Federal politics live: Greens senator 'disappointed' by leadership ballot, calls for member vote

Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi says she is disappointed by the result of the party's leadership ballot, following the election of David Shoebridge as leader.

Earlier, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese flagged the mid-year budget update in December would include measures to tackle the cost of living.

Queensland treasurer David Janetzki also used his address to renew his calls for an overhaul to the GST-carve up.

The current settings were criticised in an interim report from the Productivity Commission (PC), calling a sweetheart deal to boost Western Australia's share a "costly mistake".

Anthony Albanese responded to the report by ruling out changes to the arrangement while he is prime minister.

Greens leader Larissa Waters has quit the party’s top job due to illness.

The party will hold a secret ballot of its MPs this week to elect a new leader.
