ASEAN HYUNDAI CUP™ 2026 SEMI-FINAL 2ND LEG: THAILAND 1-2 SINGAPORE; THAILAND WIN 4-3 ON AGGREGATE

Thailand will play either Vietnam or Malaysia in the ASEAN Hyundai Cup™ 2026 final after Anthony Hudson’s side completed a 4-3 aggregate win over Singapore despite slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium on Tuesday.

Substitute Kakana Khamyok’s 61st-minute penalty, which came between a 45th-minute strike from Harhys Stewart and an own goal 20 minutes later by Pansa Hemviboon, was enough to ensure Thailand’s progress after their 3-1 first-leg win in Singapore at the weekend.

Thailand, seven-times ASEAN champions, will host the first leg of the final in Bangkok on Saturday and will face either defending champions Vietnam or Malaysia, who meet in the second leg of their semi-final in Hanoi on Wednesday with the Vietnamese holding a 2-0 lead.

Key Crows set to return, Nicks says 'ugly' win 'a good sign'

Adelaide had some nervous moments in its narrow win over Richmond

AFTER the ugliest of wins, Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks and his players had a collective wry grin.

"There were some smiles at the end, when you actually realise you get four points for that performance," he said.

    Nicks acknowledged Adelaide's slogging nine-point victory over cellar dwellers Richmond – 9.9 (63) to 7.12 (54) – was ugly.

"If you play that way and win, maybe it's a good sign," he said after the rain-marred Adelaide Oval fixture.

"That even when we're nowhere near our best – and that was ugly tonight, unfortunately – and yet we still got the job done.

Coach’s stark admission after narrowly avoiding horror loss

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks says he will “challenge” key players after club narrowly avoided a horror loss at home to Richmond on Saturday night.

Playing in wet and windy conditions, the Crows kicked two goals to one in the final term to come from behind and pinch four crucial points in the 63-54 win.

The Tigers sit 17th on the ladder and were given no hope of winning at the Adelaide Oval, but led for much of the third quarter and may have been in a stronger position if not for inaccurate goal kicking.

A high-profile team member at Mercedes had his last grand prix with the team in Hungary two weeks ago.

Outgoing driver development advisor at Mercedes, Gwen Lagrue, has shared his departing message after a decade at the team.

Lagrue was responsible for overseeing the junior programme at the Brackley-based squad, working closely with many figures including Kimi Antonelli and George Russell during their rise to F1.

RacingNews365 confirmed almost three weeks ago that Lagrue would be leaving the team to join Red Bull.

The news was made official by Mercedes last week, before Lagrue was named the director of the Red Bull Junior Programme – a position he will start in 2027.

Red Bull's latest signing could reveal much more about Max Verstappen's future claims Herbert

Johnny Herbert believes Red Bull’s Mercedes raid could be laying the groundwork for a future without Max Verstappen – Red Bull’s decision to recruit long-serving Mercedes talent chief Gwen Lagrue has prompted fresh debate over Max Verstappen’s long-term future, with former Formula 1 driver and FIA steward Johnny Herbert suggesting the appointment could serve two purposes.

While Herbert believes the move demonstrates Red Bull’s determination to rebuild around its star driver, he also argues it may represent contingency planning should Verstappen eventually leave the team.

Lagrue, who spent many years overseeing Mercedes’ junior driver programme, will take charge of the Red Bull Junior Team from the 2027 season. His arrival comes during a period of significant change at Red Bull, following the departures of several high-profile figures and amid ongoing speculation linking Verstappen with a future move to Mercedes.

F1 stars hail Red Bull's new Helmut Marko after surprise Mercedes exit

F1 stars including world championship leader Kimi Antonelli have paid tribute to Red Bull's new Helmut Marko as the highly-rated Gwen Lagrue officially says goodbye to Mercedes.

The 83-year-old Marko was a key part of Red Bull's glory years, acting as ace talent scout and driver whisperer while Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen each claimed four world championship titles.

But at the end of 2025, Marko left his role, just adding to a major talent drain which had already seen the likes of Christian Horner, Adrian Newey, Rob Marshall and Jonathan Wheatley depart.

One of the team's major challenges is restocking that talent pool, in part to persuade the aforementioned Verstappen to extend his stay with the team. If you didn't know (highly unlikely), his exit clause is now active and he could join a new team in 2027.

Melbourne and football boss Alan Richardson are parting ways after seven seasons with the veteran official at the helm.

Richardson joined the Demons in 2020 after he finished up as St Kilda coach and was a key figure in Melbourne’s drought-breaking premiership in 2021.

Two competition sources with knowledge of the situation, but who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed Richardson was leaving at the season’s end.

He informed key football department personnel in the past week that this season would be his last at the club.

Richardson was part of the group who told Simon Goodwin he was being sacked as coach last August after the Melbourne board decided to move on the coach.

‘I wouldn’t be going to Essendon’: Matthews slams Bombers; Lyon again eyeballs reporters in presser

Australian Football Hall of Fame Legend Leigh Matthews has taken a major swipe at Essendon, declaring anyone who has a choice wouldn’t apply for the Bombers’ vacant coaching role, and he would have no confidence in heading there under the current administration.

Matthews, a four-time premiership coach who also featured in three-straight grand finals against the Bombers as a player with arch-rival Hawthorn, declared he “wouldn’t be going to Essendon” if he was still a coach.

“From the outside I said, ‘Oh well, good luck’. If I was a coach, I wouldn’t be going to Essendon. If you desperately want a job, you just go for it, right? But, anyone who has choices ain’t going to Essendon,” Matthews told 3AW on Saturday.

Key forward rejects rival interest to pen long-term deal at Hawks

Mitch Lewis has signed a new four year-extension to remain in brown and gold

HAWTHORN has received a huge boost with key forward Mitch Lewis signing a new deal at the Hawks.

The free agent had received plenty of interest from rival clubs, but has signed a new four-year deal, tying him to the Hawks until the end of 2030.

The new deal for Lewis comes after veteran Jack Gunston signed a one-year extension to play on for an 18th season.

The focus will now turn to another free agent, Gold Coast spearhead Ben King, who has had interest from the Hawks and is yet to decide on his playing future.

Ben King set to leave the Suns for Hawks in a stunning about-face

Mitch Lewis is set to line up alongside Ben King in brown and gold next year, knocking back interest from other clubs to recommit to Hawthorn despite the recruitment of another key forward.

Clubs such as Collingwood had hoped that Hawthorn’s pursuit of King could’ve persuaded Lewis to have his head turned by rival offers. But two competition sources with knowledge of the situation, speaking anonymously, have confirmed the 27-year-old has told the club he will stay with the two parties putting the final touches on a long-term deal.

Hawthorn’s list management believes Lewis – an athletic marking forward – can play further up the ground, which would allow King to lead out of the goal square. The Hawks’ forward line will also include Jack Gunston for at least another season after the evergreen 34-year-old put pen to paper on a one-year deal. He has kicked 40 goals in 12 games so far this season, off the back of a career-high 73 last year.

Warriors confirm key half re-signing, another close to deal

The New Zealand Warriors are set to announce two re-signings in the coming weeks which will lock up their plans in the halves for years to come.

With Luke Metcalf to depart for the St George Illawarra Dragons after being granted a release set for the end of this year, it means Chanel Harris-Tavita, Te Maire Martin, Jett Cleary and Luke Hanson will be tasked with taking the club into the future.

With Hanson already linked to the Gold Coast Titans, and Harris-Tavita joining Martin on the off-contract list, there was a sense of urgency for the Warriors to get a couple of new deals over the line.

Chanel Harris-Tavita signs one-year extension to end of 2027

Chanel Harris-Tavita has stretched his stay with the One New Zealand Warriors to an eighth season after signing a one-year contract extension to the end of the 2027 NRL season.

The 27-year-old initially returned for his second stint with the club on a two-year deal for 2024 and 2025 before extending his contract by another season to the end of 2026.

Coming through the club’s system as a junior, the playmaker has enjoyed the best phase of his career since resuming his time with the club.

He has a 28-19 win-loss record (with one draw) in 48 appearances including a run of seven straight wins in his seven outings so far this season.

Cate Sayers wiped tears from her eyes during parts of an application in the Supreme Court of Victoria on Monday, as her estranged husband applied to have the defamation case brought against him by his ex-wife moved to a federal court, where the trial would proceed before a judge and not a jury.

“In this case, findings of fact will turn on credit,” barrister Matt Collins, KC, said on behalf of Luke Sayers, who did not appear in court on Monday.

Nep Vs Oma: 5 key factors shaping the ICC CWC League 2 ODI 100th match

The Nep Vs Oma meeting at Kirtipur arrives with a milestone feel that goes beyond one result. On 29 April at 9: 15 AM IST, the 100th match of the ICC CWC League 2 ODI 2026 brings Nepal and Oman into a contest shaped by form, table position, and conditions. Nepal enter with confidence after a win over the UAE, while Oman are looking to respond after a loss in which they were bowled out before the chase was complete. In a league where every point affects the qualification picture, this fixture carries unusual weight.

What makes Nep Vs Oma stand out is the timing. Nepal sit seventh and are trying to climb from that position at home, while Oman are third and aiming to protect their standing. That contrast turns this into more than a routine league match. It is also a test of momentum. Nepal’s previous victory over the UAE came by 37 runs, with Dipendra Singh Airee contributing a valuable half-century and Sandeep Lamichhane maintaining consistency with the ball. Oman, meanwhile, are coming off a defeat to the UAE after failing to chase 268 and finishing on 243 in 47. 5 overs.

Oman Vs Nepal as the ICC CWC League 2 milestone arrives

oman vs nepal is set for a notable checkpoint in the ICC CWC League 2 ODI 2026, with Match 100 scheduled for 29 April at 9: 15 AM IST at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. The timing matters because both teams enter with clear momentum questions: Nepal wants to build on a win, while Oman is looking to steady itself after a defeat.

This is more than a routine league fixture. Nepal sits seventh and Oman is third, which gives the game a different edge from a standard round-robin meeting. For Nepal, a home match offers a chance to close the gap in the standings and reinforce the value of familiar conditions. For Oman, the task is about protecting position and recovering rhythm after a loss to the UAE.

Nep Vs Oma at the 100th Match: What Changes When Nepal and Oman Meet Again

nep vs oma arrives at a clear inflection point: the 100th match of ICC Cricket World Cup League Two, with Oman having won the toss and opting to bat first at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on April 29, 2026, at 9: 15 AM IST.

That combination of milestone, venue, and toss outcome matters because both teams enter with something to prove. Nepal are looking to rise from seventh place, while Oman are in third and trying to regain momentum after a difficult outing against the UAE. In a short-format tournament where every result shapes the qualification picture, this is more than a routine fixture.
