Off-Broadway Lions: Zorko a fan of Gather Round's local grounds

While they won't be on the main stage of Gather Round, Brisbane's Dayne Zorko is looking forward to playing in the Barossa Valley.

Since the beginning of Gather Round in 2023, the Lions have been the most successful side in the competition, having made the last three grand finals, resulting in two premierships.

Despite their success, they have not featured at Adelaide Oval during Gather Round, having played at Norwood Oval and Mount Barker, with an average attendance of 8,536.

2026 proves to be no different as they’ll play North Melbourne at Barossa Park, marking their third venue in four years of SA's football festival.

Arco is a colourful trip in the near future. (Supplied: Kismet)

The colourful world-building in French illustrator and director Ugo Bienvenu's delightful sci-fi and coming-of-age animation is otherworldly yet timely. Ten-year-old Arco is from the year 3000, a peaceful future where humanity lives among the clouds while Earth slowly heals below.

Impatient and mischievous, he swipes his sister's rainbow time-travel suit and accidentally travels back to 2075, a world battered by constant fires, rain and ferocious winds and homes shelter beneath protective bubbles — a prediction for our future?

Ryan Gosling on blending humour and sci-fi in new film Project Hail Mary

Humour and science fiction may not seem obvious bedfellows but a history of cinema will tell you different. Think Spaceballs, Mars Attacks! and Everything Everwhere All At Once to name but a few. And now Ryan Gosling is hopping on board.

The 45-year-old is both the lead actor and producer of Project Hail Mary, a space adventure film based on the 2021 Andy Weir novel of the same name.

While Gosling has showcased his comedy chops in films such as Barbie and Nice Guys, he tells the BBC he's "always struggled as an actor because I would want to bring humour to something" but has found opportunities to be funny limited with some projects.

Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson are back in contact almost three weeks after he delivered a belittling tirade against her on live radio that put their show in mortal peril, sources close to the controversial broadcaster have said.

Sandilands has six days left to fix what the station described as his “serious misconduct”, in which he berated Henderson to the point where, according to their ultimate employer ARN, she could no longer work with him.

This masthead has previously reported that would require him, while suspended from work, to regain Henderson’s willingness to partner with him again on their Kyle & Jackie O Show at radio station KIIS FM.

He was taken off-air for "an act of serious misconduct" on his and Jackie "O" Henderson's Kyle and Jackie O Show on KIIS FM.

Sandilands is pushing for his return to radio, claiming ARN Media terminated Henderson's contract on the same day it accused him of a breach.

One of sports greatest fallacies is that Steven Bradbury did not deserve his 2002 Olympic gold medal. He had paid for it in blood. (Getty Images: Clive Mason)

American skater Apolo Anton Ohno leads the field as they cross the finish line for the penultimate time, covering the inside line heading into the final corner.

He heads a quartet of tightly packed skaters, all sweeping around the top bend of the tight, 111m-long Salk Lake Ice Centre short track speed skating venue.

A fifth competitor skates alone behind that four, Steven Bradbury, an Australian, at 28 the oldest man in the field, skating within his limits, unable to match the younger skaters' acceleration in these closing stages of the 1,000 metres.

A chance encounter with Rod Laver, a trifecta of on-court marriage proposals and a straight-sets passage into the Australian Open quarterfinals gave Carlos Alcaraz plenty to report when recapping his day to his family back home on Saturday.

The Spaniard reached his third straight Melbourne Park quarterfinal following a 7-6(6) 6-4 7-5 victory over Tommy Paul to keep his bid for a career Slam on track and if a good omen was needed before the clash, a meeting with the legendary Laver beneath the arena bearing his name was it.

Carlos Alcaraz serves up lesson with Australian Open dismissal of Paul

Carlos Alcaraz spent the final 52 minutes of his fourth-round match chasing down his prey, determined to convert his two-set lead into a straightforward win against Tommy Paul.

As he worked hard to secure the decisive break in set three, the Spaniard put together a flawless serving performance. He won 86% of his first‑serve points in the set, landing 76% of his first serves. He did not even come close to facing a break point, losing just five service points in total. The world No 1 closed out his win against the 19th seed with an unreturned serve. He will play the Australian Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals.

Relief at last for England as Root leads Colombo win

Coach Brendon McCullum has overseen his first away ODI win for England with Joe Root steering them to a much needed five-wicket win in Sri Lanka

England have won their first away ODI under Brendon McCullum as Joe Root led them to a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Colombo to level the three-match series.

Since adding the white-ball position to his Test role in January 2025, McCullum had overseen 10 ODI losses in a row on England's travels.

The tourists knew a second defeat in Colombo in three days on Saturday would ensure they had won only one of their last eight 50-over series, but they produced a strong all-round display to make it 1-1 ahead of Tuesday's decider.

‘Worst pitch I’ve ever played on’: England unleash SIX spinners in ‘shocking’ 41-year first

Joe Root produced a batting masterclass on a turning track to steer England to a hard-fought five-wicket win over Sri Lanka, squaring the three-match ODI series in Colombo on Saturday.

With their backs to the wall and defeat meaning curtains for the series, Root played the anchor to perfection, crafting a gritty 75 as England crossed the line with 22 deliveries to spare.

“Nice to get a win on a very difficult surface,” said Root.

“The key when you come here is to play as late as possible. To be brutally honest, it wasn’t a great wicket for ODI cricket. But we adapted well and learned from the mistakes in the first game.”

Root and Rashid steer England past Sri Lanka in second ODI to end barren run

2nd ODI: Sri Lanka 219; England 223-5. Eng win by five wkts

Root hits 75 but says pitch not ‘great wicket for ODI cricket’

It’s been a rough few years for England’s 50-over side but the glow of their World Cup victory has not completely disappeared. Joe Root and Adil Rashid, both part of the 2019 class, were the headliners of the second one-day international against Sri Lanka, setting up a five-wicket victory to level the series.

Rashid led the England attack on a serious turner, taking two for 34 as Harry Brook used 40.3 overs of spin, limiting Sri Lanka to a total of 219. It was still a proper challenge, particularly in a must-win game for the tourists, their winless run away from home in ODIs having stretched to 11 on Thursday.
