PREVIEW: UNITED HEAD WEST FOR GLORY

Canberra United make one of their toughest trips of the season this weekend, as the team travels to Western Australia to take on Perth Glory in Round 17.

With only six rounds left in the season before finals, every point is becoming increasingly more crucial as United search for the club’s first piece of silverware since the 2016/17 season.

This will be the second time that United have met Perth, with a three-nil win in Round Four the previous result between the two.

The recent head to head against this weekend’s opponent heavily favours United, unbeaten in the last five meetings with three wins in a row.

Glory Anticipate Challenging Showdown Against Resurgent Bulls in ALM Match

Perth Glory is set to face a challenging encounter against Macarthur FC on February 6, 2026, at Campbelltown Sports Stadium. The match, part of the 2025/26 Isuzu UTE A-League season, kicks off at 4:35 PM WST. It promises to be a critical test for Glory, who secured a 2-0 victory against the Bulls earlier in the season.

Head Coach Adam Griffiths recognizes the strengths of Macarthur FC. His team previously defeated the Bulls in Round 6, but the squad has since bolstered their roster. Macarthur has lost only one of their last ten games and features key players like Mitch Duke.

Griffiths stated, “Macarthur’s a very strong team. They’ve recruited more players and are now a stronger team than they were in that last game.” He emphasized that the upcoming match will test Glory’s development and their ability to secure three points.

A pair of calamitous howlers from Filip Kurto have allowed Perth Glory to snatch a point in a 2-2 draw away against Macarthur.

The goalkeeper made blunders for both of Glory's goals after Macarthur looked destined to walk away with a valuable home win at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Friday.

Kurto was at fault for the opening goal in the 36th minute when he failed to cleanly save a Nicholas Pennington strike.

Perth Glory Women's coach Stephen Peters has criticised a lack of investment in the women's A-League, calling for more funds.

In recent years, the Glory's women's side has been Perth's saving grace, as the men's team suffered back-to-back wooden-spoon finishes.

A new report has found the women's A-League is losing ground to global leagues and rival domestic sports despite strong international interest.

Perth Glory Women's coach Stephen Peters has criticised a lack of investment in the women's A-League, which he says has not reaped the benefits of the Matildas' success at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Women’s football in Australia reaches Rubicon moment with future vision revealed | Joey Lynch

The PFA’s new strategy ‘is not doom and gloom’, rather it hopes to serve as a springboard for investment and offer an opportunity to grow the game

In 2015, Elise Kellond-Knight was part of the Matildas squad that took history-making strike action, paving the way for a decade of increased investment that saw the team rise to prominence and Australia secure hosting rights for the 2023 Women’s World Cup and this year’s Women’s Asian Cup. Now, with that continental showpiece less than two months away, the retired midfielder sees the women’s game in Australia at another Rubicon moment, one requiring bold investment in the future of a fully professional A-League Women.

'Lion', Kubrick fan, artist: Meet the A-League's most interesting coach

New Perth Glory coach Adam Griffiths doesn't want to talk about mountain goats any more.

Two weeks ago his post-match press conference went viral, when he delivered a one-minute monologue on those most sure-footed of mammals, before telling the media: "I am a lion."

The meaning, he says, is in the ear of the beholder.

"It's something for the person to absorb and take for whatever they want," he tells the ABC of the aside ahead of this weekend's clash with Adelaide United.

Proposed interpretations and a suggestion he took inspiration from football legend Zlatan Ibrahimović, who has similarly referred to himself as a lion, are met with a swift "no".
