Sydney’s 2012 premiership coach John Longmire has declared he’s not interested in coaching either Carlton or Essendon.
Days after Tasmania appointed Ken Hinkley as their inaugural coach, Longmire told Fox Footy’s AFL 360 that business interests in New South Wales were his primary focus moving forward.
The five-time AFL grand final coach said he seriously looked at re-entering the coaching caper, but ultimately shied away.
“I said at the very start of this, a few weeks ago now, that these things becoming clearer over time,” said Longmire, who ended his long tenure as Swans coach in the aftermath of the 2024 grand final loss to Brisbane.

Sydney‘s 2012 premiership coach made it clear on Fox Footy on Wednesday night that he would instead remain committed to his role as the Swans’ executive director of club performance and his newly formed business.
Longmire was involved in the interviewing process for the inaugural Tasmania job but it went to former Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley.
“Looking back on it, I was asking more questions about them [the Devils] than they were asking about me,” Longmire told AFL 360.
“I think that told me more than anything, I guess, [about] where I sat. It was obviously told them but it also told me.

FORMER Sydney premiership coach John Longmire has ruled himself out of the vacant Essendon and Carlton head coaching roles after missing out on the Tasmania job.
Ken Hinkley was this week announced as the Devils' inaugural coach, with Longmire among the top candidates for the job alongside Nathan Buckley.
But after missing out on the role, Longmire told Fox Footy he "wasn't ready to coach" and plans to stay in Sydney to continue as the Swans' executive director of club performance and build his newly established business.
