'Wharfie Time' at the Grand Final? League to consider Dockers' trademark activation

The Dockers could be able to use their fan-favourite sound if the AFL approves it early this week

FREMANTLE will be able to request to use 'Wharfie Time' at next week's Grand Final, with the AFL to make a call on the move early in the week.

The Dockers progressed to just the second Grand Final in their history with their come-from-behind win over Sydney on Friday night and will face the winner of Saturday night's preliminary final between Hawthorn and Brisbane in next week's flag decider.

The club has on occasion used the in-stadium activation at its Optus Stadium games in recent years, with 'Wharfie Time' on the big screens and the intro to AC/DC's song 'Hells Bells' blaring through the speakers to ignite a reaction from the crowd usually in a tight game.

Former Fremantle star names new race horse with distinct Dockers tone

Riding the wave of his former team, Fremantle,  Hayden Ballantyne has decided to name the newest addition to his racehorse stable "Wharfie Time".

Ballantyne, who played 171 games and kicked 254 goals for the Dockers, has joined in the hype over Fremantle's now-famous in-game activation. The name was confirmed with the Registrar of Racehorses earlier in the week.

When the Dockers are up or down by a small margin late in a game at their home at Optus Stadium, AC/DC's Hells Bells plays out to the raptures of the purple haze faithful.

Reports surfaced during the week that Ballantyne, now a racehorse trainer located in Perth under the Hayden Ballantyne Racing moniker, had put the Wharfie Time name forward for his new yearling filly.

GTA 6 soundtrack reveal revives digital release debate

The reveal of a Grand Theft Auto 6 soundtrack album has reignited a debate over the decision not to release the game on disc.

Developer Rockstar Games announced a 34-track compilation, set to release on CD and vinyl on the same day as the highly anticipated video game.

The company says it will include original music from a "genre-defying roster of the most exciting artists in the world" including rapper Travis Scott, country singer Morgan Wallen and UK singer PinkPantheress.

But some fans have pointed out the "irony" of putting out a physical edition of the album following its controversial decision for a digital-only release of the game.

Melbourne will be the third stop on the Formula 1 calendar, with Bahrain hosting the season-opening race.

A sprint race will be a feature of the Australian Grand Prix next year.

Melbourne's Australian Grand Prix will not have the privilege of opening the 2027 Formula 1 season, but it will boast two races in its biggest weekend yet.

After landing the chance to open the F1 year in 2026 as it once traditionally did for two decades, the Albert Park event will be the third stop on next season's record-equalling 24-race program.

The main race will take place later than usual on April 4, with Bahrain replacing Melbourne as the season-opening venue on March 14.

Albert Park to host Round 3 of 2027 F1 season on April 1-4

The first piece of the 2027 Repco Supercars Championship calendar puzzle has been formally locked in, with the confirmation of the Australian Grand Prix date.

Confirmed by Formula 1 overnight, the 2027 Australian Grand Prix will be held on April 1-4, and is the third round of the new season after Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

F1 also confirmed Albert Park will, for the first time, host a Sprint race.

The F1 Sprint format features a practice session and Sprint qualifying on Friday, Sprint race and Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday, and the traditional Sunday Grand Prix.

Fans face price hikes and ticketing shake-up for Melbourne Grand Prix

Four-day tickets to the Australian Grand Prix will increase again in 2027 for people who want guaranteed access to the Albert Park circuit.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) has announced a new ticketing structure for the April event, including a membership offering and the addition of a sprint race.

Where a four-day general admission pass costs $425 – an extra $40 above what it was this year – people who pay an extra $275 for an Albert Park Circuit Club Membership will be granted entry 30 minutes early, as well as discounts on merchandise and priority renewal access each year.

For $1370, grandstand members will get reserved seating in a grandstand of their choosing and a member welcome pack.

Hungarian Grand Prix race times, weather forecast, how to follow on the BBC

The final Formula 1 race before the summer break is the Hungarian Grand Prix, from 24-26 July.

McLaren's Lando Norris took pole in Saturday's qualifying, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and the Briton's team-mate Oscar Piastri set to start behind him.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton round out the top five.

While Hamilton qualified second, the stewards deemed him to have impeded Piastri during the session, resulting in a three-place grid penalty for the seven-time world champion.

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, who originally qualified fourth, has also dropped down three places for not slowing sufficiently under single yellow flags.

He will start in seventh, behind team-mate George Russell in sixth spot.

Austrian Grand Prix: George Russell grabs pole from Charles Leclerc after Max Verstappen crash

Mercedes driver George Russell controversially snatched pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc with the last lap of the session.

The result came amid late drama as Russell set his lap, beating Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, despite passing yellow flags for a crash by Red Bull's Max Verstappen at the penultimate corner.

Russell's team-mate Kimi Antonelli, who was running just ahead of the Briton, also passed the Verstappen incident, but did not improve his time and will line up fourth.

McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were sixth and seventh behind Verstappen, who kept fifth despite his crash.

'So sweet, so hooked up' – Russell relishes feeling of taking pole for Austrian GP

George Russell made it back-to-back F1 pole positions via some late Qualifying drama in Austria.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff heaped praise on George Russell following Saturday’s Qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix, describing his final Q3 effort as “incredible” and one that came from him using “all his experience” in F1.

Russell trailed team mate and championship leader Kimi Antonelli after the first Q3 runs, but the pole shootout was turned on its head across the second sequence of laps when Red Bull’s Max Verstappen crashed heavily and brought out the yellow flags.

GTA 6 will cost $80 – and physical edition will not contain a disc

Grand Theft Auto 6, the latest instalment of Rockstar Games' biggest ever franchise, will cost $79.99, with a more premium edition costing $99.99.

It is not yet known how much the game will cost in the UK – the BBC has asked Rockstar for a list of regional prices.

Rockstar said physical copies of the game will contain a code for a digital download for the game inside a box, rather than a disc.

Freelance video games journalist Vic Hood said the price tag for the standard edition was "fairly reasonable" but said the lack of disc may "irk some physical collectors".

However, she added the decision made sense from Rockstar's point of view, "as it reduces the amount of rebuying and reselling and helps prevent leaks".

Rafael Nadal: 22-time Grand Slam singles champion discusses injury struggles in new Netflix documentary

Rafael Nadal had one of the greatest tennis careers the game has ever seen. He also spent nearly all of it in pain.

Between his first French Open win in 2005 and retirement in 2024, the Spaniard won 22 Grand Slam singles titles – the second-highest total of any man.

He was part of the 'Big Three' era, where he, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic carved up the sport's biggest prizes and thrilled fans.

But a chronic foot injury meant Nadal had to find different ways just to get through matches, let alone win them.

In a new Netflix series, the 39-year-old opens up about the risks he took with his health in order to achieve greatness.

Pain is the spur: Rafael Nadal reveals chronic foot problem plagued career

Rafael Nadal has revealed he spent most of his career in pain as he willed himself to play through a chronic foot injury and went on to win 22 grand slam titles while spending two decades ruling men’s tennis alongside Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

The Spaniard, who retired in 2024, said he took immense risks with his health to keep his career going, after a Netflix series called Rafa provided an in-depth look into his physical and mental struggles to pursue greatness.

“I’ve had to make decisions about my health, where you are on the borderline between right or wrong. But if I hadn’t explored all that, I probably would have had 10 fewer grand slams … this is the reality,” Nadal told the BBC on Friday.

Another grand final win can put A-League icon in reach of Ange’s record

History has already been made in this season’s A-League men’s grand final, no matter what happens on the pitch.

For the first time in 49 years of Australian national league history, a team from New Zealand has not only reached the game’s domestic showpiece, but also earned the right to host it against Sydney FC, after premiers Newcastle and second-placed Adelaide United crashed out in the semi-finals.

The sold-out crowd at Auckland’s Go Media Stadium will also see an historic showdown between the two coaches involved, Steve Corica and Patrick Kisnorbo. Corica and Kisnorbo faced off in the 2021 grand final, when they were in charge of Sydney FC and Melbourne City, respectively; never before have the same two coaches returned to the grand final stage but with different clubs.
