The government has signalled it is willing to fast-track a fix to its unintended "widow tax", which is cutting off people from eligibility to negatively gear a home when their partner dies.

The Coalition has demanded an immediate fix to the loophole created by negative gearing changes in return for its support for a $37 billion savings plan for the NDIS.

The federal government is hoping to settle negotiations on its NDIS savings package so it can be passed this week.

Angus Taylor says the Coalition will only support the Albanese government’s proposed overhaul of the NDIS if it first removes the “widow tax” loophole from its changes to taxing investment properties.

The warning comes as the Albanese government hopes to land a deal with the opposition this week in order to pass the bill in the Senate after the Greens ruled out supporting changes to the scheme that are expected to boost the federal budget’s bottom line by $37.8bn over four years.

‘Ducati is very fast’ – VR46 responds to Bulega’s 850cc MotoGP pace

VR46 team manager Pablo Nieto reacts to Nicolo Bulega’s reported pace on Ducati’s 2027 MotoGP prototype.

While the current MotoGP machines were being prepared for this weekend’s British Grand Prix, next year’s 850cc prototypes completed a private test at Mugello on Thursday.

Although no lap times for the 2027 prototypes, running on Pirelli tyres, have been officially released from any of the tests, GPone.com reports that Nicolo Bulega put Ducati fastest by 1.2s from the Honda of Takaaki Nakagami.

Lorenzo Savadori’s Aprilia and Dani Pedrosa’s KTM were reportedly next on the timesheets.

Although VR46 is yet to officially confirm any of its 2027 rider line-up, runaway WorldSBK title leader Bulega is set to join Valentino Rossi’s team alongside Fermin Aldeguer, from Gresini.

Sydney Airport Fast Track: Would you pay $20 to skip the airport security line?

Although it marks the official start of going on a holiday, for many, an airport is considered a relatively stressful place.

So if there was an option to pay a small fee to help minimise some of that stress – would you be interested?

All Aussies get $20 airport perk once reserved for first and business class

Everyone plans to arrive at the airport with plenty of time to spare before a flight.

But travel has a funny way of throwing unexpected delays into the mix.

And sometimes, what was meant to be a stress-free departure quickly unravels into a mad rush.

Now, for $20, passengers can jump the queue to ensure they take off on time at Sydney Airport, a perk once reserved for business and first class passengers.

Announced this week, the new Fast Track service aims to give travellers greater "control" over their airport journey, and it can be purchased in advance.

"Fast Track is a service that gives customers priority access at the main security screening point at Sydney Airport's T1 departures," the airport states.

VFL Match report: Fast-finishing Footscray fall short against Hawks

Bulldogs leave it too late as Box Hill get the better of pre-season clash

A fast-finishing Footscray have fallen frustratingly short of Box Hill in their second practice match ahead of the 2026 VFL Season.

On a humid afternoon at Mission Whitten Oval, the Dogs would feel the sting of early missed opportunities falling two-points short of the Hawks.

It was a strong display from the Dogs AFL-listed talent of Harvey Gallagher, Laith Vandermeer and Jed Busslinger while Dan Orgill and Cooper Craig-Peters were standouts in the midfield.

A slow start from Footscray as Box Hill dominated much of the play and made the most of their opportunities in front of goal.

The Western Bulldogs have been boosted by the return of their State of Origin representatives for the final hit out before Opening Round next weekend.

Under the Mission Whitten Oval Friday night lights, the Dogs will take on Hawthorn, starting at 7.10pm.

Marcus Bontempelli, Tim English, Rory Lobb, Ed Richards and Aaron Naughton all come into the 26-man squad, with Bailey Dale (injured) and Will Lewis (ineligible) unvailable for the clash.

Michael Sellwood will pull the red, white and blue on for the first time in the unofficial clash, while Sam Davidson and Lachie Bramble also come into the line-up.
