Keeley Hawes & Freddie Highmore Returning For Season 2 Of ‘The Assassin’
EXCLUSIVE: The Assassin is coming back. Prime Video has confirmed a second season of the thriller series has been greenlit, with production kicking off later this year. We were previously the first to report that Season 2 was in development and now have the news it is full speed ahead on a new run of the drama, which was created and written by Harry and Jack Williams.
Keeley Hawes is coming back as Julie. She is the former assassin who, in Season 1, found her quiet life on a Greek island disrupted when her son, Edward, turned up seeking answers around his paternity. Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor) stars as Edward and is also back for Season 2. Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Girlfriend) will reprise her role as Kayla, Edward’s tenacious and savvy fiancée. Devon Terrell (It’s What’s Inside, Barry) returns as Ezra, Kayla’s unpredictable brother.
The Fate of Prime Video's 6-Part Dark Spy Thriller Decided After Divisive Season 1
Last year, Prime Video added another action crime thriller hit to its catalog thanks to the British series, The Assassin. Featuring Keeley Hawes opposite Freddie Highmore in his first television role since the end of his shift on The Good Doctor, it was hailed by critics as a captivating-if-flawed mother-son spy story, earning a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Though audiences were far less impressed overall with a 43% rating, an immediate rise to #1 on the Prime Video charts in the U.K. made a second season feel quite likely, especially with Highmore's Edward en route to finally meet his birth mother.

Keeley Hawes' 6-part crime thriller 'full of twists and turns' confirms season 2
Calling all crime thriller fans! Prime Video has announced that season two of The Assassin is officially on the way, and we can't wait for this one to air.
Starring Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore, the six-part crime thriller first landed on screens in July 2025 and told the story of Julie, a retired assassin whose estranged son arrives in Greece in search of answers about his father.
Created by award-winning duo Harry Williams and Jack Williams and produced by Two Brothers Pictures (The Tourist, Fleabag, Boat Story), the series scored a respectable 74% critics' rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
HELLO!'s resident thriller fan Carla Challis loved this one. She said: "The Assassin is gory, granted, and the high-energy fight scenes are cinema-worthy, but it's the 'menopausal James Bond' angle that I am loving. It's stylish, it's witty and it's ideal for those of us who mourned the end of Killing Eve and needed a similar show to fill that void. Not forgetting there's plenty of comedic moments too, with brilliant one-liners as Keeley and Freddie spar as estranged mother and son."
