Team selection: Key trio in for Derby

West Coast's final 23 has been confirmed ahead of Western Derby No.62

Important trio Elliot Yeo, Jamie Cripps and Milan Murdock are locked in to return for Western Derby No.62 at Optus Stadium.

Yeo and Murdock are both back from injury lay-offs, while Cripps was managed from the Gather Round clash against Geelong.

Midfielders Deven Robertson (knee) and Jack Graham (shoulder) have both been forced out of the team, while forward Matt Owies has been omitted.

West Coast leads the overall Western Derby record 33-28 and will be aiming to notch an upset on Sunday in front of their home crowd.

Eagles ruckman Williams relishes chance to take on Dockers’ ruck giants

West Coast ruckman Bailey Williams is facing one of the toughest tests of his career as he prepares to shoulder an immense burden in the biggest game of the Eagles’ season.

For Williams, western derby 62 will be all about trying to stop Fremantle’s dynamic and different ruck duo that threaten to be one of the biggest differences between the bitter rivals.

The Dockers have arguably the most talented and athletic ruckman in the game, Luke Jackson, whose form has been pivotal to their bright start to the season.

And they will unveil their trump card in former Collingwood cult hero Mason Cox in Sunday’s epic derby clash.

One Nation's Chantelle Thomas will retain her seat in Narungga. (ABC News)

One Nation has held on to the seat of Narungga after a count of missed votes.

On Thursday the electoral commission revealed hundreds of unopened ballots had been discovered, including 81 from Narungga.

The commission will review how the state election was handled while the government says it will commission an independent review too.

One Nation has retained the South Australian seat of Narungga, following a count of ballots that were missed on election day.

SA's electoral commission said had the ballots been included in the original count, One Nation's Chantelle Thomas's margin in the seat would have increased from 58 to 74 votes.

One Nation’s claim to the seat of Narungga has hit a snag weeks after the South Australian election.

Uncounted ballot papers were discovered on Thursday, forcing a new count in the Yorke Peninsula seat, which One Nation’s Chantelle Thomas won by just 58 votes.

More than 80 unopened papers have turned up, the state electoral commission has confirmed, offering a sliver of hope to the defeated Liberal candidate, Tania Stock.

Tribunal reveals key bit of evidence that led to guilty Butters verdict

The AFL Tribunal has delivered its reasoning behind the Zak Butters guilty verdict

THE AFL Tribunal has determined it is "implausible" that umpire Nick Foot would have 'invented' the comment that has seen Port Adelaide star Zak Butters fined for umpire abuse.

On Tuesday, Butters was convicted of using abusive and insulting language towards an umpire and fined $1500, with the Tribunal pointing to the midfielder's long history of sanctions as "relevant" to its findings.

"Mr Butters did not use expletives and while the offending comment was insulting and should not have been made, it can be described as a sledge made among other dissenting comments by players to Mr Foot which might have separately warranted a 50-metre penalty," the Tribunal said in a statement of its reasoning on Wednesday.

The AFL Tribunal says it is "satisfied to the requisite standard" the Port Adelaide midfielder abused umpire Nick Foot.

The tribunal says they felt it was "implausible that Mr Foot would invent the offending comment".

Port Adelaide says it will appeal the fine, saying Butters has been branded as a liar by the AFL Tribunal.

Port Adelaide has confirmed it will appeal the AFL Tribunal's finding that acting captain Zak Butters used abusive and insulting language towards an umpire.

Payne in the Haas for Rabbitohs as key spine star faces salary cap squeeze

The South Sydney Rabbitohs will welcome the game's best prop, Payne Haas, to the club in 2027, but it could cost them other players already at the club.

Haas, who will move from the Brisbane Broncos at the end of the current season on a seven-figure deal, has stretched South Sydney's salary cap to breaking point.

The Rabbitohs were already on thin ice in attempting to extend the contract of Keaon Koloamatangi, and while all that money went the way of Haas, they had to use extra to top up the Origin player's deal after he was attacked following Koloamatangi's signing with the Dragons.

EXCLUSIVE: Jordan Mailata tells the NRL to 'let them play' in piece of advice for cracking America

When the NRL moved its season opener to Las Vegas in 2024, ARL chairman Peter V'landys said the 13-man game was looking to expand the sport's audience in the US and tap into the country's growing legalised sports betting market.

Three years on, V'landys' gauge on what it takes to capture the attention of Americans has changed.

"It's going to take a lot longer than we thought it would," V'landys told The Sydney Morning Herald earlier this year.

Local rivalries are key for Wallabies as Super Rugby starts the new season full of hope | Angus Fontaine

Australia’s club sides can drive each other to greater heights in a year that will prove crucial ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup

The 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season kicks off this weekend and Australia needs its four provinces to make a stirring statement ahead of the 2027 home World Cup. No local side has won the men’s competition, or even made the final, since Michael Cheika’s NSW Waratahs upset now 13-time champions the Crusaders in 2014. If the Wallabies want to conquer the world, it has got to start with beating the neighbours.

The year after his Super triumph, Cheika took the Wallabies to the Rugby World Cup final (losing to New Zealand 34-17) and Rugby Australia will be praying for a repeat act in 2026. Ideally it’s the Cinderella story of Les Kiss leading the Queensland Reds to glory before he takes the reins from Joe Schmidt as Wallabies coach this July, a feat that would supercharge the Kiss era and ignite home fans before next October’s tournament.

Super Rugby Pacific 2026 Round One Preview

The 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season is finally here as the teams hunt for this year's title.

Once again, it's the Crusaders that will enter the season as the hunted after they defeated the Chiefs in last year's decider.

Brighton vs Everton: Key stats and talking points

Fresh from landing a blow on the best home team in European football in their previous away outing, Everton will look to continue their excellent record on the road at Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday (15:00 GMT).

The Toffees earned a superb 1–0 victory at Aston Villa – who had won 11 games in a row at Villa Park – a fortnight ago. They followed that up with a frustrating 1–1 draw at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday against Leeds United, although there were some reasons to be positive from that encounter.

Brighton are finding things to be a slog at the moment. Last week, they were beaten 2–1 by Fulham as their form continues to stall.

Hürzeler “confident we can outplay” Everton ahead of mid-table clash

Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler reinforced that his side are “really positive” despite picking up just one win in 10 ahead of their clash against Everton on Saturday.

The Seagulls suffered a late 2-1 defeat against Fulham last weekend, but have seen more success at home with just one Premier League defeat at the Amex this season.

Everton go into the fixture 10th, two places and three points above their hosts, and can put pressure on rivals Liverpool for their sixth-place spot or better with a win.

After a strong start to the campaign, sitting fifth in the table at the end of November, Brighton have struggled to turn draws into wins since.

Key numbers behind Indiana-Alabama — one of the unlikeliest Rose Bowls

You have reached ESPN's Australian edition. Stay on current site or go to US version.

Indiana coach Curt Cignetti talks about how he has motivated his team to fight hard in close games. (1:23)

Thursday's Rose Bowl Game Presented by Prudential will see No. 1-ranked Indiana face No. 9 Alabama in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals, a matchup that would have been nearly impossible to predict a decade ago.

Indiana enters the game with a 13-0 record, while Alabama is 11-3 after defeating No. 8-seeded Oklahoma on the road in the first round.

The Hoosiers haven't played since Dec. 6 — a 13-10 Big Ten Championship victory over then-No. 1-ranked Ohio State. It marked the program's first victory over an AP No. 1 team and outright conference championship since 1945. A week later, Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the Heisman Trophy, becoming the first Hoosier to win the award, which was created in 1935.

Indiana vs. Alabama live updates, score: Follow College Football Playoff action

Welcome to college football in 2025. Indiana is the No. 1 team in the country and favored by a touchdown over No. 9 Alabama in the Rose Bowl, which serves as a College Football Playoff quarterfinal.

And in a game that features the Heisman winner, not one person is surprised that player, QB Fernando Mendoza, plays for the Hoosiers and not the Crimson Tide.

Here’s how to watch all the College Football Playoff games (scroll for live updates).

It can’t be said often enough how Indiana made such a leap in Curt Cignetti’s first year and then got even better in his second year at the school. After a playoff appearance in 2024, Indiana simply beat everyone on its schedule in 2025.

Alabama vs. Indiana weather forecast: Rain expected for Rose Bowl

The Rose Bowl Game is one of the most iconic settings in sports, as the Southern California sunset hits the San Gabriel Mountains to create a beautiful New Year's Day visual as the game reaches its end.

However, it's not looking like that scenic moment will happen on Jan. 1, 2026.

The 2026 Rose Bowl features No. 1 Indiana taking on No. 9 Alabama in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup, and it will be a game unlike most with a storm coming as the new year begins. As a result, heavy rain is expected in Pasadena, California, which could not only ruin the views, but have a major impact on the game itself.

Budget 2025: key points at a glance

Rachel Reeves is announcing her financial update – here are the main points, with political analysis

The chancellor’s opening remarks were somewhat overshadowed by the fact that the Office for Budget Responsibility’s (OBR) assessment of her budget’s impact were accidentally published early, in an unprecedented gaffe that the shadow chancellor, Mel Stride, called “outrageous”.

As she stood at the dispatch box, Reeves opens by saying it was “deeply disappointing” and a “serious error on their part”, meaning the OBR.

“We are rebuilding our economy,” she says, pointing to trade deals with the US, India and the EU, planning reforms, an overhaul of the visa system and a change of fiscal rules to raise public investment to a four-decade high. She once again refers to the £22bn “black hole” in the public finances left by the Conservatives, saying that taxes on the wealthiest have helped close the gap and fund the NHS.

Henry Zeffman: Early release of Budget detail is totally surreal

Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch have gone through the motions of a Prime Minister's Question session before the Budget.

In response to questions from the Conservative leader, the prime minister said that it's "literally 25 minutes" until the measures will be unveiled.

The Budget is already out there, thanks to the Office for Budget Responsibility, which has published the details in error.

It caused a buzz in the Commons chamber, as Treasury Minister Torsten Bell – who was sitting behind Rachel Reeves – passed his mobile phone to the chancellor presumably to notify her of the news.

Reeves had also been looking at her own phone, and notes were being passed down the row of cabinet ministers.

Budget 2025: Key points at a glance

Everything you need to know following the Chancellor’s speech to the Commons

Rachel Reeves has delivered her Budget to the House of Commons.

Here, we’re summarising the key tax and spending policies that the Chancellor is announcing.

Some of the details were released early – by accident – by the Office for Budget Responsibility.

The total tax increases, by 2029-30, will amount to £26bn, with 920,000 more higher-rate taxpayers by that point.

That will mean a record tax burden of 38.3pc of GDP by the end of the decade.
