Nuggets 122-109 Clippers (31 Jan, 2026) Game Recap

DENVER — — Nikola Jokic had 31 points and 12 rebounds in his first game in a month, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 22 points and the Denver Nuggets knocked off the Los Angeles Clippers 122-109 on Friday night.

Jokic, the three-time NBA MVP, missed 16 games after injuring his left knee in the first half of a Dec. 29 loss at Miami. The Nuggets went 10-6 during that stretch, which also included extended absences from starters Cameron Johnson and Christian Braun.

Jokic’s 29th double-double of the season came despite being on a minutes restriction imposed by coach David Adelman. The 30-year-old Serbian was limited to 25 minutes, his second-fewest in a game this season.

Denver superstar Nikola Jokic returned from a 16-game injury absence to post a 31-point, 12-rebound double-double on Friday and propel the Nuggets to a 122-109 NBA victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic had not played since suffering a bone bruise in the left knee he hyperextended in a game against Miami on December 29.

He led all scorers, connecting on eight of 11 shots from the field, and also handed out five assists with three steals while playing just 24:32 minutes as the Nuggets halted the Clippers’ winning streak at three.

OKLAHOMA CITY — — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 29 points and the short-handed Oklahoma City Thunder beat the New Orleans Pelicans 104-95 on Tuesday night to avoid their first three-game skid of the season.

Chet Holmgren had 20 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks for NBA-best Oklahoma City (38-10), which had lost back-to-back home games for the first time this season. Isaiah Joe added 17 points.

The Thunder were missing starters Jalen Williams, Isaiah Hartenstein and Cason Wallace and key reserve Alex Caruso with injuries.

Gilgeous-Alexander shot 8 of 22 from the field but went 13 of 14 from the foul line. He scored at least 20 points for the 118th consecutive game, the second-longest streak in NBA history.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the OKC Thunder will host Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans at 7 p.m. CST Tuesday.

OKC (37-10) fell short in a 103-101 home loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday. New Orleans (12-36) earned a 104-95 road win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.

Zion Williamson is a bruising forward. Trey Murphy III is a versatile scorer. Derik Queen is a skilled big man. And even Saddiq Bey is playing the best basketball of his career, averaging 20 points this month on 44.1% shooting from deep. New Orleans is a bigger threat than its 12-36 record implies, which it proved by earning a statement road win over San Antonio on Sunday. But this also feels like a statement game for OKC. A chance to show it can still win despite being extremely short-handed. And I think it'll deliver with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the way offensively and the defense still playing at its usual elite level.

WASHINGTON — — Peyton Watson scored a career-high 35 points to lead the short-handed Denver Nuggets to a 107-97 victory over the Washington Wizards on Thursday night.

Jamal Murray added 24 points for the Nuggets, who avoided their first three-game losing streak of the season. Jonas Valanciunas had 16 points in his return after missing 11 games with a strained calf. Aaron Gordon also scored 16 points.

Nikola Jokic missed his 13th consecutive game for Denver with a hyperextended left knee.

Kyshawn George scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Washington, which lost its eighth in a row. Tre Johnson added 19 points for the Wizards, who dropped 14 consecutive games from late October to early December.

A cross-conference matchup on Thursday's NBA schedule has the Denver Nuggets visiting the Washington Wizards. Denver (29-15) is coming off back-to-back defeats, including a 115-107 loss to the Lakers on Monday, which followed a four-game win streak. Washington (10-32) is mired in a seven-game losing streak, most recently falling 110-106 to the Clippers on Sunday, and that follows a 5-2 stretch for the Wizards. I’d never taken a proper solo vacation before this week, and I rather enjoyed having one. While visiting family for the holidays, I decided to reschedule my return flight and enjoy an extended layover in Paris (the city I was already connecting in) for a few days.

It was a nice trip! I’ve been to the city before, but not for well over a decade. I spent time wandering around, trying bakeries and restaurants and visiting a couple of museums. It was calming and restorative. I mostly got around by bus instead of metro so I’d be able to see more things, even if from a distance.

SALT LAKE CITY — — Brandon Miller scored 18 points, LaMelo Ball had 17 and the Charlotte Hornets built a 47-point lead in the first half of a 150-95 rout against the Utah Jazz on Saturday night.

The Hornets bounced back from a pair of frustrating losses in a big way, having fallen to Toronto by one point and Indiana by two in their last two games. Charlotte pounded the NBA champion Thunder by 27 in Oklahoma City before those defeats, previously the Hornets' largest victory of the season.

Tre Mann led the Hornets with 20 points in 12 minutes off the bench. Miles Bridges and Collin Sexton each scored 15 in a game Charlotte led by 57 in the second half.

The Utah Jazz will take on the Charlotte Hornets tonight in another major tanking game for Utah. After an excrutiating exciting win against the Dallas Mavericks, the Jazz are back to creeping towards losing their pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder. A loss tonight to the Charlotte Hornets would go a long way to helping them keep their pick. It’s a precarious position the Jazz are in now, and they can’t afford to be playing with fire anymore. Keyonte George and Lauri Markkanen are having impressive seasons, but the team has not won at a level that would make losing their pick defensible. At this point, the biggest success for Utah for this season will be putting themselves at the 4-spot in the lottery odds. If they do that, then we can all rest easy knowing that Utah will add one more high-level pick to this core and can go all out next season.

WWE SmackDown results, highlights (Jan. 9): Drew McIntyre dethrones Cody Rhodes in shocker; Jacob Fatu returns

WWE is back in Europe and delivered back-to-back big three-hour episodes of "SmackDown" to start 2026. Similar to this past Monday's "Raw," Friday's program in Berlin, Germany also featured three title matches, culminating in the much-anticipated Three Stages of Hell main event between Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre.

Among all the ways WWE could have done the right thing, I never expected it to unfold like this — but Drew McIntyre has dethroned Cody Rhodes to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.

The rivals' Three Stages of Hell match was about as WWE formulaic as it gets, starting with the opening singles match. Minimal time was given to that portion of that match, and it somewhat hilariously ended after McIntyre got the pin off a low blow missed by the ref, followed by a Claymore Kick. What's funny is how resilient we've seen Rhodes be throughout his career, especially in recent matches. The guy has survived far worse, yet that combo was just too much after all the emotional turmoil.

The road to Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia has taken WWE to Europe, for a tour that will include main roster television until the Jan. 19 Raw. The two Monday shows (from Düsseldorf, Germany and Belfast, Northern Ireland) will air live in the afternoon in the United States, as Netflix streams the show live from wherever it is. The two Friday shows (today, Jan. 9, from Berlin, and next week from London) will stream live on Netflix for most of the globe — but in the United States, both SmackDowns will air on tape in their usual time at 8 p.m. ET on USA in the United States. And that means spoilers will be available for folks in the U.S. who don’t want to wait (or download Stephanie McMahon’s VPN of choice).

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Carson Beck scrambled for a 3-yard touchdown with 18 seconds left, and Miami will head back home for a shot at its first national championship since 2001 after beating Ole Miss 31-27 in an exhilarating College Football Playoff semifinal at the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday night.

"It's the best feeling I ever had in my life," Beck said of the TD.

The 10th-seeded Hurricanes (13-2) had their vaunted defense picked apart by the sixth-seeded Rebels (13-2) in a wild fourth quarter, falling into a 27-24 hole after Trinidad Chambliss threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Dae'Quan Wright with 3:13 left.

The Rebels outscored the Bulldogs 20-10 in the fourth quarter in a 39-34 win.
