Between winning an Emmy for The Bear, being involved in the only good seasons of The Walking Dead, giving a tour-de-force performance in the underrated miniseries We Own This City, and becoming the definitive screen depiction of Frank Castle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Bernthal manages to make the most of any screen time that he is given, even if his roles are smaller.
Being cast as a troubled detective in the adaptation of the hit novel His & Hers seems like a role that fit Bernthal like a glove, especially when considering how many stern, authoritative anti-heroes he has played in the past. However, His & Hers is a much less straightforward mystery than it may seem, and the character of Jack Harper is by no means a stereotypical lead. Bernthal’s performance isn’t just essential to the unique approach of His & Hers, but helps it to hit on an even deeper emotional level.
