    Pauline Hanson’s deleted post deepens One Nation’s migration muddle

    Pauline Hanson has deleted a social media post containing her immigration targets from just five months ago, plunging One Nation into a deeper state of confusion as its MPs contradict themselves and each other over the party’s signature policy platform.

    Hanson posted on X on Sunday to say her party’s policy was to cut net overseas migration to 130,000 people a year, after Farrer MP David Farley cast doubt on that target in a Sunday interview by saying it would inevitably be higher.

    New England MP Barnaby Joyce then backed Hanson on Monday morning, insisting the 130,000 net migration figure had been long-standing One Nation policy. “We’ve been saying that all along,” Joyce told Sunrise. “It’s 130,000 net overseas migration.”

    New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon says his government will seek to ban children under 16 from using social media, proposing fines of up to 10 per cent of a platform’s global revenue for non-compliance.

    New Englanders to get some answers from ‘King Rat’ Barnaby Joyce

    Barnaby Joyce will address his dramatic defection from the Nationals and his new political partnership with Pauline Hanson in an Australian Story episode airing on Monday night.

    Over a political career spanning more than 20 years, Mr Joyce became one of the National Party’s most recognisable figures and led the party three times. That all ended late last year, when he took New Englanders on a rollercoaster of quitting the party, then announcing his intention to quit politics, then announcing he was joining One Nation, then that he would run for the Senate.

    It was a shocking turn of events that was taken very hard by the ‘Barney Army’ who had just campaigned to re-elected, as well as many ordinary New Englanders who had voted for him.

    Former Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce denies seeking to lead One Nation

    Former Australian deputy prime minister and ex-leader of the National Party Barnaby Joyce said he does not intend to lead the One Nation party after joining it at the end of 2025. He said this in an interview with ABC News Australia.

    The 59-year-old Joyce represented the National Party for 20 years. He compared One Nation to Pauline Hanson’s fish-and-chips shop, referring to her business before entering politics, and stressed that the 72-year-old party leader should not fear that he is seeking her position.

    National Party leader David Littleproud, who replaced Joyce in the role in 2022, does not share these assurances. According to him, Joyce has never abandoned his desire to lead, regardless of which organization he belongs to.

    Alan Joyce: Qantas survived COVID because of my decisions

    Former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has claimed responsibility for the airline’s survival, three years after a series of customer-service outages and operational failures infuriated the public.

    Joyce acknowledged the airline’s dismal post-COVID recovery experience, a chaotic period marked by skyrocketing fares and illegal sackings, in comments broadcast on 60 Minutes. Joyce stepped away from the role two months early in 2023 amid political and consumer backlash.

    He said the hard decisions aided the company. “I think Qantas is in survival [mode] now because we got more things right than we got wrong,” he told 60 Minutes’ Tracy Grimshaw. “I recognise that when it comes down to it, the buck will always stop with the CEO on these things, and I accept that.”

    Most days start with a stroll along the Sydney Harbour foreshore with husband Shane Lloyd and his dog Milo.

    For 20 years, he was a corporate titan as the chief executive of Jetstar and Qantas.

    “After I left Qantas, I agreed with my husband Shane that I wouldn't work for a year,” he said.

    “The burden and the stress of all of those years, particularly the COVID years, really I think had gotten to me.

    Barnaby Joyce was about to answer a question on the ABC about whether he was comfortable with where his party leader, Pauline Hanson, was taking him, when he roared at a dog off-camera.

    It wasn’t clear how close the dog was or what it was doing to raise his ire, but the strange outburst proved the climax of a live nine-minute interview during which he claimed Channel Seven had suggested Hanson meet with British right-wing agitator Tommy Robinson, and appeared to suggest that One Nation could try to identify illegal immigrants using the medical system and parking fine data.

    Barnaby Joyce says Pauline Hanson does not support the White Australia policy but he has backed her support for “mass deportations” of those overstaying their visas.

    Hanson and her colleagues have spent days clarifying, explaining or walking back headline-grabbing parts of the One Nation leader’s trip to Europe, including a podcast interview with the far-right convicted criminal Tommy Robinson, her attendance at a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show and downtime by a hotel pool in Italy with the mining billionaire Gina Rinehart.

    SARAH FERGUSON, PRESENTER: Hanson has been in Europe for a few weeks. She gave a speech at a right-wing conference and lit up the internet with pictures of her poolside in Italy with Australian mining magnate Gina Reinhardt.

    BARNABY JOYCE, ONE NATION MP:  I don't know whether you do welcome me, but let's have a go.

    SARAH FERGUSON:  Well, do you endorse Pauline Hanson's enthusiastic pledge to bring far right extremist, Putin supporter, convicted criminal Tommy Robinson to Australia?

    BARNABY JOYCE:  Well, I think that the issue here is that first of all, the meeting with Tommy Robinson, I don't believe that it was a carte blanche case of that One Nation wanted that meeting. I think it was basically suggested by Spotlight, agreed to by One Nation. And of course, it made sensational viewing for those who wanted to basically get very upset.

    Joyce backs Hanson on mass deportations, denies One Nation wants return of White Australia policy

    Barnaby Joyce has denied One Nation supports the White Australia policy, while backing party leader Pauline Hanson’s call for mass deportations and suggesting illegal immigrants could be targeted when they seek medical treatment.

    Hanson’s approval of a far-right UK party’s deportation plan was broadcast on Seven’s Spotlight on Sunday night, as Joyce joined the cleanup of Hanson’s earlier remarks in which she said Australia’s woes began after the end of the White Australia policy.

    “We don’t support the White Australia policy. Let’s get that completely clear,” Joyce told Sunrise on Monday, after Lee Hanson blamed her mother’s lack of eloquence for her being “misunderstood”.

    One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce has defended party leader Pauline Hanson after she was spotted poolside with billionaire Gina Rinehart at a luxury Italian resort.

    The One Nation leader and mining magnate, who is a benefactor for the party, were snapped this week in the Sicilian holiday town of Taormina, made famous in season two of The White Lotus.

    “It’s a holiday, isn’t it? I mean, I don’t care if it’s Dolce Gabbana or Prada, as long as you’re paying for it, darling, I don’t care,” Joyce told Today.

    “A person’s allowed to have free time and she’s having free time over there.”

    The mining billionaire’s meeting with Pauline Hanson was preceded with serious working-from-anywhere.

    The photos of Gina Rinehart and Pauline Hanson’s secret Sicilian meet-up have predictably set off a mini volcano. Satirists at The Betoota Advocate have posted three separate stories (so far). Our favourite: HBO’s White Lotus Returns To Sicily For A Deeply Twisted Season 4.

    What is apt is the second season of White Lotus wasn’t only in Sicily, but based in the idyllic village of Taormina. The hotel used as a TV backdrop was the Four Seasons’ San Domenico Palace, located less than a 20-minute stroll to the $2000 per night Grand Hotel San Pietro – where Rinehart and Hanson met on the pool deck over the breakfast buffet.

    Aussie battler: Hanson joins Gina poolside on White Lotus holiday in Sicily

    One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has taken a break from her speaking tour of England to spend time with her benefactor, billionaire Gina Rinehart, at a luxury resort in Sicily.

    Photos posted to Instagram and first revealed in The Australian Financial Review show Hanson spending time poolside at the Grand Hotel San Pietro in the resort town of Taormina – where the second season of The White Lotus was filmed – while Rinehart swims in the pool.

    Rinehart was in Taormina for a fashion show put on by Italian label Dolce & Gabbana on Monday. Rinehart is known to wear the high-end brand, once making headlines by appearing at The CEO Magazine 2022 Executive Of The Year Awards in Sydney in $1600 bejewelled Dolce & Gabbana thongs.
