    Veteran almost fails to make weight again for UFC Houston

    Update: An older version of this story reported Phil Rowe had officially missed weight. However, he was given a second attempt and successfully made weight for his fight at UFC Houston.

    The veteran welterweight came in a pound over the limit (including the one-pound allowance for non-title fights) on his first attempt at the official weigh-ins for his bout with Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani, which takes place Saturday at UFC Houston. Rowe was the last fighter to weigh in and initially registered at 172 pounds, while Lebosnoyani came in at 170.5.

    However, Rowe was allowed a second attempt and on his next try he successfully hit the mark at 170.5 pounds.

    UFC doubles fight night bonuses, adds incentive for every finish

    The UFC is doubling the amounts of its long-running fight night bonus structure, as well as awarding a bonus for every single finish inside the Octagon.

    The new bonus structure will take effect at UFC 324 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Traditionally, the UFC has awarded four $50,000 bonuses at every event — two to the card's top performers, and one to each of the athletes involved in the "fight of the night." Those fight night bonuses will now be worth $100,000. Additionally, the UFC will hand out a $25,000 bonus to every athlete who records a finish but fails to win one of the $100,000 bonuses.

    Dana White raising UFC performance bonuses to $100,000, adding finish bonus

    UFC fighters now have an increased incentive to go all out to put on exciting performances and look to secure finishes in the Octagon. UFC president and CEO Dana White has announced that, beginning with Saturday's UFC 324 card in Las Vegas, the promotion has restructured post-fight bonuses.

    Outside of special circumstances, the recent bonus structure has included $50,000 bonuses for two fighters who earn Performance of the Night, as well as $50,000 bonuses for the two fighters awarded Fight of the Night.

    UFC doubles post-fight bonuses to $100K in Paramount era, institutes finish bonuses

    In the hours after the ink had dried on UFC's seven-year, $7.7 billion broadcast deal with Paramount, UFC CEO Dana White promised that "bonuses are obviously going up" in the new era. On Saturday, ahead of the promotion's first show on its new broadcast home, fighters finally got a sense of what that'll look like.

    White told the Sports Business Journal that post-fight bonuses are set to double from $50,000 to $100,000, beginning with Saturday's UFC 324 numbered event in Las Vegas. Four of those bonuses will continue to be handed out after every event — two Performance of the Night bonuses and two Fight of the Night bonuses.

    Fiorentina's fight for survival checked as Lazio net last-gasp penalty to salvage point

    European hopefuls Lazio continued their slide away from Serie A (SA)’s top-six as they struck late against Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico to rescue a point in a 2-2 draw – a result that still extended their winless streak to four matches.

    Having picked up their first two league wins of the season in their last three matches alone, Fiorentina came into this game flying high, despite sitting second-bottom in Serie A. 

    The game was very much one-way traffic in the opening quarter, though, with Lazio showing the initiative as they looked to take an early lead. The best opportunity in that spell fell the way of Luca Pellegrini after 17 minutes, but David de Gea showed off his trademark reflexes to claw the ball away from the bottom-right corner.

    Lazio in attacking emergency after selling Castellanos to West Ham

    Maurizio Sarri will have to get creative with his attacking line-up for Lazio’s upcoming Serie A clash against Fiorentina, as the Biancocelesti have been temporarily left without an available centre-forward after selling Taty Castellanos to West Ham. 

    A full, 10-match round of Serie A fixtures is in store over the next three days, beginning with Pisa vs. Como on Tuesday afternoon and ending with Milan vs. Genoa on Thursday night. 

    Lazio are preparing to host Fiorentina at 19.45 GMT on Wednesday evening, but have been left short on options at centre-forward. 

    That is because Castellanos has been sold to West Ham in a permanent deal believed to be worth €29m, Tijjani Noslin is suspended after being sent off during Lazio’s 2-0 loss against Napoli over the weekend, while Boulaye Dia is currently away for the Africa Cup of Nations.

    Lazio 2-2 Fiorentina: Pedro’s Injury-Time Salvages a Point for Striker-Less Aquile

    At the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Lazio and Fiorentina shared the spoils following a dramatic and controversial finale.

    With Taty Castellanos off to West Ham, Boulaye Dia participating in the AFCON and Tijjani Noslin suspended, Maurizio Sarri picked Matteo Cancellieri as a makeshift striker to lead the line, flanked by Gustav Isaksen and Mattia Zaccagni. In midfield, Matteo Guendouzi made his final home appearance for Lazio ahead of his expected move to Fenerbahce, joined by Danilo Cataldi and Toma Basic.

    Fiorentina boss Paolo Vanoli also opted for a 4-3-3 system, Roberto Piccoli was once again favored over Moise Kean, supported by Albert Gudmundsson and Fabiano Parisi. In midfield, Nicolo Fagioli acted as a deep-lying playmaker, in between Rolando Mandragora and Che Ndour.

    The West Coast Eagles are investigating after forward Tyler Brockman was involved in a violent street brawl that left a person in hospital with a broken jaw.

    The ugly scrap erupted on Saturday night in Geraldton, 400km north of Perth.

    A shirtless Brockman, 23, charged towards a man before allegedly throwing a punch, knocking him onto the pavement.

    Brockman then appeared to bolt towards another person, who was left clutching their head on the floor.

    Both fighters had vowed to knock each other out and the script, reminiscent of the bogus one circulated before Paul's fight with Tommy Fury last year, outlined each round up to the fifth when Paul would supposedly stop a fatigued Tyson and ultimately have his hand raised.

    Jake Paul faced backlash over his glove selection for his bout with Mike Tyson last year – but he still failed to secure a knockout against the boxing icon.

    Paul won against Tyson by decision, though the then 58-year-old Tyson only managed to connect with 18 punches versus Paul's 78. The one-sided boxing contest drew sharp criticism, with former WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew leading the charge.

    Taking to social media, Bellew, a vocal critic of Paul, vented: "The gloves Mike has on are looking heavily padded while Jake has on Grants, which are full on puncher's gloves. There is a huge difference in them gloves, and I'm only watching from a bed."

    Fake Jake Paul fight script went viral before real Netflix boxing match

    A bogus script outlining the blow-by-blow action of Mike Tyson's clash with Jake Paul circulated across social media platforms just hours before their highly anticipated matchup last year.

    The legendary Tyson, who's set to celebrate his 60th birthday this coming June, squared off against the YouTube sensation Paul in a divisive heavyweight encounter at AT&T Stadium in Texas last November.

    Though initially pegged as the long shot, Tyson's betting odds took a dramatic swing during fight week, especially after the former champion delivered a stunning slap to Paul during their pre-fight staredown.

    Both combatants had vowed to deliver knockout blows, and the fabricated script mapped out every round leading up to the fifth, where Paul was allegedly set to halt a fatigued Tyson and claim victory.
