Murray Taulagi's Sydney Roosters move is off with the Queensland State of Origin winger instead poised to make a code switch to French rugby.

Taulagi had widely been expected to join the Roosters next year after it became apparent he would not remain at North Queensland in 2027.

However it's understood a medical with the Roosters was pushed back through Origin, and AAP has been told the 27-year-old will instead act on overseas interest.

Cowboys star set to snub Roosters, link up with rival code

North Queensland Cowboys and Queensland Maroons State of Origin winger Murray Taulagi is set to link up with rugby union in the South of France.

The winger is off-contract at the end of this year and had an offer on the table from North Queensland, but it was withdrawn after the process dragged out.

Taulagi was then set to join the Sydney Roosters, with the club making an offer to add to their backline depth.

He has now made the decision to pursue the rival code, according to reports revealed by News Corp.

The Roosters have lost several outside backs in recent years, with the club losing Joseph Manu, Joseph Suaalii and Mark Nawaqanitawase (at the end of this year) to rugby union.

Cowboys star Murray Taulagi set to quit NRL in shock switch

North Queensland Cowboys outside back Murray Taulagi is set to leave the NRL at the end of the season, with the Queensland representative understood to have agreed to a lucrative move to French rugby according to CODE Sports.

Taulagi is expected to join a Top 14 club on a multi-year contract, with the deal potentially running for three seasons as he begins the next chapter of his career.

The 27-year-old had previously been in discussions with the Sydney Roosters after deciding against extending his stay in North Queensland, but has instead opted to make the switch to rugby union.

Taulagi has long had a strong connection to rugby union, having been a standout schoolboy player in the 15-man code before ultimately being recruited by the Cowboys.

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva fulfils destiny, winning first grand slam title in Paris

One fairytale ended, but another special story might be just getting started.

Mirra Andreeva is the new queen of Roland-Garros’ clay, transforming a compelling opening to the women’s final into a 6-3, 6-2 stampede that prevented Pole Maja Chwalinska from becoming the tournament’s first winner from qualifying.

At 19, Andreeva is the youngest women’s champion in Paris since an 18-year-old Monica Seles claimed her third consecutive title on the red dirt in 1992. She will vault into the top five in the rankings.

It is the Russian prodigy’s first grand slam title – in her maiden final – but almost certainly not the last for a player long tipped to be a future champion.

French Open 2026: Kostyuk shocks Swiatek; Jodar beats Carreño Busta in five sets – as it happened

Marta Kostyuk dismissed four-time champion Iga Swiatek, while there were also wins for Rafael Jodar, Elina Svitolina and Alexander Zverev

Righto, that’s it from us for today. Thanks all for your company, and see you again tomorrow for the top half of the fourth round, but until then, peace out.

We’re now at 3-3 on Lenglen, Andreeva – Teichmann a really decent contest so far. I don’t think the Swiss quite has the game to win, but I thought that of her Muchova matchup, and here we are.

Zverev admits that De Jong started well, saying it was difficult to begin with, but once he found his rhythm he felt very comfortable, which is the most important thing for him: he feels that his game is there, and it’s about showing it on the match courts.

Teenager Rafael Jódar comes from two sets down to set up Zverev quarter-final

    19-year-old beats Pablo Carreño Busta 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2

This year’s French Open has been defined in many ways by the weather, an unprecedented week of searing heat wreaking havoc on and off the court. That trend came to an end in an instant on Sunday morning as the cool, damp conditions took over in Paris.
Rain or shine, the rise of Rafael Jódar endures. The 19-year-old took another major step forward in his young career as he put together a monumental comeback, recovering from two sets down for the first time in his career to defeat his veteran Spanish compatriot Pablo Carreño Busta 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 and reach the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

French Open Day 7 Predictions Including Frances Tiafoe vs Jaime Faria

Day 7 at the French Open will see the final eight third-round men’s matches. After Saturday, the Round of 16 lineup will be set in Paris. As always, our writers here at LWOT share their thoughts on all of the matches. We split the matches between two articles–with the other article featuring Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Brandon Nakashima. Predicting these matches are Ateet Shrivastava, Harsh Bhoot, and Yesh Ginsburg. Who do you think will advance?

    Ateet:
Francisco Comesana defeated Luciano Darderi in five sets, which lasted over four hours. There were multiple momentum swings in that match, but Comesana had the last one in his favour. He will face another Italian, Matteo Berrettini, who played one of his best matches in a while to defeat Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets. If Berrettini can stay healthy, he has a genuine shot at reaching the later stages here.
    Prediction: Berrettini in 4

Francis Tiafoe faces Faria in French Open third round at Roland Garros, seeking quarterfinal berth

Francis Tiafoe, the No. 22 seed, faces qualifier Jaime Faria in a pivotal French Open third-round matchup on May 30, 2026 at Court Suzanne Lenglen in Paris. The American advanced past Hubert Hurkacz in a grueling five-set thriller 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 two days ago, showcasing the consistency that could carry him deeper into the tournament. For Tiafoe, a quarterfinal berth represents a critical milestone—he has never advanced beyond the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, despite reaching that stage last year.

Tiafoe‘s second-round win over Hurkacz displayed the mental toughness required on Roland Garros clay. The 28-year-old American saved break points and powered through two tiebreaks, forcing decisive moments in the fifth set. His ability to convert on break opportunities and minimize unforced errors has improved markedly in 2026. With 21 wins across 31 matches this season, Tiafoe has established himself as one of the more consistent players on hard and clay courts alike—though clay remains his most challenging surface historically.

Frances Tiafoe vs. Jaime Faria prediction: French Open odds, picks, best bets

With Jannik Sinner out of the picture, any of the remaining competitors can claim they have a legitimate chance of winning the French Open.

That includes American Frances Tiafoe, who is set to take on 22-year-old Jaime Faria in a third-round match on Saturday morning.

Tiafoe, who made it to the quarterfinals at Roland Garros last year, is a -188 favorite to win the contest.

After a disappointing 2025 campaign, Tiafoe has shown flashes of his best form in 2026. There have been lapses, but for the most part, he looks a lot closer to the player who went to a pair of semifinals at the US Open between 2022 and 2024.

French Open R3 previews and predictions: Cobolli vs. Tien, Berrettini vs. Comesana

Compatriot Jannik Sinner may be gone, but Italians Flavio Cobolli and Matteo Berrettini are hoping to pick up the slack at the French Open on Saturday. They are set for respective third-round showdowns against Learner Tien and Francisco Comesana.(10) Flavio Cobolli vs. (18) Learner Tien Cobolli vs. Tien is probably not a third-round match you expected to see on Court Philipp-Chatrier, but that will be the case when the Saturday schedule of play gets underway at the French Open. With so many big-name players — Jannik Sinner included — having vacated the top half of the draw, Cobolli and Tien are left to take center stage. It should be a worthy match, too, even if they aren’t two of the biggest stars in the sport. A resurgent Cobolli has emerged from an early-season slump with a runner-up finish in Munich, a quarterfinal performance in Madrid, and now a pair of wins at Roland Garros over Andrea Pellegrino and Yibing Wu — both in straight sets. A red-hot Tien won the Geneva title last weekend and has maintained momentum with solid clay-court victories over Cristian Garin and Facundo Diaz Acosta. Although Cobolli is strong on this surface, he is by no means a clay-court specialist. For the time being, Tien is the craftier and more consistent all-around player of the two. That he has learned so quickly to play well on clay should be able to offset Cobolli’s minor surface advantage.Pick: Tien in 4

Australia’s Adam Walton on tennis lessons next to horses and being a ‘late bloomer’

The 27-year-old is enjoying his moment in the sun at the French Open after a shock win over Daniil Medvedev but with an eye on more grand slam success

Adam Walton’s phone has hardly stopped pinging in the past 24 hours after the 27-year-old Australian produced a huge shock at the French Open with a stunning victory over Daniil Medvedev in the first round. It was just his fourth win at grand slam level, his first victory over a top 10 player and by far his best win in terms of ranking.

“It’s been pretty crazy,” Walton told Guardian Australia, sitting in a small area of the media centre at Roland Garros, a day on from his brilliant five-set victory over the former world No 1. “There was a lot of media around the match and a lot of messages. It’s great to see them all, everyone reaching out. I haven’t had a chance to respond to all of them as I’m obviously still in the tournament, just trying to stay as locked in as possible.”

That, then, is us done for the day. Thanks all for your company, enjoy your evening, and à demain!

Emotions are different when you win, says Djokovic, and the match was a big one for him, in conditions difficult for both players. He congratulates Royer for playing really well, especially in the third set and when he served for the match, but these are the kinds of matches which provide the challenges and he hopes he doesn’t meet another Frenchman. He’s played two matches and feels like he’s played for two weeks.

Women’s No 2 seed Elena Rybakina was ejected by Yuliia Starodubtseva, while there were wins for Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic

At 4-4 in the breaker, Khachanov retrieves a drop then, somehow, drags a forehand from behind him and over his shoulder, down the line, that Trungelliti can’t get back, the clenched fist he raises to the crowd well earned. And an unretrurned serve then raises another match point; can Khachanov stay focused this time?

Immediately, Trungelleti nets to cede a mini-break, but a drop that lands just over the net is followed by fast feet which allow a backhand winner down the line; Khachanov leads 2-1, soon made 2-2. On Mathieu, though, we’ve reached the end of our first competitive set, Rublev securing it to lead Carabelli 6-1 1-6 6-3. He’s playing pretty well – and he’s being made to.

French Open Men’s Day 5 Predictions Including Arthur Rinderknech vs Matteo Berrettini

The stage is set for an exciting fifth day at the French Open with 16 intriguing matches scheduled across the grounds at Roland Garros. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Frances Tiafoe vs Hubert Hurkacz, Ben Shelton vs Raphael Collignon, and Jannik Sinner vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo. But who will secure their spot in the third round?

Tope: Arthur Rinderknech shook off an early scare to secure an opening-round win and he’ll fancy his chances again at home, where his serve can turn matches into quick-fire contests. But Matteo Berrettini brings a different level of firepower, having roared back from a set down against Fucsovics and finished like a man in full control. Their only previous meeting ended prematurely, so there’s unfinished business here, and with both men leaning heavily on service games, I’ll side with the man with the bigger serve.

French Open R2 previews and predictions: Rinderknech vs. Berrettini, Shelton vs. Collignon

Second-round action at Roland Garros on Thursday brings Matteo Berrettini up against home crowd favorite Arthur Rinderknech. Ben Shelton faces Belgium’s Raphael Collignon in what could be a tricky afternoon for the American.

Matteo Berrettini is not the player you want to run into on clay in the second round, regardless of what the rankings say. The Italian comes in unseeded and ranked 107th, but his 70-28 career clay record means he’s a factor as long as he’s healthy. Against Marton Fucsovics in the first round, Berrettini was shaky out of the gate before winning three sets in a row as his serve and forehand found their groove. That pattern of warming up slowly and then taking over is vintage Berrettini. His best Roland Garros result was a quarterfinal run in 2021. The courts are playing faster than usual this week, with the heat drying the clay out — which benefits his natural aggression.

French Open 2026: Sinner v Cerundolo, Osaka v Vekic, and more on day five – live

🎾 Updates from the fifth day’s play at Roland Garros
🎾 Mensik: playing in Paris heat ‘insane’ | Mail Daniel

Sinner breaks Cerudolo again to lead 6-3 4-1, and he’ll soon be back in the locker room, so too Cobolli, who leads Wu 6-4 6-4 4-3. Otherwise, Tiafoe leads Hurkacz 2-1 with a break, Diaz acosta now leads Tien 5-7 6-4 5-3, Faria leads Struff 7-5 7-6 2-0 and Svajda leads Walton 6-3 6-4 5-6 on serve.

Back on Lenglen, Kouame – another it’s hard to see losing –holds for 6-5, then reaches 30-40 and set point, varying the trajectory and pace of his forehands … before exploding into a backhand winner, sent from centre to corner, inside-in! It’s a fantastic shot but more than that, a fantastic rally, totally controlled by a 17-year-old who looks terrifyingly complete. So he strikes what has already come to be his pose, right hand cupping an ear and left arm stretched across his body, hand on heart. This is amazing, affirming and inspiring to watch, a young man announcing himself to the world like it’s his; this is so overjoying I barely know what to do with myself and Kouame leads 6-3 7-5.

17-year-old Frenchman Moïse Kouamé becomes youngest male to win a grand slam singles match since 2009, as Aryna Sabalenka sails through in straight sets

Ok, that’s it for it our day three coverage of the French Open. Keep your eyes peeled out for Tumaini Carayol’s updates from Roland Garros. Earlier he saw the talented French teenager Moïse Kouamé beat Marin Cilic in front of a raptuous Court Simonne Mathieu:

After taking the second set, home favourite Diane Parry is down a break in the third against Anhelina Kalinina, it’s currently 2-0 to the Ukrainian in that decider on Chatrier. On Court 7, 14th seed Luciano Darderi was serving for the first set at 5-4 against Sebastian Ofner of Austria, but failed to see it off and has been broken back.

French Open 2026: Sabalenka and Kouame win; Medvedev in action on sweltering day three – live

17-year-old Frenchman Moïse Kouamé becomes youngest male to win a grand slam singles match since 2009, as Aryna Sabalenka sails through in straight sets

Osaka holds for 1-0 but, more generally, where is she going? When she lost a close one she should’ve won, against Swiatek in 2024, I thought she was fully back, but it’s not quite worked out that way. She does still have time, though, and if she finds her best form she can beat anyone. She leads Siegemund 1-0.

Moise Kouame, though. At 17, I was still being a moron in school – yes, and everywhere else I went. It’s probably for the best I didn’t have the talent of a top tenniser, but he very much does and I’d not be at all surprised if he goes a bit further – it’s Norrie or Vallejo next, then Tabilo, Vaucherot or Faurel after that.
