Ugochukwu feeling confident ahead of Qualifying after going fastest in Melbourne Practice

QUALIFYING: Nael beats Ugochukwu to pole as Campos seal Melbourne 1-2

Ugo Ugochukwu says he knows what he has to do to take pole in Melbourne, with the Campos Racing driver feeling confident about his chances after a good Free Practice session.

The American driver’s 1:34.607 was the fastest time by a good margin, with Rodin Motorsport’s Brando Badoer his closest rival, 0.427s behind.

For Ugochukwu, it was a positive start to the weekend, but speaking after stepping out of a debrief with Campos, he says the aim is all about taking this form forward to Qualifying.

“I’m feeling good of course,” said Ugochukwu. “It's a good start. I was feeling really good out on track, the car was feeling good, so I think we're in quite a good place going into Qualifying.

Ugochukwu and Mini fast in F2 and F3

Ugo Ugochukwu and Gabriele Mini have led the opening practice sessions of Formula 3 and 2, respectively as the Aussies find their feet.

F3 started Friday’s action with Ugochukwu carrying on his momentum from New Zealand and being well clear of the field.

Ugochukwu was the only driver to record a 1m34s time in the one-hour session with his 1:34.607 four tenths clear of Brando Badoer and Noah Stromsted.

James Wharton in his return to Prema was the leading Aussie in 17th place, being a second off the pace.

After a strong debut season last year, Wharton hopes to take a step forward after moving from ART.

Ugochukwu leads first FIA F3 practice of 2026 in Melbourne

Ugo Ugochukwu set the pace in practice ahead of the first round of the 2026 FIA Formula 3 championship.

The Campos Racing driver was 0.427 seconds quicker than Brando Badoer, while the next five drivers were all separated by less than a tenth of a second.

Practice was brought to an end five minutes early after flames appeared from the back of Mattia Colnaghi’s car and he came to a stop on track.

The majority of the session ran relatively incident free. A few drivers suffered lock-ups and trips over the grass, including Patrick Heuzenroeder, who is deputising for the injured Ernesto Rivera in Melbourne, but all were able to continue without problems.

Maggie Gyllenhaal admits to feeling 'envy' toward brother Jake Gyllenhaal early in their careers

Maggie Gyllenhaal admits that she felt a latent jealousy toward her brother Jake Gyllenhaal early in their careers.

"I don't think I was in touch with the envy, but it was there," she said.

The Dark Knight actress directed her brother for the first time in her new film, The Bride: "It meant so much for me to interact with him."

Maggie Gyllenhaal is reflecting on her relationship with her famous brother, Jake Gyllenhaal.

The actress discussed her latent jealousy toward the Brokeback Mountain star during their early careers in a new interview.

"In general, I am very interested in envy," the Lost Daughter filmmaker said in a broader conversation about envy with The New York Times. "I think there's a reason it's a seven deadly sin. I'm interested in it in terms of watching other people's movies come out. Admiration versus envy. What creates it? I think it's usually feeling starving, like you don't have enough."

Maggie Gyllenhaal acknowledges she’s had to work through some sibling “envy”

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s about to have a new movie in theaters, as her deliberately provocative creature feature The Bride! exclamation points its way into cineplexes on March 6. That means Gyllenhaal is currently on the promotional rounds, including a pretty in-depth and interesting interview she gave to The New York Times this week in which she acknowledged, yes: She had some “envy” to process toward her brother Jake, whose career took off much faster than hers did when they both began acting as teenagers.

“When I was young and Jake was a movie star right away,” Gyllenhaal notes at one point in the interview, “I don’t think I was in touch with the envy, but it was there.” Although she denies that the pair were ever “estranged,” Gyllenhaal also says “We’ve never been as close as we are now. We’re finally, maybe in the last five years, more and more and more, even each day, really interacting, which is hard for people to do.” (That includes professionally; Jake co-stars in The Bride!, along with Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, and Gyllenhaal’s husband, Peter Sarsgaard.)

American sensation Ethan Quinn and Czech 18th seed Jakub Mensik will meet in a highly anticipated third-round encounter at the Australian Open after both players secured straight-sets victories on Thursday.

American Ethan Quinn and Czech 18th seed Jakub Mensik will clash for a place in the Australian Open fourth round after the two rising stars produced comprehensive straight-sets victories to dismiss their respective opponents on Thursday.

Ethan Quinn, a 21-year-old unseeded American making his main draw debut in Melbourne, authored the upset of the morning by dominating Hubert Hurkacz 6-2 6-3 6-2.
