Pogacar holds off French teen to claim third straight Liège-Bastogne-Liège title

âIt means a lot to win again one of the biggest racesâ

The world champion, Tadej Pogacar, pulled ahead of the 19-year-old French debutant Paul Seixas in the final climb to secure his third straight LiÃ¨ge-Bastogne-LiÃ¨ge title on Sunday, his fourth overall victory in the race.

Pogacar finished the 259.5km race in five hours, 50 minutes and 28 seconds to win the 13th Monument title of his career and his third of the year after the Tour of Flanders and Milan-San Remo.

âIt means a lot to win again one of the biggest races of the year, of cycling â¦ thereâs a lot of pressure on me to deliver, Iâm really happy that we succeeded,â said Pogacar, who is now one LiÃ¨ge title short of Belgiumâs Eddy Merckx, who won the race a record five times between 1969 and 1975.

Liege-Bastogne-Liege: Tadej Pogacar wins third-straight title after thrilling Paul Seixas battle

World champion Tadej Pogacar triumphed in a thrilling battle with Paul Seixas to claim his third-straight Liege-Bastogne-Liege title in Belgium.

Slovenia's Pogacar finally broke free from Frenchman Seixas with 14km to go, on the final climb of the 260km race.

The 27-year-old finished in five hours, 50 minutes and nine seconds as he defended his crown to win the event for the fourth time.

Seixas, 19, finished 45 seconds behind and in front of Belgium's Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel, who was a further one minute and 42 seconds further back in third.

"It means a lot to win again one of the biggest races of the year," said Pogacar.

De Pasquale claims maiden Team 18 win for new Chevrolet homologation team

Anton De Pasquale has fended off a hard charging Brodie Kostecki to claim his first Team 18 win in another Sydney Saturday night thriller.

On tyres that were six laps older than those on the Shell V-Power Mustang in the final stint, with the 2023 champion applying immense pressure on the Camaro with a clear pace advantage.

However, De Pasquale was able to squeak home in a race that went right down to the wire, securing his first win in Team 18 colours in the squad's second race as Chevrolet homologation team.

The grid was set this afternoon with a top ten shootout, putting Anton De Pasquale in the No.18 DeWalt Chevrolet straight to the top with a 1:28.018 with Brodie Kostecki in the No.17 Shell V Power Mustang right next door.

Behind the two top spots were Matt Payne in the No.19 Penrite Racing Mustang and Ryan Wood in the No.2 Mobil 1 Toyota Supra making for an exciting race two.

Conditions were tricky throughout qualifying with the wet-dry weather threatening the drivers as they pushed the limits through each turn of Sydney Motorsport Park.

Going in to turn one on lap one, it was go time between Brodie Kostecki and Anton De Pasquale with the rest of the field behind eagerly chasing down the front of the pack, some flicking up dirt and finding themselves briefly off track .

You Am I formed in Sydney in 1989 at a time when Australian guitar rock was shifting under the influence of grunge and alternative music. Early shows featured covers of X, the Hard-Ons and Aerosmith as the young band searched for its own direction. Their first EP, Snake Tide, arrived in 1991 and captured a raw sound that hinted at the personal songwriting Rogers would later refine.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese led tributes to Aussie rock icons You Am I when the Sydney four-piece became the newest entry into the ARIA Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

You Am I, who formed in 1989, joined the likes of INXS, AC/DC, Cold Chisel and recent inductees Jet and Missy Higgins.

The band became mainstays of festival and pub stages across the country during the mid-1990s and were the first Australian outfit to have three consecutive albums debut at No.1 on the ARIA charts.

“Guys whether you’re in the studio, or on the stage, particularly the Enmore, you’ve been coming to us for decades with truth, with wit and vulnerability,” Albanese said via video, referencing the storied Enmore Theatre in his inner-west Sydney electorate of Grayndler.
