US mum was 'begging for help' before killing children, family testifies

Lindsay Clancy struggled with her mental health for months before she killed her three children, her family has testified. (AP: Amanda Sabga/The Boston Herald/Pool)

"Mom, will you please come up and stay with me for a bit? I'm really sick. Something is wrong."

Warning: This story contains details that may be distressing for some readers.

Ms Clancy was a former labour and delivery nurse known as a dedicated and loving mother to three children aged five and under.

But her mental health had begun to decline after the birth of her third son, Callan.

Despite repeatedly seeking help from medical professionals, she continued to report a poor mental state.

Lindsay Clancy trial: everything that happened this week in court

Outcome of trial of a Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children may come down to witness testimony

The trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children in January 2023, will likely head to the jury next week to decide if she is guilty of murder or was suffering from postpartum psychosis and should not be held criminally responsible.

The outcome may come down to expert witness testimony – and there have been many – but the trial will be remembered for the spotlight it put on maternal health care in the United States. Defense lawyer Kevin Reddington has said that, in addition to postpartum psychosis, Clancy also had bipolar disorder and was overmedicated.

Lindsay Clancy suffering 'command hallucination' when she killed children, court hears

Warning: This story contains distressing details and discussion of attempted suicide

Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mum who has been charged with murdering her three children, was suffering from a "command hallucination" at the time, a forensic psychiatrist has told the jury in her trial.

The defence, which rested its case on Friday, does not dispute that Clancy carried out the killings but say she has pleaded not guilty to murder charges because she was experiencing postpartum psychosis.

Forensic psychiatrist Phillip Resnick, the defence's final witness, testified about the effects of postpartum psychosis.

Prosecutors, meanwhile, alleged she made a calculated decision to intentionally kill her children – Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, who was eight months.

Azerbaijan to help Uzbekistan develop mining sector

Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are strengthening economic connections, signing a variety of agreements covering mining, banking and tourism.

Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ali Asadov, presided June 16 over a signing ceremony in Tashkent of a cooperation agreement under which the two countries will jointly develop an Uzbek gold deposit as well as other mineral resources.

Ural Yusupov, Uzbekistan’s deputy mining minister, previously indicated that Tashkent was intent on conducting comprehensive surveys of precious metal deposits in the Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions, along with critical mineral deposits in Karakalpakstan and the Jizzakh region.

The Azerbaijani entity CJSC AzerGold will be the chief partner in developing the Uzbek gold deposit. It appears that Uzbek officials are interested in gaining experience in the processing and marketing of gold products. The Azerbaijani state-owned company bills itself as having experience in building “an integrated value chain for the exploration and development of ore deposits, production, processing and sales of precious metals.”

Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan Sign Documents in Presence of Both Countries’ PMs

Several documents have been signed between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, in the presence of both countries' Prime Ministers, Ali Asadov and Abdulla Aripov, in Tashkent.

The ceremony took place as part of Asadov’s working visit to Uzbekistan to attend the 5th Tashkent International Investment Forum at the invitation of the Uzbek side, The Caspian Post reports via Azertac.

The signed agreements cover the joint development of a gold mining project in Uzbekistan by AzerGold CJSC, enhanced banking cooperation between the International Bank of Azerbaijan OJSC and a partner financial institution in Uzbekistan, as well as collaboration on critical minerals projects involving NEQSOL Holding.

Can creatine help with menopausal brain fog? What about bone health for people over 40? Here's what science says about the supplement

Creatine is one of the most extensively studied supplements on the planet, with emerging research linking it to healthy aging, especially for menopausal and postmenopausal women.

While widely studied as an ergogenic aid for exercise — it can help enhance lean muscle mass, strength, performance and recovery — creatine may also improve cognitive functioning, helping combat menopausal brain fog, memory loss and mental fatigue. When combined with resistance training, studies suggest that creatine supplementation may support bone health by improving balance and muscle strength, thereby reducing the risk of falls.

From head to toe, there’s a lot going for creatine in the field of women’s health. However, like all supplements, it’s not a be-all, end-all cure for aging and menopause. Should you incorporate creatine into your routine? Here’s what science — and experts — have to say.

Fitness instructor explains three side effects that happen after going cold turkey on creatine

Eric Roberts opened up about the impact of no longer taking the supplement

A fitness influencer has answered some concerns about what might happen when someone comes off creatine.

Creatine is a natural substance that our bodies use to help our skeletal muscles, that's the ones which are anchored to bones, contract, which is quite important as we rely on this to be able to move our bodies.

However some people also take creatine supplements as part of a health and fitness regimen to help them with doing exercises.

Eric Roberts, who uses the name ericrobertsfitness on TikTok, took to the social media platform with a video answering one question that many people have about using the supplements as part of their routine.

The creatine supplement we’d recommend after weeks of testing

Although creatine can be found naturally in foods like seafood and red meat, and bodies replaces about 1 to 3 grams a day to keep usual creatine stores, if muscle growth is a priority for you, then you may need a helping hand with your consumption.

Creatine stands out as a highly reliable supplement for supporting muscle growth, with a large catalogue of research to back its effectiveness. A staple for both athletes and gym goers, the supplement boosts the energy your muscles can generate during short, intense efforts. This means you can lift heavier, push further, and make steady progress over time.

Trump may ask allies for help in Iran. Voters say that’s a good move

Washington | Nearly half of Americans and two-thirds of Republican voters say allies who publicly back a military operation should also send their own troops, according to a new poll that raises tough questions about how the Albanese government manages the US relationship during the war in Iran.

The survey of 1000 voters conducted by YouGov for the Australian strategic advisory firm Bondi Partners found 44 per cent agreed or strongly agreed with the view, while fewer than one in five (19 per cent) disagreed, putting the Albanese government’s posture at odds with many Americans. The balance was neutral (27 per cent) or unsure (10 per cent).

Ghost of Gallipoli: US warships cannot control the Strait of Hormuz

One factor should dominate global strategic policymaking today: that the Strait of Hormuz will re-open only with the consent of the Iranian government. No amount of US naval power can either force passage or safeguard transit.

So Raelene Lockhorst’s Strategist article on 9 March on the effect of its closure on Australia should be taken with deadly seriousness, now, by Australian policy makers.

On the surface, access through the Strait of Hormuz appears to be a naval challenge. And on the surface, the United States Navy has the upper hand. It has almost a fifth of its carrier fleet in the region—the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Gerald R Ford—plus a huge escort force. The US military can eliminate all Iranian maritime activity. To date, it appears to have sunk 30 Iranian vessels.

Weekend Box Office: Send Help Fends Off Surprising Challengers

Horror fans had their choice this weekend. One of the legends returned to his roots and had his best non-Marvel or storybook opening. A YouTuber adapted a video game and tripled its budget twice. Then a filmmaker returned after a decade to create a documentary about the current First Lady.

Director Sam Raimi has three Evil Dead films to his name, as well as three Spider-Mans, a Doctor Strange, and even a Wizard of Oz movie. Those latter five are responsible for $3.94 billion and change at the global box office. Much more of his storied career has been devoted to other genre and character-driven dramas, with his most successful among them coming with his return to horror in 2009 with Drag Me To Hell ($15.8 million opening, $42.1 million domestic, $90.8 million worldwide). His latest with Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien could prove to be a new high.

Samantha Baillie was on her first overseas trip when she was injured on December 27.

While details of the accident have not been disclosed, a fundraiser set up by a friend said she was in a critical condition, and another Australian she was with at the time had died.

Regional Queensland news presenter ROB BROUGH farewelled by 7 NEWS

The on-air acknowledgement aired at the end of the night’s news, where current presenter Nathan Spurling addressed viewers before a short montage of clips from Brough’s time with the network was shown.

Spurling thanked Brough for his commitment and contribution to Seven Queensland, marking the end of a lengthy tenure with the broadcaster.

“Rob’s been a familiar and trusted voice across Seven Queensland, and above all, our thoughts are with him and his family,” Spurling said.

The farewell comes after Brough was last seen presenting the bulletin around 15 months ago, having been on extended personal leave from his regular role across Seven’s regional Queensland bulletins, including the Sunshine Coast, Wide Bay, Central Queensland and Cairns.

    Breaking: Seven farewells Rob Brough

TV Blackbox reports that longtime 7News Queensland regional newsreader Rob Brough has been officially farewelled by the network.

Brough, who emerged from regional radio and appeared on the ABC and Nine in Brisbane before joining Seven, hosted Family Feud in the very late 1980s and early 1990s.

He was sacked from the game show without explanation and replaced by John Deeks. Years later, he told an interviewer: “They called me into Seven, nobody knew what was going on. Then management just said ‘we’re going to make a change’, and they didn’t tell me who was going to do it (host the show).”
