We picked 5 of the top places to get pizza across the Midwest

Honestly, it's the perfect food, made from a mixture of crispy dough, tangy tomato sauce, a sprinkling of cheese, and toppings of your choice.

From Neapolitan-style and Chicago deep dish, to thin crust New York and tavern-style pizza, there's no shortage of ways to throw the dough to craft the ultimate pie. And toppings can take on a life of their own atop a cheesy slice, from pepperoni, sausage and bacon to onions, fresh basil, peppers and yes, even pineapple.

There's no wrong way to top a slice (we stand by the pineapple comment) and no shortage of places that make a pie so good you'll want to sing "that's amore."

These five incredible pizzas are worth the road trip in Middle America

The Midwest has a way of turning pizza into a destination, not just a meal, but a reason to get in the car and chase something warm, nostalgic and a little surprising. Across Iowa, South Dakota and Wisconsin, these five incredible pizzas map out a road trip that swings from crackery Milwaukee squares to smoky Iowa City Neapolitans to whole wheat Ames heft and New York-style slices in the Des Moines metro and Sioux Falls. Each stop carries its own personality: the whole‑wheat crust meant to dip in honey in Ames, the foldable metro slices that feel straight off a Manhattan sidewalk, the wood‑fired Iowa City pies kissed by local produce, the ’90s‑cool Sioux Falls hangout slinging high‑end toppings and the historic Milwaukee tavern that essentially wrote the city’s pizza playbook. Together, they form a trail worth following.

Nicole Kidman treated her younger sister Antonia to a lavish Italian getaway for her birthday, but it turns out the A-lister had a secret agenda for the trip – scouting out a new home in Europe!

Nicole, 59, Antonia, 56, and friends and family, including daughters Sunday Rose, 18, and Sybella Hawley, 19, have been living the glamorous life in Portofino, exploring the Italian Riviera fishing village and soaking up the sights from on board a yacht.

Nicole Kidman spotted with private equity investor at Italy hotel after Keith Urban divorce

Nicole Kidman was recently spotted with a private equity investor named Michael Reinstein outside her Portofino, Italy, hotel on Saturday, according to photos obtained by Page Six.

The actress, 59, stunned in a silky cream camisole and matching skirt while standing close and chatting with the businessman over the weekend.

The Regent founder, who cut a casual figure in a blue shirt, shorts and sunglasses, reached past the “Big Little Lies” star’s window grates as he departed.

Reinstein, notably, is a Los Angeles native who founded his global private equity firm in 2013, of which he is chairman and chief investment officer.

Liverpool get significant green light to sign Bradley Barcola as PSG demand mammoth price

Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their quest to sign Bradley Barcola, with TEAMtalk understanding the Paris Saint-Germain star's camp are actively exploring a move this summer – although it will take a British-record fee.

PSG have continued to insist publicly that Barcola is not for sale.

However, we have already revealed the player's representatives have been working behind the scenes on his future for several weeks and have already held discussions with a number of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Sources have confirmed Barcola informed PSG before the World Cup that he wanted to assess his options after slipping down the pecking order in Luis Enrique’s formidable attacking unit.

Liverpool’s Search for Mohamed Salah Replacement Is Becoming Worryingly Expensive

Liverpool will soon be forced into a major decision in their pursuit of an elite-level replacement for the departed Mohamed Salah.

The Reds bid farewell to their superstar forward this summer and now face the unenviable task of replacing a player whose nine-year tenure at Anfield saw him earn a reputation as one of the greatest players in Premier League history.

RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande was the initial target but, despite Liverpool’s willingness to spend $114 million (€100 million, £85 million) on the Côte d’Ivoire international, Paris Saint-Germain are expected to secure his signature instead.

Reports suggest PSG winger Bradley Barcola could be a leading alternative. L’Équipe note the Reds hold the strongest interest in a player who also sits on Arsenal’s list of attacking targets.

'Have to get me off at gunpoint': The fight for people's right to live on boats

James Bryan lives on his yacht, the Lindy Lou. (ABC News: Mario Conti)

On the boat that has become his home, James Bryan has a clear message for the authorities that want to evict him: "They'll have to get me off with a gun".

Mr Bryan is among the many Australians struggling with housing affordability.

When he lost his job, rather than joining the throngs of homeless in NSW, he turned to living on the Lindy Lou at Brisbane Water on the NSW Central Coast.

"Lost my job, lost my apartment, ended up on the water," Mr Bryan said.

There's just one problem with that. It is illegal to live on a boat in NSW and, as a result, authorities want to seize the vessel.

TRACEY SWANN:  At the moment I live on my boat. As long as you've got your boat registered and you've got the paperwork, you're all right sort of thing and it doesn't cost all that much.

MYLES HOULBROOK-WALK, REPORTER:  This boat is Tracey Swann’s home. She’s a disability support pensioner and when she’s not living here, she’s sleeping wherever she can.

TRACEY SWANN:  In between that we've been living in squats in Gosford like in, yeah, been living in abandoned buildings and stuff like that.

MYLES HOULBROOK-WALK: But she’s got her eye on a new floating home – a larger boat that’s been left abandoned on Brisbane Water on the New South Wales Central Coast.

Opinion | Where the World Cup, Homelessness, and the ED Meet

American infrastructure has been forced to step up with the arrival of tourists for the FIFA World Cup. From the creation of more robust security plans to the expansion of travel networks, the nation has placed significant effort into making the next few weeks logistically easier for visiting tourists and local fans alike. Amid these changes, however, several cities have also sought to make homelessness less visible, particularly in the eyes of our international visitors.

I believe that safe housing is a human right and that cities should, at baseline, invest more in public housing. Stable housing improves medication adherence, facilitates treatment for chronic illness, and provides the scaffolding for people to seek preventive care rather than falling prey to avoidable hospitalizations or potentially dangerous exposures. Yet I also take issue with the fact that the pressure to expand and incorporate public housing is being driven by a large international sporting event rather than a lasting commitment to structural health equity.

‘Don’t pay Gatto, don’t get access’: Leaks expose companies with gangland figure on payroll

A two-year attempted clean-up of Victoria’s Big Build has failed to stop large sums of money flowing from state and federally funded projects to the underworld. Payments are still being made this year.

An explosive leak from an associate of Mick Gatto exposes his secret empire, revealing a sprawling and continuing money trail from Big Build subcontractors to the gangland veteran and his associates. More than a dozen subcontractors on Labor projects have placed Gatto on their payroll.

The revelations come amid a separate leak revealing principal contractors confidentially documented state government directions to cave in to the CFMEU’s lawless takeover of the Big Build. The CFMEU’s Big Build takeover became entrenched while now Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan was minister responsible for the government’s signature $100 billion infrastructure program.

From big house to Big Build: CFMEU chief’s courtroom plea for violent contractor exposed

The union boss greenlighted by the Victorian Labor government to wield huge control over the Big Build vouched in court for a major drug trafficker on two separate occasions before installing him at the helm of a major Big Build firm – only for the criminal to be busted and jailed again.

The support provided by the CFMEU’s now former boss on the Big Build, Joe Myles, to criminal Wayne “Junior” Carter has emerged as a case study of how criminals infiltrated Labor’s signature infrastructure scheme.

Queensland court records uncovered by this masthead reveal that on two occasions, in 2012 and then again in 2020, Myles provided court character references for Carter as the prolific drug trafficker prepared to be jailed for serious crimes, including an eight-year sentence for trafficking dangerous drugs.

‘Offensive and unlawful’: Big Build contractors slapped as ex-watchdogs back royal commission

Victoria’s top labour hire cop has launched an unprecedented attack on the state’s Big Build mega-contractors, saying they are the head of the rotting fish that is the state’s corruption-plagued construction sector and declaring that legal holes mean they get away with appalling wrongdoing.

Labour Hire Commissioner Steve Dargavel’s extraordinary comments came as two respected former top anti-corruption officials issued a damning joint assessment of Premier Jacinta Allan’s failure to clean up the infrastructure scheme she presided over for years as minister.

Former ombudsman Deborah Glass and ex-senior judge and former chief of the Independent Broad-based Anti-Corruption Commission Robert Redlich said an urgent royal commission was the only remedy that would adequately confront corruption on the government’s signature $109 billion Big Build infrastructure program.

If Australia are to get the job done against Paraguay, they know they need one man firing on all cylinders — Jordan Bos.

At his best, left wing-back Bos is devastating, with his speed, guile and skill terrorising opponents.

But so far, the Socceroos dynamo hasn't hit his straps at this World Cup.

With a win or draw against Paraguay in Santa Clara on Thursday (Friday AEST), Australia will finish second in group D behind the United States, locking in a trip to Dallas next week to face the runners-up in group G.

Socceroos star might’ve just found his new position as Aussie legend raves about ‘huge achievement’ after ‘big ask’

Harry Kewell lauded Jordy Bos and the Socceroos after Australia secured their place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32 on Friday (AEST).

The Socceroos required at least a draw to secure second spot behind co-hosts the United States and their 0-0 stalemate with Paraguay in Santa Clara got the job done in Group D.

Australia closed out Group D with four points from three games – two points behind the USA, moving through to the knockout phase for the third time in their history, and the second consecutive tournament.

Tony Popovic made six changes to the starting XI, bringing Nestory Irankunda back into the starting XI along with Aziz Behich following Jacob Italiano’s injury, while Socceroos star Bos was moved to right-back to accommodate for Behich. Cristian Volpato, Jackson Irvine and Lucas Herrington also started.
