UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall signs with Eddie Hearn: ‘Time to get what’s yours’

Tom Aspinall is still recovering from double eye surgery suffered in his most recent fight against Ciryl Gane

UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has new representation and it’s none other than Eddie Hearn.

The stunning news was announced on Thursday after Aspinall teased he was getting “back to business” as he boarded a flight. It turns out, he was traveling to Monaco to ink a deal with Hearn to serve as his agent, which seemingly escalates the ongoing war the Matchroom Boxing chairman has engaged with UFC CEO Dana White after he launched Zuffa Boxing.

“Welcome to the team UFC heavyweight champ Tom Aspinall,” Hearn wrote on Instagram. “Time to get what’s yours.”

UFC champion Tom Aspinall joins Matchroom in stunning move as Eddie Hearn hits back in Dana White row

UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has joined Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom and a new talent agency in a stunning move.

Just weeks after Hearn lost star fighter Conor Benn to UFC chief Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing, Matchroom has struck back by signing the Briton in a new venture for the organisation.

A return date for Aspinall has not been set, with no clarification yet over whether he will continue to only fight in MMA or cross over to boxing.

But he will now be represented by Hearn's new outfit in a significant blow to White and his public feud with the British promoter set to be involved in his commercial interests while operating in an advisory role.

Heated Rivalry review – these physically perfect people have so much sex it’s tedious

This steamy queer romance between ice hockey rivals is packed with constant shots of muscular bottoms in fancy hotel rooms. But a bit more character development or emotional investment wouldn’t go amiss

I suspect that Chala Hunter is still on a recuperative retreat somewhere. Until about May, I would think. For she was the intimacy coordinator on Heated Rivalry and she has earned a break.

For those not aware: intimacy coordinators gained prominence in the aftermath of the #MeToo movement, when assorted testimonies from actors (largely female) made public and unignorable the shocking fact that actors (largely male) and directors (largely male) will often (largely always) try to get away with more than has been contracted for once they are naked with A N Other person. An intimacy coordinator is there to help arrange scenes and advocate for actors. Think of them as somewhere between a bureaucrat and a contraceptive.

‘Heated Rivalry’ shows how queer joy can disrupt hockey’s culture of masculinity

The reason people are so captivated by Heated Rivalry, the new Crave romance adapted from Rachel Reid’s popular novel, isn’t just because the storyline is unprecedented, but because the two main characters find queer joy in impossible circumstances. In doing so, the series creates new possibilities for imagining relationships, masculinity and society.

The show centres on a romance between two professional hockey players, Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) and Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams), who are rivals in a fictitious professional hockey league.

The Delicious Anticipation–and, Yes, Release—of “Heated Rivalry”

In one of the pivotal moments in “Maurice,” E. M. Forster’s early-twentieth-century novel of homosexual love, the book’s titular protagonist—an upper-class young stockbroker battling secret gay desires—arrives at the British Museum to confront Alec Scudder, a working-class gamekeeper with whom he’s had sex. Fearing blackmail and attempting to deny his true leanings, Maurice has been fending off Alec’s advances since their encounter, and now, offended at being rebuffed, Alec has been threatening to publicly expose him. As the two wander around the museum—one pressuring, the other deflecting—the novel portrays their professed enmity as underscored by the force of attraction, even of love. “They would peer at a goddess or vase, and then move at a single impulse, and their unison was the stranger because on the surface they were at war,” Forster writes. “Alec recommenced his hints—horrible, reptilian—but somehow they did not pollute the intervening silences, and Maurice failed to get afraid or angry . . . . When he chose to reply their eyes met, and his smile was sometimes reflected on the lips of his foe. The belief grew that the actual situation was a blind—a practical joke, almost—and concealed something real, that either desired.”

'Heated Rivalry' fans, we've got your next must-see MLM romance: 'Pillion'

Heated Rivalry has audiences hot and bothered and hungry for more. But it'll likely be two years before rival hockey pros Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) return with Season 2. So what are we to do until then?

Fans are split on this. Some will tell you to plunge into the source material, Rachel Reid's Game Changer book series, which offers several spicy, hockey-centered MLM novels. Others might suggest Ember & Ice, a Quinn audio erotica drop, which reunites Williams and Storrie as winged fairies yearning for each other. (It debuted so big, the app crashed.)

Still others will recommend the "gay fever dream" that is the Interview with the Vampire TV series, as it shares an enemies-to-lovers plotline and Ilya definitely has his Brat Prince moments. However, as a big fan of the Anne Rice-inspired series, I'll warn that Interview with the Vampire is much more about tragedy and trauma than it is queer joy. So, my top recommendation for those thirsting for more of a Heated Rivalry vibe would be the upcoming A24 offering Pillion.

Pillion Becomes Must-Watch for MLM Romance

If Heated Rivalry left you buzzing for more intense gay chemistry on the rink, A24’s Pillion is likely your next romance to keep an eye on. In a whip-smart, deeply sensual story of opposites-attract sparks that melds quickfire banter with kink-positive heat, the film will be irresistible to fans craving joy, heat, and heart in equal measures from these two unforgettable lovers.

Like the hockey melodrama’s rivals-turned-lovers, Pillion focuses on a pair of men who appear destined to butt heads: a quiet, dutiful son and an almost mythically self-assured blond heartthrob whose smirking grin is just this side of graceful. When they first get together, it’s a jolt that feels silly and clumsy and shockingly tender, replacing raw need with something sturdier, unexpectedly sweet.

Is Carly Rae Jepsen writing a song for 'Heated Rivalry'?

Heated Rivalry fans really, really, really, really would like it if Carly Rae Jepsen would write them a song!

Jacob Tierney, who created the popular Canadian hockey romance show, has expressed interest in working with Canadian pop idol on the upcoming second season.

"I have a list of dream songs that I would like very much to find a way [to include]," Tierney said on the podcast What Chaos!, per Vulture.

When asked if that list of dream songs includes anything by iconic "Call Me Maybe" singer, Tierney said he "didn't even try" to get her for the first season due to budgetary restrictions, but "she was on my playlist for when I wrote."

How 'Heated Rivalry' captured the queer need for travel sanctuaries

Editor's note: This article contains spoilers from "Heated Rivalry" episode 5, “I’ll Believe In Anything,” and episode 6, "The Cottage."

For generations, LGBTQ+ people have relied on distance to feel safe. In “Heated Rivalry,” the breakout queer hockey series, that distance takes the form of a cottage.

In the final seconds of episode five of Heated Rivalry, the music fades, and the camera tightens around Ilya Rosanov (Connor Storrie) and Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams).

“I’m coming to the cottage,” proclaims Rosanov, a brash Russian hockey star. Those five words held the hope that maybe — just maybe — the two could emerge from the shadows of a decade-long secret relationship.

39 Thoughts I Had While Watching the Season 1 Finale of Heated Rivalry

I love any excuse to make the Yuletide gay, and given my traditional Christmas rewatch of Todd Haynes’s 2015 film Carol was weeks ago at this point, I was thrilled to learn that the season finale of Canada’s gay hockey sensation Heated Rivalry lined up perfectly with my glut of plan-free post-holiday TV time.

So, where did the end of the season find Ilya, Shane, Scott, Kip, et cetera? Below, find absolutely every thought I had about Season 1, Episode 6 of Heated Rivalry, enticingly titled “The Cottage”:

Down to Puck: Why Women Are Going Wild for ‘Heated Rivalry’

The Canadian series with explicit male-on-male sex scenes has tapped into a long-overlooked corner of the audience — and caught Hollywood by surprise

Thursday nights at the Poliquin household in Vancouver, British Columbia, are set aside for appointment viewing. That’s when new episodes of Heated Rivalry — the steamy gay hockey drama that has everyone buzzing — drop on premium streamer Crave in Canada and HBO Max in the U.S.

Not everyone joins in on the fun. The family’s two children, 11 and 13, are dispatched to their rooms. Matt, the dad, wanders off to the kitchen. It’s just Joy, a 45-year-old mom, who’s planted on the couch, eagerly awaiting every horny hookup between the show’s hunky protagonists: Russian Ilya Rozanov (played by Texas-born Connor Storrie, 25), star center of the fictional Boston Raiders, and Shane Hollander (Canadian actor Hudson Williams, 24), team captain of the also-fictional Montreal Metros.

‘Heated Rivalry’ and the Art of a Truly Joyful Press Tour

During an otherwise bleak news cycle, the stars of a queer Canadian hockey drama have managed to win hearts and viewers.

It’s not often you see a press tour that is as joy-filled as the project that it’s publicizing — even rarer is one that seems to peddle the same crackling chemistry off- as it does onscreen.

But that’s what appears to be happening with Canada’s queer romance series Heated Rivalry, which centers on closeted hockey rivals Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), and is based on a book series by the same name. The six-episode first season made its U.S. debut on HBO Max in late November — and in the weeks since, the series that New York magazine says makes “Heartstopper seem like Teletubbies” has flooded the Internet with swoon-worthy GIFs, memes and myriad think pieces, as its wide-eyed stars dole out one viral interview after another. (If you haven’t yet watched Williams’ five minute skincare routine, which is somehow 20 minutes long, it is a sheer delight.)
