    Firefighters tackle blaze at Geelong oil refinery 'not yet under control'

    A fire has broken out at one of Australia's two remaining oil refineries, with emergency services responding to reports of "explosions and flames".

    The blaze was not yet under control as of early Thursday morning, according to Fire Rescue Victoria.

    A "significant" fire has broken out at one of Australia's two currently operational oil refineries, with residents in parts of Geelong told to stay indoors due to smoke.

    A watch and act has since been issued for a number of suburbs in Geelong, with residents being warned to close windows to keep out hazardous smoke.

    Fire Perth: Firefighters battling to contain bushfire near petrol station in Lexia, Perth’s east

    Firefighters are battling to get the upper hand on an out of control bushfire which has broken out close to a service station in Perth’s east, with a thick plume of smoke seen from tens of kilometres away.

    Emergency services received a call to triple-0 reporting the blaze on Robinson Road and Trainor Road in Lexia, just before lunchtime on Wednesday.

    A bushfire Watch and Act alert has been issued with four fire crews and water bombing aircraft on scene.

    A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the fire had grown to about 200 metres wide by the time crews arrived on scene and was continuing to burn in the Gnangara Pine Plantation.

    Hundreds of firefighters battle uncontrolled bushfire south of Adelaide

    The Tooperang fire near Mount Compass south of Adelaide has ripped through more than 600 hectares.

    The CFS says the fire remains uncontrolled, and is being battled by hundreds of firefighters.

    It says the full extent of property damage will become apparent throughout the day, but there are reports of at least one structure being impacted.

    Hundreds of firefighters have been battling a scrub fire burning near Mount Compass south of Adelaide, which remains uncontrolled and is believed to have impacted structures.

    The Tooperang fire broke out about 4:30pm on Sunday and has so far blackened about 650 hectares of grass and scrub, the Country Fire Service (CFS) says.

    Firefighters Give Water to Thirsty Kangaroo Joeys Hiding Under Burnt Tree

    Firefighters came to the aid of a group of thirsty kangaroo joeys in bushfire-ravaged Boddington, Western Australia, recently shared video shows.

    Footage released by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) shows members of the Rockingham Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Wanneroo Central Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade give water to joeys they found hiding under a burnt tree.

    “After a drink of water and a quick check, the roos safely hopped on their way,” DFES said.

    Boddington residents were forced to evacuate their homes on Christmas Day after a fire burned more than 4,000 hectare of land, reports said.

    Western Australian firefighters find two joeys hiding beneath burnt out tree after bushfire

    Firefighters in Western Australia have made an incredible find beneath a burnt out tree after fires tore through parts of the states south west.

    Volunteer fire fighters from Rockingham and Wanneroo Bush Fire Brigades were patrolling and mopping up areas around Boddington after destructive bushfires swept through earlier this week.

    Coming across a burnt out tree, the fire fighters were shocked to find two young joeys hiding underneath.

    “It’s moments like this that quietly stay with you long after the fire is out,” the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA said.

    The volunteers gave the young kangaroos water from a bottle before they were given a quick check over by the crew for any burns.

    WATCH: Firefighters give water to thirsty joeys at WA fire

    Video has captured the sweet moment a group of firefighters found a pair of joeys sheltering underneath a burnt tree at the Boddington bushfire.

    According to DFES, crews from the Wanneroo and Rockingham volunteer fire brigades found the joeys crouched underneath the fallen tree while patrolling the fire at Boddington which burnt 4149ha of bushland earlier this week.

    The video shows a firefighter approaching the joeys and offering them a drink of water from a bottle, which the thirsty joeys were all too happy to accept.

    “After a drink of water and a quick check, the roos safely hopped on their way,” the caption said.
