    AI agents fake identities, target real people in new security incident

    Anthropic’s most advanced artificial intelligence model used fake identities to deceive real people and try to plant malicious code during testing by Britain’s AI Security Institute (AISI) –– the latest example of an AI model going rogue.

    Anthropic and OpenAI models were tested with lowered security guardrails in lab environments, but, in a first, were found to engage in “social engineering” to pressure a human approver while carrying out an unsanctioned task, the government research lab said.

    “This is the first time AISI has seen deception of this severity that was targeted at a real person, unprompted, in the real world,” the institute said Tuesday. There has been no evidence of real-world harm, it added.

    HELEN TONER, FMR OPENAI BOARD MEMBER:  It's great to be here with you. 

    SARAH FERGUSON: There's been another example of an AI model found using deception to achieve a goal, tricking a human into giving it access. How serious is this?

    HELEN TONER:  We've just seen the UK AI Security Institute. So this is part of the UK government, and it's one of the best organisations in the world at testing and evaluating advanced AI systems. And they've just announced an incident report. They've shared a report that during recent testing, when they were really pushing the limits of some quite advanced models to see how good they were at cyber operations, so hacking, what they discovered, which they weren't expecting and didn't want, was that the AI in question decided that as part of fulfilling the goal it had been given, it was going to go out onto the open internet, which it had access to as part of the test. It was going to try and get some malicious code into a public software package, an open-source piece of software. And to try and make it more likely that that code would be accepted into the open-source software.

    A fake 'GTA VI' file size screenshot sent the internet into a frenzy

    I'm not sure I've ever seen an unreleased video game generate more anxiety on the internet than Grand Theft Auto VI.

    That's exactly what happened this week, as a doctored screenshot of the game's Xbox Store page featuring a laughably large file size went viral on the site formerly known as Twitter. User @TheCanadianGTR posted the image early on Christmas Eve, claiming that the game would have a storage footprint of 676.7GB on an Xbox console.

    The signs that this is fake are numerous and obvious. For starters, the official Xbox storefront page for the game doesn't list a storage size at all. This is likely due to the fact that GTA VI isn't launching for another year; it's very possible Rockstar Games doesn't even know what the file size will be yet. Beyond that, while some bigger games like recent Call of Duty releases have approached 200GB in size, absolutely nothing at this point has even come close to 600GB, which is more or less the entirety of the functional hard drive space on a base PS5 or Xbox console. GTA VI is probably going to be large, but I can guarantee that it won't be triple the size of the largest existing big-budget games.

    Rockstar debunks ongoing rumours, confirms GTA 6 launch plans

    Rockstar Games officially confirmed that GTA 6 will release as per the schedule on November 19, 2026, dismissing all the speculations that sent the gaming enthusiasts into a frenzy.

    The clarification comes after the circulation of a fake Xbox screenshot claiming the game would need an enlarged 676.7GB of storage that quickly went viral.

    The company further reaffirmed via its official channels that the final launch will occur in November 2026, and will not face any further delay.

    Consistent delays in launch sparked outrage among fans; however, the studio addressed them, saying the development requires some time to offer an exhilarating experience.

    GTA 6 has been delayed twice, as the game was initially expected to release in Fall 2025, then in May 2026, and the highly anticipated game is finally slated to launch in November 2026.
