‘Who the hell wrote that?’: Trump bombs at correspondents dinner with unfunny, tasteless speech

The do-over of the White House Correspondents’ Association’s annual dinner, rescheduled after a gunman allegedly tried to assassinate US President Donald Trump and top administration officials at the previous one, began with mutual rejection of political violence and recognition of the importance of a free press.

“An assassination attempt on our president is an attack on democracy itself,” said Weijia Jiang, the association’s outgoing president. “We will not be intimidated. We refuse to let an act of violence have the final word.”

Trump was seated at a long table on stage, facing the room and nursing a glass of Diet Coke. Before speaking, he had to sit through a presentation of annual awards for political journalism – including multiple gongs for stories that he did not like.

Trump’s address takes bitter turn after hailing ‘amazing job’ by reporters at gala

President mocks political opponents and journalists in mostly light-hearted, hour-long speech at White House correspondents’ dinner

Donald Trump joked around with the room of journalists who he again accused of producing “fake news” as he hurled insults at his political enemies in a speech at the White House correspondents’ dinner.

A day after the Trump administration abandoned, for now, an extraordinary bid to subpoena reporters over their coverage, the US president attended the rescheduled White House correspondents’ dinner – an annual celebration of press freedom – in Washington on Friday evening.

It came three months after the original event was scrapped in April when a man fired a shotgun at a security checkpoint outside the ballroom.

Trump mixes jokes with barbs at press freedom dinner

US President Donald Trump has addressed journalists at a correspondents' dinner rescheduled from April.

The original event was disrupted by a shooting, which forced the evacuation of Mr Trump and his cabinet members.

The president's speech featured some barbs, but he said he had planned to be more critical at the original event.

US President Donald Trump has poked fun at the press during a redo of the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner after a shooting forced the suspension of the original event in April.

The president, whose administration has often been at odds with the press, mostly stuck to the warm and relaxed tenor of the evening, noting that his speech for the original event "was going to be a doozy".

Driver described as 'hell on wheels' breaks silence in 'The Crash' doc

Spoiler alert: This story contains details from Netflix’s documentary “The Crash,” including the outcome of Mackenzie Shirilla’s trial.

Gareth Johnson, director of Netflix’s new true-crime documentary “The Crash,” was drawn to the story's fatal car wreck as soon as he heard about it.

At 18, Johnson was a passenger in a deadly car crash that took place in 1992, shortly after graduating high school. Of his injuries, his three shattered vertebrae required the longest recovery time.

“In the hospital, I could see the ripple effects of the crash that I was involved in on [my] family and friends and people around me,” he tells USA TODAY. “I always felt like I kind of had the easier ride because it was so traumatic for those around me.”

What to know about Mackenzie Shirilla, the Ohio teen who killed her boyfriend and his friend in 100 mph crash

Mackenzie Shirilla was dubbed “Hell on Wheels” for a devastating 2022 Ohio crash in which she drove into a brick building at 100 mph, killing her boyfriend and his friend.

Now she’s back in the limelight with the new Netflix documentary “The Crash,” which premieres Friday and delves into what led to the deadly incident.

Shirilla was 17 at the time of the July 31, 2022, crash in Strongsville, a Cleveland suburb, that killed her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, 20, and Davion Flanagan, 19.

Prosecutors said the crash was intentional, as she never hit the brakes, and described her relationship with Russo as toxic. But her family maintains her innocence as her lawyers have tried to appeal the case, unsuccessfully, in court.

The Kings are back in action following Scott Perry’s biggest move since he rejoined the organization. Of course, I’m referencing the trade that landed the Kings De’Andre Hunter for Dennis Schroder, Keon Ellis, and a 2nd round pick (routed to Chicago so they would eat Dario Saric’s contract). We went deep on this trade in the latest episode of The Kings Herald Show, so if you want to hear Jerry Reynolds discuss the move, give that a listen.

Grizzlies vs Kings Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

The short-handed Memphis Grizzlies visit Golden 1 Center for a Western Conference matchup with the Sacramento Kings tonight.

Cam Spencer has provided a spark off the Memphis bench, and my Grizzlies vs. Kings predictions expect plenty of assists from the former UConn Huskies star.

Cam Spencer is handling primary facilitator duties for the Memphis Grizzlies and doesn’t need a ceiling game to reach six assists.

He’s averaging six helpers over his last five games, and after yesterday’s major trade, Memphis is thin on bodies for tonight’s matchup with the Sacramento Kings.

Sacramento’s defense has allowed 119 points per game during its nine-game losing streak, creating terrific assist-friendly conditions for Spencer.
