Legendary Sri Lankan singer Nanda Malini passes away
Veteran Sri Lankan singer Nanda Malini has passed away at the age of 82, according to family sources.
Family sources further said that she passed away at her home in Nawala.
Nanda Malini, born on August 23, 1943, in Lewanduwa, Aluthgama, displayed her singing abilities from a young age.
She has gained praise and popularity and won eleven Sarasaviya Awards and eight Presidential Awards for Best Singer.
She moved to Kotahena in Colombo as an adolescent and was admitted to Sri Gunananda Vidyalaya, where she came under the tutelage of T. N. Margaret Perera. After winning a poetry contest, Malini was taken to Radio Ceylon by Perera and sang “Budu Sadu” on Karunaratne Abeysekera’s popular programme Lama Mandapaya.
Final rites of late Nanda Malani to be held on Saturday
Colombo, Aug. 20 (Daily Mirror) – The final rites of the late veteran Sri Lankan singer Visharada Nanda Malani will be held on Saturday, August 22, at the Borella General Cemetery, according to Professor Sunil Ariyaratne.
Her remains will be kept at her residence on Wijayaba Mawatha, Nawala, from 10:00 a.m. tomorrow, allowing members of the public to pay their final respects.
Religious observances will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, after which the funeral procession will leave for the Borella General Cemetery.
Professor Sunil Ariyaratne said the family has decided to honor Nanda Malani’s final wishes by holding the final rites at 5:00 p.m. at Borella Cemetery, without an official or special state funeral ceremony.

The remains of veteran Sri Lankan singer Nanda Malini will be kept at her residence on Wijayaba Mawatha, Nawala, from 10 a.m. tomorrow (21).
Following religious rites at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday, her remains will be taken to the Borella Cemetery for cremation.
