The Princess of Wales led the wreath-laying at the Cenotaph before joining a commemoration at Westminster Abbey, where she spoke briefly to some of the children attending the service.

Earlier on Saturday in London, Princess Anne laid a wreath at the customary dawn service at the Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner.

The ceremonies in Britain followed those at Gallipoli, where an estimated 1600 people gathered for the dawn service at the scene of the landings in 1915, with many people sleeping near the site overnight to ensure they could attend.

The Almost Famous star's celebrity parents were less indulgent than fans may imagine, Kate told Josh Horowitz, host of the Happy Sad Confused podcast. "I'm being really honest with you, I grew up in LA where I saw kids coast by with parents who gave them everything," Kate, 46, recalled. "And I had the opposite parents." Kate, who was raised by her mother, comedian Goldie Hawn, 80, and stepfather Kurt Russell, 74, acknowledged she and her brother Oliver Hudson, 49, grew up with wealth but insisted they were not handed the extreme indulgences she saw many of her school friends receive. "We were clearly privileged kids," the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star continued. "But I do think that my parents were so adamant about how none of it belonged to us, that we didn't earn it, that in order to get a life (comparable to the one) we were living, we had to earn it ourselves, that that would never be available to us unless we had the same kind of work ethic." Kate, who shares her surname with her biological father, musician Bill Hudson, explained this value system left her committed to making her own way in Hollywood. "I was like, 'No, I will never rely on my parents,'" she said. "And that was my big thing, like, 'I will never take a job because of them. I don't want anybody knowing they're my parents' … When I first started, I was so happy my last name was Hudson".

Winter Park woman finishes 8th in Olympic freeski halfpipe qualifiers

Svea Irving, 23, of Winter Park finished eighth in the Women’s Freeski Halfpipe Olympic qualifiers Feb. 19. She will advance to the finals on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 11:30 a.m.

Only the highest score was used to determine rankings; each competitor took two runs. Irving completed her first run with a score of 77.75, followed by a second run score of 80.75.

Great Britain, China and Canada took the top three spots at qualifiers. Great Britian’s Zoe Atkin finished first with a score of 91.50. In second, China’s Li Fangui received a score of 90.00. Third place went to Canada’s Cassie Sharpe, who scored an 88.25 on her first run before wiping out on her second run and being escorted off the halfpipe on a medical sled.

Song Sung Blue follows Claire and her husband Mike Sardina (Hugh Jackman) as they form a Neil Diamond tribute band while navigating some shocking life challenges.

“I remember reading [the script] for the first time and going, ‘Is all of this real?'” Hudson said, shortly after the nominations announcement. “I can’t even believe that one person has experienced this in their life.
