Because the show is titled simply after its protagonist’s name, Ted Lasso didn’t necessarily have to remain a series about an American coach leading a British soccer team. It’s possible, if unlikely, that this fourth season might have followed Ted around as he worked in the grocery, attended his son’s soccer games, helped his mom move, etc. But a series’ identity goes beyond its name, and with “Curiouser and Curiouser!” the season returns to familiar Ted Lasso territory after the previous episode’s prologue/catch-up session/Kansas City travel guide. But not everything looks the way it used to. There are a lot of new faces; some old, familiar faces are nowhere to be found; and some of those that did return have new jobs.

LONDON — Tanya Reynolds had never watched an episode of “Ted Lasso” before she was approached to audition for the fourth season of the Apple TV comedy. But the British actor sent in a tape anyway.

“It was just one scene and it was really funny,” Reynolds says. It’s a busy Saturday morning in central London and we’re huddled in the basement of an equally busy coffee shop. Reynolds, 34, seems surprisingly relaxed considering today marks the final two performances of “1536,” a play she’s been starring in at the Ambassadors Theatre since early May. She’s still incredulous that anyone would think of her to play Alice Chilton, a coach for A.F.C. Richmond’s new women’s team, the latest addition to the series.

Ted Lasso's Tanya Reynolds Unpacks Alice's Feelings Toward Rebecca — Plus, Why Is Rebecca Keeping Keeley In The Dark?

There's some new blood in Richmond's ranks — and we're not just talking about the Lady Greyhounds.

Among the new additions is Alice Chilton (played by "Sex Education" alum Tanya Reynolds), a character first referenced in Episode 1, when Higgins informed Rebecca that she'd thrown her hat in the ring to manage the women's team.

"Coach Chilton? I don't think she likes me very much," Rebecca remarked, to which Higgins responded, "Oh, it's not you. She doesn't like anyone."

"Wonderful," Rebecca replied. "So if Ted says no, and we can't hire a growling rottweiler, there's always Alice Chilton, waiting in the wings, growling even louder."

Kansas City landmarks help tell 'Ted Lasso' origin story in new season premiere

Kansas City actor Nedra Dixon delivered just one line in the first episode of the newest season of Apple TV’s “Ted Lasso,” but it was an important one.

She was tasked with yelling the iconic Gates Bar-B-Q greeting: “Hi, may I help you?” She also was on-site at the Gates midtown location nearly the entire day when she was brought in to film last summer.

“I was called at 6 a.m. and I didn't get home until 11:30 that night. For the … three minutes of time that you see in the outcome, it takes a long time,” Dixon told KCUR’s Up To Date.

'Ted Lasso' Season 4 Women's Soccer Team: Meet The Players

Season 4 of Ted Lasso involves the central football and now soccer coach taking on a whole new challenge of elevating a Division 2 women’s football team across the pond.

Just as with the men’s team Ted bonded with over three seasons of the Apple TV comedy series, the Lady Greyhounds have their own characters, cliques and dynamics to face as individuals and as a team. Ted desperately needs help from the meticulous Alice Chilton (Tanya Reynolds) and the strategic and emotionally sensitive Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) to navigate these wrinkles.
