REITs, Institutional Capital, and Canada's Housing Future: Why Attracting Smart Money Matters

TORONTO, ON / ACCESS Newswire / March 23, 2026 / Canada’s housing crisis is well-documented: soaring construction costs, stalled development pipelines, and a chronic shortfall of new supply stretching from Halifax to Vancouver. While much of the policy debate has focused on zoning reform and government-led affordable housing programs, a quieter conversation is gaining traction among development leaders – one that centres on the role of Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and institutional capital in solving Canada’s most persistent urban challenge.

Ladan Hosseinzadeh Sadeghi, President & CEO of Sky Property Group Inc., is among those pushing this conversation to the forefront. With years of experience navigating the complexities of high-density residential development across the Greater Toronto Area, Hosseinzadeh Sadeghi argues that unlocking institutional investment is not just an economic opportunity – it is a housing policy imperative.

Canada's Construction Labour Crisis: How the Skilled Trades Shortage Is Reshaping Real Estate Development

TORONTO, ON / ACCESS Newswire / March 13, 2026 / Canada’s real estate development sector is facing a challenge that no amount of rezoning, financing reform, or government incentive can fully resolve on its own: a deepening shortage of skilled construction workers that is driving up costs, extending timelines, and threatening to derail the housing supply Canada so urgently needs. Industry leaders are sounding the alarm, and few are more direct about its consequences than Ladan Hosseinzadeh Sadeghi, President & CEO of Sky Property Group Inc.

“We can unlock land, we can secure financing, we can get the zoning approved – but if we don’t have the workers to actually build, none of that matters,” says Hosseinzadeh Sadeghi. “The skilled trades shortage is the single most underappreciated constraint on Canadian housing supply right now, and it deserves urgent national attention.”

Mac McClung News: Keeps rolling in G League return

McClung (ankle) tallied 27 points (8-21 FG, 2-10 3Pt, 4-5 FT), nine assists, three rebounds, one steal and one block in 33 minutes Sunday in the G League Windy City Bulls' 137-100 loss to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

After sitting out Friday's loss to the Cleveland Charge due to the right ankle injury, McClung jumped right back into the starting lineup in his return and dished out a game-high nine dimes. The 27-year-old guard also reached the 20-point mark for his 21st consecutive G League appearance. McClung is on a two-way deal with Chicago but is likely to continue seeing most of his opportunities with Windy City.

Mac McClung Erupts for G League Career-High as Bam Adebayo Drops 83

On Tuesday night, much of the basketball world focused on Bam Adebayo’s historic 83-point performance for the Miami Heat. But in the G League, another explosive scoring night quietly unfolded courtesy of Mac McClung.

Representing the Chicago Bulls’ G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls, McClung erupted for 54 points during a dramatic 127-126 overtime loss to the College Park Skyhawks.

The performance set a new career-high for the 27-year-old and established a new single-game scoring record in Windy City franchise history.

It also ranks as the third-highest scoring performance in G League history, trailing only Jordan McRae’s 58 points in 2016 and Alondes Williams’ 55-point effort in 2024.

Hope keeps Windies' door ajar in Christchurch

An unbeaten century from Shai Hope has given the West Indies reason to believe in a day five miracle in the first Test against New Zealand

A New Zealand team with a crowded medical ward has been unable to finish off West Indies on the fourth day of the first Test after setting the tourists 531 to win.

Shai Hope led the resistance on Thursday with his fourth Test century in an unbroken partnership of 140 with Justin Greaves which began when New Zealand captured four wickets relatively quickly in the second session.

At stumps, Hope was 116 not out, Greaves 55 not out and West Indies 4-212, trailing New Zealand by 319 runs in Christchurch.

    West Indies 167 and 212 for 4 (Hope 116*, Greaves 55*, Duffy 2-60) trail New Zealand 231 and 466 for 8 dec (Ravindra 176, Latham 145, Roach 5-78) by 319 runs

A depleted New Zealand attack – effectively reduced to just two-and-a-half frontline bowlers – was made to toil as a defiant West Indies rearguard stretched the contest into a fifth day on an increasingly docile Hagley Oval surface.

Forced off the field on day three by an eye infection, Shai Hope returned with sunglasses under his helmet to compile an unbeaten 116. It followed his first-innings 56 and marked his second century in three innings, a seamless extension of the defiance he showed while stonewalling India for long periods in New Delhi in October.
