    How Lions skipper is following in Jim Stynes' footsteps

    Jim Stynes' widow, Sam Ludbey-Stynes, shares her conversation with Brisbane co-captain Harris Andrews ahead of the Demons' annual Jim's Game

    AHEAD of Melbourne's annual Jim's Game between the Demons and Lions on Sunday, in support of the Jim Stynes Foundation and celebrating the legacy of Demons great and former president, his widow Sam Ludbey-Stynes had the opportunity to engage in conversation with the recipient of the 2025 Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award, Brisbane co-captain Harris Andrews.

    Andrews will launch the Beyond DV Bursary, funded by the $40,000 grant awarded in the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award. 

    The discussion explored his work with young people in the domestic violence space — and why leadership in today’s AFL is as much about impact off the field as performance on it.

    Brisbane Lions Co-Captain, Harris Andrews along with Beyond DV has established a new bursary program to support young men through domestic and family violence situations.

    Brisbane Lions Co-Captain, Harris Andrews along with Beyond DV has established a new bursary program to support young men through domestic and family violence situations.

    Two young teens (who are unable to be identified) have been selected as the inaugural recipients with the boys showing astounding resilience through adversity and a desire to further themselves through sport and academic programs.

    The bursary follows Andrews being awarded the 2025 Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award for his community work to help create safer and respectful communities.

    Ahead of Round 6, this weekend’s clash between the Melbourne Demons and the Brisbane Lions marks both Jim’s Game, in support of the Jim Stynes Foundation, and the launch of Harris Andrews’ Beyond DV Bursary, funded through his 2025 Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award.

    Labyrinth review – Jim Henson and David Bowie make beguiling magic in charmingly eccentric 80s classic

    Jennifer Connelly plays a teenager having whimsical Alice in Wonderland-ish adventures in this 1986 family fantasy

    Revived for its 40th anniversary, this is one of the most beguilingly eccentric and charming family movies imaginable. Jim Henson’s fantasy adventure mixes human actors, unmistakably Hensonian puppet creatures, and one authentic legend who goes beyond either category: David Bowie as Jareth, the spikily coiffured king of the goblins, towering over the diminutive figures the way he might if he’d been a guest on The Muppet Show. He carries off this wacky role with absolute commitment and good humour.

    Labyrinth also features cherubic teen Jennifer Connelly as Sarah, a girl who is infuriated at being made to look after her baby half-brother Toby when her dad and stepmom are out for the evening. In a fit of loneliness and pique, influenced by a fairytale she has been reading called The Labyrinth, and perhaps unable to process the psychological reasons for her resentment of baby Toby, Sarah makes a spiteful wish that goblins take the infant away. This they do, and Sarah is faced with a daunting quest: she must somehow get through the labyrinth that surrounds Jareth’s castle and wrest the poor child from his awful grasp.

    When Jim Henson’s ‘Labyrinth’ was snubbed by the Oscars

    Forty years ago, Muppets creator Jim Henson released his final feature film, Labyrinth, a dark children’s fantasy about a teenage girl, Sarah Williams (Jennifer Connelly in her screen debut), who had to save her infant brother, Toby (Toby Froud), from the Goblin King, Jareth, played by rock legend David Bowie.

    Labyrinth wasn’t successful during its initial run in 1986 — a youth-skewing throwback adventure film populated by puppets failed to resonate with audiences in the age of Schwarzenegger and Stallone — but it has become such a beloved cult classic that it’s back in theaters this week to celebrate its 40th anniversary. While it’s heartening to see the film get its flowers now, it's easy to forget that Labyrinth was the victim of one of the more egregious snubs in Oscar history.
