Noskova is beaming, as I imagine Martina is in the commentary box. “I just tried to be as patient as possible, tried to keep cool,” she says. “I focused on myself, on my game, when I play my best I know I can compete with the best players in the world. I was not watching a lot of tennis as a kid but I do remember when Petra [Kvitova] won here. I’m still in shock I had a chance in my life to play on such a court and get a win. Karolina [Muchova] is such a great player and fighter, but mainly she’s a great person, so I’m glad I get to play the final against her.”

Marta Kostyuk and Linda Noskova roar into their first Wimbledon semi-finals

A lot has been made of how open the women’s draw at Wimbledon is this year, even before the defending champion, Iga Swiatek, and the world’s top two, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina, all fell in the first week. But sometimes it pays to be aware of the in-form players, whoever they are, and so it was no surprise to see Marta Kostyuk and Linda Noskova march into the semi-finals.

Kostyuk, the Ukrainian 12th seed who reached the semi-finals at the French Open last month, crushed the 2024 runner-up Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-2 on Centre Court while the 21-year-old Noskova, seeded ninth, saw off Elise Mertens of Belgium 6-3, 7-5 to make it 10 wins out of 11 on grass this year.

Jasmine Paolini has ended the dream Wimbledon run of Alexandra Eala and dashed the hopes of a nation.

In the last eight the Italian will play Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk, who beat American Ashlyn Krueger 6-4 6-4.

Eala's march to the fourth round, after her shock victory over defending champion Iga Swiatek and earlier defeat of Australia's Maya Joint, had captured the imagination of much of the 120 million population of the Philippines.

Kostyuk breaks through for first WTA 1000 title in Madrid

Marta Kostyuk captured the biggest title of her career Saturday in Madrid, defeating Mirra Andreeva in straight sets to win the 2026 Mutua Madrid Open. It's the 23-year-old Ukrainian's third title and her first above the 250 level.

For the first time, Marta Kostyuk is a WTA 1000 champion. The 23-year-old from Ukraine defeated Mirra Andreeva 6-3, 7-5 in 1 hour and 21 minutes on Saturday to win the 2026 Mutua Madrid Open for the third title of her career and her first above the 250 level.

The victory capped a dominant week in Spain for Kostyuk, who entered as the No. 26 seed, but defeated the likes of Jessica Pegula, Linda Noskova and Andreeva en route to the title. It gives her back-to-back titles at the WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz level for the first time, following her triumph in Rouen a few weeks ago.

Preview & Pick: Mirra Andreeva or Marta Kostyuk to win the Mutua Madrid Open title?

Since the clay season started, the two finalists have been surging at the same time.

Did it feel as if Andreeva was 18 years old forever? Or at least for much longer than 12 months? Well, those days are finally over—she turned 19 earlier this week.

“I’m very excited for tomorrow,” she said the day before her birthday, “but at the same time I caught myself being a little bit sad. Because I don’t want to be old, and I don’t want to grow up. I want to just stay 18 and be a kid all the time.”

Anyone who starts her pro career at 15, the way Andreeva did, is bound to seem like a veteran at an early age. Just ask her opponent on Saturday. Kostyuk joined the tour at 13, and won two rounds at the Australian Open at 15.

Andreeva, who turned 19 on Wednesday, will face Marta Kostyuk after the Ukrainian beat ‌Anastasia Potapova 6-2 1-6 6-1 in the second semi-final.

WTA Brisbane Day 5 Predictions Including Amanda Anisimova vs Marta Kostyuk

There is a superb WTA schedule for Day 5 in Brisbane. Two-time Grand Slam runner-up Amanda Anisimova, Jessica Pegula, WTA Finals champion Elena Rybakina, and Paula Badosa are all set to play. As always, we at LWOT predict all the action in our articles. Mirra Andreeva vs Linda Noskova is among the matches predicted in a separate article.

Sasnovich will almost certainly use the same style as she did in her previous match against Clara Tauson. She frustrated the powerful Dane from start to finish by focusing on putting balls into the court and extracting unforced errors. Samsonova is notoriously inconsistent, making her level harder to predict. If Sasnovich plays as well again, her game is suitable for disrupting Samsonova if the No. 10 seed does not execute perfectly.
    Prediction: Sasnovich in 3

Tennis, WTA – Brisbane International presented by ANZ 2026: Kostyuk eliminates Putintseva

Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 16 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the Brisbane International presented by ANZ by winning against Kazakh lucky loser Yulia Putintseva 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-0 on Wednesday.

Kostyuk, ranked No 26, will play the winner of the match between Australian wildcard Kimberly Birrell and American Amanda Anisimova, the second seed, next.

In the previous round, Putintseva, ranked No 74, beat American Hailey Baptiste (6-2, 6-4).
