Vincent Kompany is the 'eye of the storm' as Bayern Munich CEO says coach 'makes every player better'

Vincent Kompany has received glowing praise from Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, who says the Belgian has transformed the team both tactically and mentally. The former Manchester City captain is credited with restoring joy to Bayern’s play while improving the performances of several key players.

Kompany has established himself as a key figure at Bayern, earning strong backing from the club’s leadership for the transformation he has overseen at the Allianz Arena. The Belgian manager, now in his second season with the Bundesliga giants, has been credited with revitalising both the team’s playing style and the atmosphere within the squad. Bayern CEO Dreesen described Kompany as a stabilising force within the club, highlighting how his leadership has helped guide the team through the pressures of elite competition. According to Dreesen, the manager’s personality and authority have already earned widespread respect across European football.

New Zealand eye Super Eight spot against Canada

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

A win against Canada in their first T20I against them on Tuesday will firm up New Zealand's spot in the Super Eight. This result will also knock out Canada; South Africa have already qualified for the next round from Group D with three wins in as many games.

New Zealand have faced Canada just three times in international cricket so far – each time in ODI World Cups. Their most recent meeting coming in the 2011 edition in Mumbai. They have won all three games and are poised to make it 4-0 against Canada in World Cups, despite the absence of Lockie Ferguson. The fast bowler has returned home for the birth of his first child and is expected to link up with the side ahead of the Super Eight. In Ferguson's absence, Kyle Jamieson, who wasn't even in the main squad in the first place, is set to make his T20 World Cup bow.

T20 Titans: New Zealand's Determination and Canada’s Resilience on Display

New Zealand's all-rounder Glenn Phillips emphasized the importance of adapting to conditions following their loss to South Africa, ahead of their crucial match against Canada. Despite the setback, he remains confident in his team's potential to advance to the Super Eights in the tournament.

Phillips noted that T20 cricket is defined by small margins, and while acknowledging South Africa's prowess, he insisted that reliance on singular games for insights can be misleading. Adaptation, especially in varying conditions like those expected in Sri Lanka, will be crucial for New Zealand as they aim to demonstrate their title-contender status.

Canada's wicketkeeper-batter Shreyas Movva pointed out the team's strategic improvements, notably in bowling, as they regroup following a significant defeat against UAE. As they prepare for their forthcoming matches, Movva stressed the importance of crafting effective bowling plans to complement their strong batting performances.

The Australian Open vs. the U.S. Open: A Yank’s-Eye View

MELBOURNE — I’ve been fortunate to attend 14 U.S. Opens—and the last three as a credentialed member of the media—so I am familiar with the operations of that tournament, down to details such as the approximate time of day that the sun goes behind the Western bleachers of Court 17. Hence, I was excited to head down under this year for my first Australian Open and get a fresh tennis viewing experience.

The Australian Open has developed a reputation for being as much a festival as it is a sporting event, and the party vibe at Melbourne Park outside of the tennis courts was immediately apparent. Between lawn recliners, bean bag chairs and open grassy areas, there are nearly a dozen spaces where people comfortably congregate to watch tennis on big screens mounted outside the courts. That doesn’t even include the massive dining area or the fan entertainment zone, both of which are somewhat separated from the tennis-focused areas of the grounds.

Attending The Australian Open From The USA Is Actually Cheaper Than Traveling To Go To The U.S. Open

You might be coming in from a cold northern hemisphere day, watching the best tennis players in the world vie for the Australian Open title on TV, and start dreaming of your own escape to Melbourne. Maybe you ignore this desire, thinking of the expense of it all. However, I ran the numbers, and it’s actually less expensive to attend the AO than it is to attend the US Open in New York (at least from the West Coast of the USA.) Flights from California to NYC, for instance, are going to run in the $450 range roundtrip, while you can expect about $1200 round trip from San Francisco or Los Angeles. For the sake of this piece, however, we’re going to drill down into the other costs and suggest you save your miles for your Trans-Pacific flight to Australia next year.

'Extraordinary' Williams refuses to rule out return

Serena Williams has not played since losing to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the US Open in 2022

Serena Williams has refused to rule out returning to professional tennis after recently filing the necessary paperwork.

Williams, who won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, retired after the 2022 US Open.

In December, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed to BBC Sport that the 44-year-old was back on the list of players registered for the drug testing pool.

At the time, the American said she was "not coming back" but during an interview on the Today Show on Wednesday, Williams did not rule out stepping back on to the court.
