2023 Norm Smith medallist agrees to deal to leave Collingwood, despite having four years to go on his contract

COLLINGWOOD and Bobby Hill have agreed on a deal that will see the 2023 Norm Smith medallist depart the Magpies.

The Magpies have been in recent discussions with Hill's management about an exit, with AFL.com.au understanding the deal is agreed on his departure.

The formalising of the exit is expected soon in coming days and Hill will depart as a delisted player, meaning he will qualify as a delisted free agent. He is keen to play on at a third club, having started his career at Greater Western Sydney.

Collingwood comes to agreement with Bobby Hill

Collingwood and Norm Smith medallist Bobby Hill have come to an agreement, allowing the troubled forward to leave the club.

As reported by AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey, the two parties have parted ways, with the exit expected to be formalised in the coming days.

Hill has featured in Collingwood's VFL setup three times this season, having failed to return to AFL football since Round 21, 2025.

The agreement in place will see Hill depart as a delisted free agent, cutting short his remaining four year, $750,000 per year contract with the Pies.

Twomey has reported that the small forward and 2023 flag hero is keen to play on at a third club, having joined the Pies from GWS ahead of their premiership season.

Sidebottom set to exit, one of Pendlebury and Howe makes sense

Soon, before the season’s close, Collingwood are expected to announce that their two-time premiership great Steele Sidebottom will retire.

For several weeks, the signs have pointed to Sidebottom finishing at Collingwood this year. After a stellar first half of 2025, when he was close to All-Australian standard, there has been a gradual ebbing of performances on the field for the distinguished 35-year-old.

Sidebottom is said to be comfortable with the prospect of finishing his career, which will fall shy of the 400-game mark (370 now), according to sources familiar with his situation.

The positions of Scott Pendlebury – the AFL’s games record holder and one of Collingwood’s immortals – and the remarkable veteran aerialist Jeremy Howe are yet to settled on by the players or the Magpies as August beckons.

Collingwood champion Steele Sidebottom expected to retire at season’s end after glittering career

Collingwood champion Steele Sidebottom is expected to part ways with the Magpies at the end of the season.

The two-time premiership great has played 370 games in 18 years at the Magpies and had been in good form early this year, having come off a stellar season in 2025.

But patchy form since his 31-disposal effort against GWS in Round 3 has pointed towards a potential end of the road for the 35-year-old.

Sidebottom’s likely retirement will see him fall short of the extremely rare 400-game mark.

The classy midfielder collected 35 disposals to win last year’s Anzac Day Medal in a performance that wound the clock back, and came seventh in the club’s 2025 best and fairest.

Broncos Confirm Arthars Exit at Season's End

The Brisbane Broncos can confirm Jesse Arthars will depart the Club at the end of the 2026 NRL season, after securing an opportunity with the Catalans Dragons in the Super League.

The 27-year-old outside back made his Broncos debut in 2020 and has since scored 36 tries in 83 appearances for the Club.

Broncos General Manager of Football Operations, Troy Thomson, thanked Arthars for his commitment to the Club.

“Jesse has made a meaningful contribution to the Club since first joining us in 2020 and has become a valued member and a respected leader in our playing group,” Thomson said.

“His efforts across the 2025 season and the role he played within the squad were significant in helping us achieve success.

    Broncos centre confirms departure

Jesse Arthars has signed a two-year deal to join the Catalans Dragons from 2027.

The 27-year-old made his NRL debut in 2019 for the Titans, and since then has played for the Warriors and most notably the Broncos.

Arthars was a regular fixture in the backline for Brisbane during last year's premiership run, lacing up for 18 games whilst totalling 11 tries.

Although traditionally noted as a centre, Arthars is versatile across the backline and has slotted into wing and fullback multiple times throughout his NRL career.

Arthars has embraced the move to the Super League and is excited for what's to come.

“I'm super excited to be joining the Catalans Dragons for the next couple of seasons," Arthars said.

Will Cristiano Ronaldo do the same? Huge update on Roberto Martinez’s future as Portugal manager ahead of CR7 and Co opening World Cup quest

Roberto Martinez will step down as Portugal manager following this current World Cup campaign. As his contract expires in late July, the Spanish tactician has decided not to renew. This monumental exit leaves fans wondering if legendary forward Cristiano Ronaldo will also end his international career, as he chases the one elusive trophy missing from his cabinet.

Martinez has officially decided to leave his role as the head coach of the Portugal national team, regardless of how they perform in North America. The former Everton manager will depart when his deal expires at the end of July. This marks the conclusion of a successful tenure during which he added to Portugal's trophy cabinet. The nation, who are already one-time European champions from 2016 and two-time UEFA Nations League winners having claimed glory in 2019 and 2025, will now seek new leadership. The Portuguese FA are reportedly fully aware of the decision, allowing them to quietly begin their search for a high-profile successor.

US says Iran seeking 'exit ramp' despite mixed ceasefire signals

The White House insists talks to end the war with Iran are continuing, despite conflicting reports over Iran's response to a US ceasefire proposal.

Speaking at the White House, press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that the US was "very close" to meeting its "core objectives" and that Tehran was seeking an "exit ramp".

The comments come amid a series of conflicting reports about Iran's response to a 15-point ceasefire proposal sent by the Trump administration earlier this week to Iran via Pakistani intermediaries.

'No intention of negotiating for now,' says Iranian minister, as US insists war goals almost met

The US is "very close" to meeting its objectives in Iran, the White House says, adding that Iran's regime is looking for an "exit ramp"

But Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the country will keep "defending" itself. There is "no intention of negotiating for now," he tells state media

Araghchi says "friendly countries" may have conveyed messages between the US and Iran, but this does not amount to "dialogue" – the White House has suggested talks are ongoing

Iran earlier issued five conditions to end the war, an Iranian official told state media, including a conclusion to the conflict "across all fronts" and payment of reparations

Iran makes ceasefire demands, Trump ready to ‘unleash hell’

Washington | Iran is seeking commitments from US President Donald Trump on five demands before it agrees to end the war, as the White House insisted its peace talks to end the conflict have been productive.

Underlining the early, delicate nature of the talks and the continued sabre-rattling on both sides, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT) Iran was looking for “an exit ramp” to a war that has upended markets and supply chains around the world and wreaked havoc across the Middle East.

De Zerbi to exit Marseille after damaging defeats – sources

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

Roberto De Zerbi and Marseille have agreed to the departure of the Italian head coach by mutual consent after a series of damaging defeats, sources told ESPN.

An interim coach will be placed in charge for the league game against Strasbourg this weekend in Ligue 1.

After weeks of pressure, tensions with some players and bad results — including a 3-0 defeat at Club Brugge, which led to their exit from the Champions League, and a 5-0 thrashing by rivals Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, it was felt De Zerbi's position had become untenable.

Marseille parts ways with Roberto De Zerbi

De Zerbi's departure comes after the team's 5-0 thrashing by rival Paris St Germain in the league and its exit from the Champions League last month.

"Olympique de Marseille and Roberto De Zerbi, coach of the first team, have announced the end of their collaboration by mutual agreement," Marseille said in a statement.

"Following discussions between all stakeholders in the club's management – the owner, president, director of football, and coach – it was decided to make a change at the helm of the first team.

"This was a difficult collective decision, taken after careful consideration in the best interests of the club, in order to respond to the sporting challenges of the end of the season."

Mason Greenwood loses his mentor as Roberto De Zerbi leaves Marseille after Le Classique humiliation vs PSG

Marseille have announced that manager Roberto De Zerbi has left the club by mutual consent in the wake of Sunday's 5-0 thrashing by champions Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1. De Zerbi guided Marseille to a second-placed finish in Ligue 1 last season but leaves with his team down in fourth place in the table and already 12 points behind Luis Enrique's table-toppers.

PSG romped to victory in Le Classique at the Parc des Princes, scoring five goals without reply, in a match that ended up being De Zerbi's last in charge of Marseille. The Italian questioned the mindset of his players after the match and also said sorry to fans for their performance. He told reporters: “It's a rough patch… we put in a good performance against Rennes and Lens, and then it's total despair. Once again, I apologise to the fans.” The defeat followed on from Marseille's early exit from the Champions League that brought speculation De Zerbi had offered to quit as boss. De Zerbi did end up staying on for three more games but his time at the club is now up.
