Seven Copa Libertadores quarterfinalists have already been determined

Seven of the eight Copa Libertadores quarterfinalists have been determined. Corinthians, Estudiantes, Fluminense, Platense, Palmeiras, LDU Quito and Flamengo have already advanced past the round of 16, The Rio Times reports. The final quarterfinalist will be determined by the return match between Ecuador's Independiente del Valle and Colombia's Deportes Tolima, which will take place on August 25 in Quito.

Corinthians advanced after a 1-0 home win over Rosario Central. The first match ended in a 0-0 draw, so the Brazilian club won the tie 1-0 on aggregate. In the quarterfinals, the team will play Estudiantes, which eliminated Universidad Católica 4-1 on aggregate.

River out on penalties as Copa Sudamericana 2026 quarter-finals set, Boca to face San Pablo

River were knocked out at home by Independiente Santa Fe on penalties, and Boca will face San Pablo in the Copa Sudamericana 2026 quarter-finals.

The second leg finished 1-1 in normal time, the shootout ended 8-7 to the Colombians. According to LaNumer12.com.ar, it was the last undecided tie, so the bracket is now complete.

The quarter-finals will be Boca Juniors v San Pablo, Independiente Santa Fe v Vasco Da Gama, Santos v Atlético Mineiro, and Cienciano v Montevideo City Torque.

Boca will start the tie at La Bombonera, hosting San Pablo on Wednesday nine September, kick-off to be confirmed. The return is due a week later at Morumbí.

Rory McIlroy has fired a thinly veiled shot at some of LIV Golf's biggest names who may seek to return to the PGA Tour.

McIlroy said: "I would argue, have they brought value to LIV?"

LIV Golf has secured a funder, but it remains unclear whether the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith will stay with the rebel circuit or return to the PGA Tour.

Masters champion Rory McIlroy believes it could be a "tough road back" for LIV Golf players who may be eyeing a return to the PGA Tour and questioned what value they would even offer the US-based circuit.

We have some disappointing news about Lucky season 1 episode 7

This summer, there have been a long list of incredible new streaming shows to keep us on the edge of our seats during the hottest days of the year. From binge-watching every second of Netflix's I Will Find You in one sitting to falling head over heels for the authentic coming-of-age tale in Prime Video's Sterling Point, it's been a great time for TV. Of course, that includes Apple TV's Lucky.

Anya Taylor-Joy headlines the electric miniseries from executive producer Reese Witherspoon, and since the premiere of Lucky back in July, we have been itching week after week to see what will happen to the titular character. She's come a long way from the cat and mouse chase that had her on the run at the start of the show, but the deadly trail has inevitably reached its end.

Lucky S1E7 Recap: “All Good Things” (Finale) — A Happy Ending

The following recap contains spoilers for Lucky S1E7, “All Good Things” (written by Cassie Pappas and directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken)

Does the finale of Lucky have a happy ending? By the episode’s end, Lucky has managed to free herself from Wayne, Priscilla, Agent Rand, the FBI, and, most importantly, her father, John. She’s lost pretty much everything at this point, but she seems at relative peace on that beach, the rest of her life available to her in a way it never has been before. In my opinion, “All Good Things” definitely has a happy ending.

Why did Ceuta migrant mayhem chill already frosty Israel-Spain relations?

What caused more than 50,000 migrants to storm a Spanish enclave in Africa, and did Israel have anything to do with it?

Spain says the crisis in its North African enclave Ceuta is back under control, with most of the more than 50,000 migrants who stormed across its borders over recent days choosing to voluntarily go back to Morocco.

Tens of thousands of people crossed into Ceuta on Thursday and continued arriving overnight into Friday.

Most came by sea, swimming or in small boats, to get around the border fence. Some rushed border crossing points in such numbers that the guards were overwhelmed. Others tried to climb the breakwater that holds the border fence. At least 67 people died trying to reach Ceuta.

Spain plans new border barrier in Ceuta as death toll revealed

London: Spain will install a new barrier to keep migrants from Morocco out of its enclave of Ceuta after more than 50,000 people stormed into the territory, as European leaders call an urgent meeting to toughen border rules.

The floating containment barrier will stretch for 500 metres along the sea border at the North African enclave in a move to prevent a future crisis after almost all the recent arrivals walked back to Morocco.

In the worst event of its kind in decades of tension at the border, 67 people died when thousands of young people swam, walked around the rocks or charged through the border checkpoints to get from Morocco into Ceuta.

Emily Wilson, the classicist whose 2017 translation of Homer’s Odyssey was cited by Christopher Nolan in early publicity for his hugely successful adaptation of the poem, has roundly criticised the film, saying “it has nothing convincing to say” and that it “lacks psychological, emotional, political and ethical depth”.

Wilson is an acclaimed translator of Homer’s epic poemsThe Iliad and The Odyssey, and her opening sentence to the latter (“Tell me about a complicated man”) was previously cited by Nolan.

But her review of the film for the London Review of Books was so scathing that it’s going viral, and the publication’s website appeared to go down early on Monday.

‘Wouldn’t have been my choice’: Farage praises Hanson, but breaks with her on right-wing podcast

London: One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has been backed by British right-wing populist Nigel Farage after they met at a closed-door political gathering also attended by mining billionaire Gina Rinehart.

Farage, who is leading the polls with his Reform UK party, heaped praise on Hanson for her staying power in politics, but he took issue with her decision to sit down for a podcast with far-right activist Tommy Robinson.

Hanson and Rinehart arrived in London to attend the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), where the One Nation leader was given a front-row seat to hear Farage address the summit on Friday afternoon (about 1.30am on Saturday AEST).

London | Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has sung the praises of Pauline Hanson as the two right-wing populists put aside a tough fortnight to meet each other at a major conservative political gathering in Britain.

Joining Hanson at the Conservative Political Action Conference in London on Friday was Australia’s richest woman Gina Rinehart, after the pair were photographed earlier this week having a poolside meeting at luxury Italian resort as well as attending a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show.

Hanson laments end of White Australia policy on Tommy Robinson podcast

Pauline Hanson believes that, after the end of the White Australia policy, immigrants came to Australia "purely for the welfare system". (ABC News: Ian Cutmore)

Pauline Hanson has singled out the end of the White Australia policy as the beginning of migration issues in Australia.

In an interview with convicted felon and far-right activist Tommy Robinson, she suggested without evidence migrants came to Australia "purely for the welfare system".

Senator Hanson also revealed she believed her daughter, Lee, had the "potential" to be a leader of the party.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has blamed the end of the White Australia policy for migration issues in the country during a controversial podcast appearance with a far-right activist in the UK.

For decades Australian house prices have grown. This is what a fall could mean

After decades of growth Australian house prices are slowing. Here's what a fall could look like.

Following a shake-up to negative gearing and the capital gains tax (CGT) discounts, the housing market has stalled and auction clearance rates are down.

There's some consternation among investors and home owners about a decrease in property values — and their concerns are backed by the big banks.

NAB has predicted a 2 per cent drop across major capital cities, while Commonwealth Bank has revised their growth estimate to 3 per cent, down from 5 per cent.

Prices are already sliding, with a reported 1.2 per cent decrease in Sydney last month alone.

Australia enters ninth housing downturn, but will it last long?

The Australian property market has entered its ninth downturn, but the history books offer hope for hard-pressed vendors.

New analysis released today by Domain forecasts the country’s two biggest property markets would be hit hardest, with Sydney house prices falling 7 per cent and Melbourne by 8 per cent in the new financial year.

Domain data says the housing market has officially entered its ninth downturn. Peter Rae SMH

While would-be buyers are exposed to borrowing constraints in these markets, prices in more affordable Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide are expected to keep growing.

House values have been taking a caning during past months due to three consecutive interest rates, changes to capital gains tax and negative gearing, as well as the impact to consumer confidence of the US-Iran war.

'Have to get me off at gunpoint': The fight for people's right to live on boats

James Bryan lives on his yacht, the Lindy Lou. (ABC News: Mario Conti)

On the boat that has become his home, James Bryan has a clear message for the authorities that want to evict him: "They'll have to get me off with a gun".

Mr Bryan is among the many Australians struggling with housing affordability.

When he lost his job, rather than joining the throngs of homeless in NSW, he turned to living on the Lindy Lou at Brisbane Water on the NSW Central Coast.

"Lost my job, lost my apartment, ended up on the water," Mr Bryan said.

There's just one problem with that. It is illegal to live on a boat in NSW and, as a result, authorities want to seize the vessel.

Opinion | Where the World Cup, Homelessness, and the ED Meet

American infrastructure has been forced to step up with the arrival of tourists for the FIFA World Cup. From the creation of more robust security plans to the expansion of travel networks, the nation has placed significant effort into making the next few weeks logistically easier for visiting tourists and local fans alike. Amid these changes, however, several cities have also sought to make homelessness less visible, particularly in the eyes of our international visitors.

I believe that safe housing is a human right and that cities should, at baseline, invest more in public housing. Stable housing improves medication adherence, facilitates treatment for chronic illness, and provides the scaffolding for people to seek preventive care rather than falling prey to avoidable hospitalizations or potentially dangerous exposures. Yet I also take issue with the fact that the pressure to expand and incorporate public housing is being driven by a large international sporting event rather than a lasting commitment to structural health equity.

Is it possible to have a monoculture? This WA town doesn't think so

Alep Mydie says One Nation's concept of an Australian monoculture is flawed. (ABC Great Southern: Madina Jaffari)

Leaders in regional WA say their town was built on multiculturalism.

It comes after One Nation leader Pauline Hanson suggested Australia should have a monoculture in her address to the National Press Club last week.

Senator Hanson has been invited to discuss the issue with Katanning Imam Alep Mydie.

When Imam Alep Mydie heard One Nation leader Pauline Hanson's call to establish a monocultural Australia, he was more confused than concerned.

"Even in the place I call home, which is Katanning, I have been here for the past 56 years, multiculturalism has existed before I arrived here," he said.

The message was clear. It was from a recent migrant from South Africa who was married to a recent migrant from Bosnia.

At a round-table birthday party discussion, the subject of Pauline Hanson's National Press Club speech came up. The migrant said she did not feel qualified to comment but mentioned a hospital visit with her child which cost nothing; the lack of violence; the abundance of good food at a reasonable price; and how she and her husband were on track to buy a house. In short, she wondered: "What are you whingeing about?"

Pauline Hanson’s address to the National Press Club was the talk of the town — well, of the town in which I live, Canberra, anyway — for a few days last week. But GetUp!’s banner stunt and Hanson’s intemperate abuse of Guardian journalist Sarah Martin have distracted analysts from the best evidence we have so far of what One Nation, in the guise of a putative mainstream party of the right, now stands for. If it is no longer a minor party of protest rooted in rural and regional grievance and reaction, what exactly is it?
