5 Years Later, Harlan Coben’s 8-Part Netflix Thriller Remains a Perfect One-Night Binge

From the stressed-out doctors saving lives on The Pitt to the determined detectives solving crimes on NCIS, most TV shows follow some kind of formula. That can be nice and comforting, as we all make small and big decisions every day, meet life milestones, and deal with a lot of information overload and feeling overwhelmed. That's also why many of us are invested in Harlan Coben's storytelling. When you start watching one of his many Netflix thrillers, you assume it will tell a story about family and love and feature some big reveals along the way. I want to talk about one of the best ones, and it has every element you want from a Coben series.

Netflix's Biggest Crime Drama Of The Year Has A Surprisingly Low RT Score

With the sheer volume of TV shows Netflix releases every year, any series that rises to the top is worth taking note of, which makes it especially shocking that the streaming platform's #1 crime drama of 2026 has such a low Rotten Tomatoes score. Netflix has myriad series of every genre, but they are truly a crime drama lover's paradise, with critically acclaimed series like Mindhunter and Ozark, British shows like The Gentlemen and The Bodyguard, and multiple Harlan Coben adaptations.

The latest Coben novel to get the Netflix treatment is I Will Find You. Premiering on June 18, 2026, I Will Find You centers on David Borroughs, an innocent man wrongfully convicted of murdering his son, Matthew. Five years into his prison sentence, David learns that Matthew may still be alive, and he breaks out of prison to find out the truth once and for all.

Five years and $122m later, North Sydney Olympic swimming pool has finally reopened. Was it worth the wait?

The famous art deco pool has taken so long to renovate that some lifelong patrons died waiting. On Friday, its lanes were once again filled with swimmers

On a sunny Sydney Friday afternoon, a group of extremely athletic people in sailor costumes float merrily across a stretch of water, encased in inflatable spheres. On land, similarly dressed athletic people slowly pull them along with strings as the performers strike acrobatic poses and wave to passersby.

In the background is Sydney Harbour, its famous bridge and the Opera House. To the right, Luna Park’s iconic gates and a ferris wheel.

Sydney can change while preserving its treasures

I have long felt a sense of unease about the renovation of North Sydney Olympic Pool. It was less about the astronomical budget ($122 million) and five-year closure – although this has certainly concerned many of our readers – than about what the wrecking ball might do to this art deco treasure, which I have always considered one of Sydney’s most beautiful public facilities.

My attachment is unashamedly emotional: North Sydney was my childhood pool. I remember racing down the iconic staircase to get to squad training, eating red icy poles on the pool deck and cheering from the grandstand at school swimming carnivals. We’d leap from the diving boards, nag Mum for a coin for hot showers, and swim beneath the “bubble” (a strange temporary tent) in winter. I loved it for its beauty, its familiarity and its sense of history. I didn’t want it to change.

Warning: major spoilers for the finale of Daredevil: Born Again season 2

After two seasons of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) ruling New York City with an iron fist, the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finale concluded in a monumental courtroom episode. With Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) on trial for aiding Daredevil’s vigilante efforts, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) decides that the best way to help her is to reveal himself as Daredevil. He is soon arrested for the crimes of his superhero alter ego, but not before he and an angry mob of New Yorkers successfully demand Fisk’s resignation.

A Big Marvel Hero Returned on ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Finale

Note: This post contains SPOILERS for the Season 2 finale of Daredevil: Born Again. Don’t want to be spoiled? Don’t read. Go watch the show. Or go outside. Live your life. Just don’t yell at us.

The season finale of Daredevil: Born Again brought some major changes for Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, and the rest of the show’s cast. But for hardcore Marvel fans — especially the ones who loved Netflix’s Marvel TV shows — the biggest news was arguably the return of a character who hasn’t been seen since 2019.

Cage, played by Mike Colter, briefly returned to the role in the Season 2 finale “The Southern Cross.”

Why anarchist thriller V for Vendetta, 20 this month, is as relevant as ever

Political dissent, societal control, a devastating virus: 20 years on, V for Vendetta looks less like a film than a prescient warning

.css-1mniedq{color:inherit;font-weight:inherit;font-size:inherit;font-family:inherit;line-height:inherit;}This is the latest instalment in our From the Vault feature series, in which we reflect on culturally significant movies celebrating notable anniversaries.

As a movie, V for Vendetta is far from perfect. But viewed today, 20 years after its cinema release, its existence feels nothing short of miraculous.

In the aftermath of 9/11, Hollywood studios were reluctant to make anything that could be considered politically incendiary. A few years later, however, films such as War of the Worlds (2005) and United 93 (2006) began to grapple with that terrible legacy.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple review – Ralph Fiennes is phenomenal in best chapter yet of zombie horror

A murderous Clockwork-Orangey gang take on the zombies in this gruesome and energised fourquel. It’s the finest of the 28 franchise by a blood-curdling mile

It’s very rare for a fourquel to be the best film in a franchise, but that’s how things stand with the chequered 28 Days Later series. In this one, which follows immediately on from the previous episode, 28 Years Later, Ralph Fiennes and Jack O’Connell bring pure death-metal craziness. There is real energy and drama in this latest iteration of the post-apocalyptic zombie horror-thriller saga, created by director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland back in 2003, with Nia DaCosta taking over directing duties for this film. Fiennes’s dance to Iron Maiden’s The Number of the Beast is basically one of the most extraordinary moments of his career. At the screening I attended, we were on our feet, looking for a speaker bin to headbang into. The band surely has to rerelease this track with Fiennes’s performance as a new official video. His Voldemort was never so freaky.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple First Reviews: Dark, Thrilling, and Powered by Standout Performances

Quickly following up on last summer’s hit sequel 28 Years Later, the latest film in the 28 Days Later franchise arrives in theaters this Friday, and the first reviews are now online. Titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, this fourth installment is again written by Alex Garland, but Candyman director Nia DaCosta is now at the helm for a direct continuation of the events seen at the end of the previous movie. Her work is being praised, as is the performance by returning actor Ralph Fiennes. Fans of the franchise will not be disappointed.

Here’s what critics are saying about 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple:

An Apocalypse Film That Will Prompt Wild Cheering

The sequel to 28 Years Later offers an optimistic twist on a nihilistic genre.

It’s the oldest, creakiest trope in the zombie-movie storybook: You know who’s scarier than decaying, flesh-eating monsters? The people they’re chasing! Every legendary entry in the genre, be it Night of the Living Dead or the never-ending Walking Dead franchise, has dug into this concept at some point. After all, it’s just as terrifying to imagine how the survivors of societal collapse might behave toward one another as it is to envision them beheading the undead. So it’s especially impressive when a movie about the undead somehow finds a new angle on such a well-worn premise. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, in theaters this week, does just that, finding a reason to be hopeful, rather than fearful, for postapocalyptic humanity.

‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ To Scare Off Na’vi From No. 1 With $20M+ MLK Opening – Box Office Preview

UPDATED, 11 AM: So Sony’s 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is still looking at a $20M+ 4-day opening at 3,400 sites in North America, finally unseating 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: Fire and Ash from No. 1 in its 5th frame. That movie is looking like $18M-$19M over the MLK holiday weekend.

Previews for Bone Temple start at 2 p.m. Thursday in 2,900 sites. Avatar 3 still has the Imax theaters and majority of PLFs, while the Infected (don’t call them zombies) have some PLF screens.

The best heat in first choice for Bone Temple is from guys over 25. The movie’s temperature on tracking in first choice is about as hot as New Line’s Evil Dead Rise ($24.5M in 2023) and Focus Features’ Nosferatu ($21.6M 3-day in 2024) and way hotter than Paramount’s Primate ($11.1M opening last week). 28 Years Later benefited from previews on Juneteenth, which propelled the Danny Boyle horror threequel to a $30M opening last summer — one of the best for horror in 2025 — and a domestic of $70.4M, global of $151.3M. Production cost of Bone Temple was $63M net, while 28 Years Later was $60M net before global P&A spend.

The Alpha Zombie Returns: Chi Lewis-Parry on Adding Depth to Samson in ‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ and Why Dancing With Ralph Fiennes Was ‘The Most Fun I’ve Had Naked’

There’s a scene in “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” Nia DaCosta’s quick-fire sequel to last year’s horror franchise returnee “28 Years Later,” that’ll likely raise more than a few laughs in cinemas.

On top of an English hill, surrounded by woods — and potential danger — Ralph Fiennes‘ blood-and-iodine-smeared skull collector Dr. Ian Kelson sings Duran Duran’s sun-drenched ’80s smash “Rio” while dancing hand-in-hand with Samson, the film’s hulking, mutated and entirely nude lead Alpha zombie.

It’s a peculiar, not to mention hilarious sight, not least for a gory genre film. But for anyone who saw Sony Pictures’ “28 Years Later,” the scene marks a remarkable development for Samson — played by 6’8″ actor and former MMA fighter Chi Lewis-Parry — best remembered as “King of the Infected” in the first outing and a ferocious monster with a penchant for ripping heads off with spines still attached (and then swinging them about like a flail). DaCosta’s movie — in cinemas Jan. 16 — is a wholly different beast to Danny Boyle’s, with wildly new characters and storylines, but it’s the personal growth of Samson — and his budding bromance with Dr. Kelson — that offers one of its main talking points.
