The Duke and Duchess of Sussex “hate” the phrase “working members of the royal family”, believing it to be a “lazy” definition of royal duty.
The long-established term is used by the monarchy to define working royals who undertake engagements on behalf of the institution and who attend official events such as Trooping the Colour and the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph.
But Harry and Meghan, who carried out their first joint public engagements since returning to the UK in Nottingham last week, take exception to the definition because “they are members of the royal family and they work”. Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
