iran is targeting.

Oil tankers burn as Iran's new leader vows to keep Strait of Hormuz closed

Two tankers were set ablaze in Iraqi waters in what appears to be an escalation of Iranian attacks on Gulf shipping, killing at least one crew member.

The strikes have disrupted global energy supplies, despite the largest-ever coordinated release of strategic reserves.

Iran's new supreme leader Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has said the Strait of Hormuz should remain closed as a tool of pressure.

Two tankers have been set ablaze in Iraqi waters an apparent escalation in Iranian attacks that have cut off Middle East energy supplies, defying President Donald Trump's claim to have already won the war he launched two weeks ago.
