    Premier League Predictions: Gameweek 24

An enthralling end to the Champions League and Europa League league phase took centre stage midweek but attention now returns to the Premier League this weekend.

There are some enticing fixtures on the horizon, too. Saturday offers Arsenal the chance to respond to last weekend’s disappointment, while also serving up a London derby and one of the Premier League’s most consistently dramatic fixtures.

Sunday’s schedule is no less tame with Manchester United attempting to continue their purple patch under Michael Carrick and their city rivals travelling to north London for a potentially critical contest in the title race.

Premier League predictions: Tottenham vs Manchester City, Liverpool vs Newcastle and rest of matchday 24

Welcome to week 24 of The Athletic’s Premier League predictions challenge, where the readers’ resurgence continues.

From what looked like a hopeless position just a few weeks ago, the subscribers are now off the bottom of the table and gearing up for a potential title challenge.

After matchday 20, you lot were 25 points off the top. That deficit is now down to 10 points after Tottenham fan Nikhil followed Newcastle supporter Hannah by hitting the week’s highest score.

Nikhil got Manchester City’s 2-0 over Wolves spot-on and another four correct results, as well as picking up two bonus points along the way.

Champions League, oggi Napoli-Chelsea: orario, probabili formazioni e dove vederla in tv e streaming

Ecco orario, probabili formazioni e dove vedere Napoli-Chelsea in tv e streaming.

Napoli (3-4-2-1) Milinkovic-Savic; Beukema, Buongiorno, Juan Jesus; Di Lorenzo, Lobotka, McTominay, Spinazzola; Vergara, Elmas; Hojlund. All. Conte

Florian Wirtz's start to life in the Premier League has been a slow burn – but the signs are starting to show that we must start paying attention to him across the prop markets.

The early weeks after his £116m summer move from Leverkusen were awkward. New league, new tempo, new expectations. All that jazz.

Bournemouth v Liverpool: Premier League – live

Almost by stealth, Liverpool have put an unbeaten run together of 13 games. The 4-1 humbling by PSV was their last defeat in any competition.

There’s been plenty of late drama in the Premier League so far today. These are all full-time results:

Nobody has scored more goals against Bournemouth in Premier League history than Mohamed Salah. He’s got 12 in 12 games against them, including two last season in Liverpool’s 2-0 win at the Vitality. The mood was a little different this time last year.

And he got the fourth in that thrilling 4-2 win at Anfield on the opening night of this season after Federico Chiesa, who misses today’s game through injury, scored late on.

Liverpool resume their Premier League commitments, as they travel down south to face Bournemouth on Saturday evening in a push to consolidate their place within the league's top four.

Liverpool come into the game on the back of a 13-game unbeaten run — the latest of which was an impressive 3-0 away win in the UEFA Champions League against Marseille, in a game that saw Mohamed Salah return to the Liverpool starting lineup for the first time since late November.

In their last Premier League match, Liverpool played out an uninspiring 1-1 draw at Anfield, as they couldn't further their advantage following a Florian Wirtz goal in the first half, with Marcus Edwards equalising for Burnley midway through the second half.

Villarreal vs Ajax: UEFA Champions League stats & head-to-head

Ajax have now won back-to-back matches, having lost their opening five Champions League games

Ajax scored a late winner as they came from behind to beat Villarreal and keep alive their hopes of reaching the Champions League play-offs.

The Dutch side lost their opening five matches in Europe this season but have now won back-to-back games to give themselves a chance of finishing inside the top 24.

Villarreal had looked on course to pick up their first win of this Champions League campaign when Tani Oluwaseyi's thumping volley opened the scoring four minutes after the break.

But Oscar Gloukh's free-kick on 61 minutes bypassed everyone and flew into the top corner before Anton Gaaei pulled back for Edvardsen to slot home in the 90th minute.

Ajax defy rain in Spain to book second Champions League win

Ajax kept their flickering hopes of progress in the Champions League alive with a dramatic late win in rain-soaked Villareal.

Oliver Edvardsen came off the bench to snatch an 89th-minute winner as he tucked away a through ball by Anton Gaaei. The Scandinavians duo been put up for sale by Ajax as the club looks to boost its coffers in the transfer window.

An entertaining first half ended goalless, partly thanks to Vitaslav Jaros’ heroics in the Ajax goal as he pulled off fine stops to deny Sergi Cardona and Nicolas Pepe.

The home side took the lead four minutes after the break, as Tani Oluwaseyi beat Aaron Bouwman to a long ball and hit a first-time shot over the flailing Jaros.

Last gasp goal keeps alive Ajax’s Champions League hopes

Edvardsen buried a cutback cross from flying fullback Anton Gaael in the 90th minute to see the Dutch giants, who had lost their first five group games, come from behind to win a second successive tie which means they still have a chance of finishing in the top 24 with a home game to come against Olympiacos of Greece next week.

Villarreal are eliminated, stuck second from bottom with a single point as poor form in Europe contrasts with their third place in LaLiga.

Tani Oluwaseyi had given the hosts a 49th-minute lead with a superb volley but Oscar Gloukh’s free kick saw Ajax equalise in the 61st minute before they snatched a much-needed three points.

Which teams will make it through the league phase of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League and into the knockouts? Well, you can find the Opta supercomputer’s Champions League predictions and points projections on this page.

The UEFA Champions League is back after a six-week break, with plenty still to be decided across the final two matchdays of the 2025-26 league phase.

Finishing in the top eight ensures immediate qualification for the last 16, while teams between ninth and 24th will contest the Champions League play-off round for the right to join the leading sides in the knockout stage.

Just like last season, there is no more Europa League safety net either – the bottom 12 from the 36 and the eight teams who lose in the play-off round will all be immediately eliminated from continental football for this season.

Nottingham Forest vs. Arsenal: Preview, Predictions and Lineups

Arsenal can extend their advantage at the top of the Premier League table with victory at Nottingham Forest.

A stalemate with Liverpool saw Arsenal miss out on the opportunity to move eight points clear of challengers Manchester City and Aston Villa, but back-to-back victories over Portsmouth and Chelsea in the cup competitions have seen them rediscover their winning mojo.

Just two sides have conquered Arsenal this season as they continue to look unflappable in their fight for silverware on four fronts, with Nottingham Forest—then under Ange Postecoglou—simply no match for the north Londoners back in September. Martín Zubbimendi’s surprise brace condemned the Midlands side to a 3–0 defeat.

League legend calls time on Big Bash career for England move

BBL's second-highest wicket taker will end his time in the league at the end of the season

Big Bash icon Andrew Tye is set to bid adieu to the league after announcing the ongoing season will be his last in the competition.

The 39-year-old quick will instead ply his trade as a local player in England's T20 Blast after signing a two-year deal with Yorkshire.

Tye, who switched allegiance to the Melbourne Renegades ahead of BBL|15 after 10 years with the Perth Scorchers, is second among the all-time leading wicket takers in the BBL, only behind Sean Abbott.

But playing opportunities have been scarce for the veteran since his move east – which itself came as the Scorchers turned an eye to the future in the pace-bowling department – with only two games in the red so far this season, making the Yorkshire offer hard to decline.

Yorkshire sign veteran bowler Tye for T20 Blast

Only Sean Abbott has taken more wickets in the Big Bash than Andrew Tye

Yorkshire have signed Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye on a two-year deal for the T20 Blast.

The 39-year-old made 32 T20 appearances for Australia and is the second-highest wicket-taker in the Big Bash.

He has taken 86 wickets in the Blast in spells with Gloucestershire, Durham and Northants.

"It's a real privilege to be signing for Yorkshire. There is a proud tradition of Australian cricketers at Yorkshire and I'm excited to add to this and get amongst it with the guy," he told the club website., external

Australian pacer Andrew Tye signs two-year Vitality Blast deal with Yorkshire

Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye has signed a two-year Vitality Blast contract, bringing experience and firepower to the Yorkshire bowling unit. He is known for his lethal knuckleball, and has established himself as one of the world’s most damaging T20 bowlers, particularly at the death.

The right-arm pacer has taken 47 wickets in 32 T20Is and claimed 86 wickets across six previous Vitality Blast seasons. He currently ranks second on the all-time leading wicket-takers list in the Big Bash League (BBL).

“It’s a real privilege to be signing for Yorkshire. There is a proud tradition of Australian cricketers at Yorkshire and I’m excited to add to this and get amongst it with the guys. I know I can add some real depth of experience to the side. The Blast is a great tournament to be involved in, and I know how important it is to a side like Yorkshire to be in the mix to win it,” said Tye as quoted by Yorkshire.
