Man leaves young son on Mount Fuji before ascending Japan’s highest peak

Boy, seven, had complained of feeling tired so father left him with snacks and a soft drink and continued his climb

A man who abandoned his seven-year-old son on Mount Fuji in Japan after the boy complained of feeling tired while on a family hike has been reprimanded by local police.

A worker on Japan’s highest mountain discovered the child sitting alone on a bench near the sixth station of the Fujinomiya trail at an altitude of more than 2,000 metres (6,500 feet) on Thursday.

After inviting the boy to take shelter at the station, the worker called the police, who took the child into protective custody.

Father leaves 7-year-old son alone on Mount Fuji to continue hike

A father has been reprimanded by police after leaving his son on Japan's highest mountain for several hours with just a soft drink and snack.

The seven-year-old was spotted sitting on a bench on Mount Fuji in foggy and rainy conditions, at a point situated at over 2,000m (6,500ft).

His father, 48, reportedly told him to "wait here" after the boy complained he was tired – and continued the climb with his elder son.

Staff at a mountain hut found the child near the sixth station of a hiking route towards the summit and alerted police. His father was tracked down between the route's seventh and eighth stations – said to be a three-hour hike away.

“This summer, I hiked Mount Fuji with my dad!” sounds like a pretty cool opening for a kid’s how-I-spent-my-summer-vacation essay. The composition gets less heartwarming, though, if it concludes with “And then I got to meet some policemen after he abandoned me on the side of the tallest mountain in Japan.”

And yet, that’s exactly what happened to a 7-year-old boy from Nagoya on Thursday. Early that morning, the boy, his 48-year-old father, and his older brother (a first-year junior high school student, making him either 12 or 13 years old) had started their hike up the Fujinomiya Trail. At somewhere around the trail’s sixth of 10 stations on the way to the summit, the younger child became fussy, complaining that he was tired.

‘It’s honestly surreal’: Wholesome moment leaves A-League player in dream land after nabbing Cole Palmer’s shirt

He also happens to be a professional footballer, but the 25-year-old could barely hide the Blues supporter inside him during Western Sydney Wanderers’ game against Chelsea on Saturday night – and he certainly made no effort to disguise it after the match was over.

After playing an impressive cameo role off the bench in the 10-goal thriller between the two sides, which saw him notch an assist as he setup young teammate Awan Lual for the last of Western Sydney’s four goals in a 6-4 defeat, Carluccio wanted to make sure of one thing.

VIDEO: Chelsea loanee Jesse Derry scores superb goal to open account for Sporting CP & mimics Cole Palmer celebration

Chelsea starlet Jesse Derry marked a memorable start to his loan spell with Sporting CP by scoring a sensational goal in a 2–0 pre-season victory over AS Monaco. The 19-year-old winger, who has joined the Portuguese side on a season-long loan, capped the moment by mimicking Cole Palmer's iconic 'cold' celebration.

Derry arrived at Sporting on loan from Chelsea on July 11 for the duration of the 2026-27 campaign. The youngster came off the bench in the second half of a pre-season clash against Monaco and netted his first goal for the club within ten minutes of entering the pitch. After whipping a brilliant curling strike past goalkeeper Philipp Kohn, Derry celebrated by mimicking Palmer's iconic 'cold' pose.

Kylian Mbappé Leaves World Cup With Legacy Intact But Nothing To Show For It

By now you’ve probably seen the clip on repeat. The moment Kylian Mbappé realized his World Cup dream was slipping away.

It was the 58th minute when Pedro Porro drove a right-footed shot into the back of the net, giving Spain the second goal in what became a 2-0 semifinal victory over France on Tuesday. Standing nearby, Mbappé watched the sequence unfold. As the ball crossed the line, he flung his left arm into the air, wiped his face with his jersey, then walked back toward midfield.

One of soccer’s biggest stars and a player capable of changing a game on his own was unable to do so this time. Not against a perfectly organized and disciplined Spanish side that frustrated France at every turn and made the tournament favorite look ordinary.

Among the other offences, 12 trash containers were set alight on Raymond Queneau street on the outskirts of the city centre, and firefighters were targeted with mortar rounds when arriving on the scene, but were not hit, the prosecutor’s office added.

The 27-year-old outside back made his Broncos debut in 2020 and has since scored 36 tries in 83 appearances for the Club.

Broncos General Manager of Football Operations, Troy Thomson, thanked Arthars for his commitment to the Club.

“Jesse has made a meaningful contribution to the Club since first joining us in 2020 and has become a valued member and a respected leader in our playing group,” Thomson said.

Dumpster diving: In case you missed it, there’s a court case going on involving Woolworths and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. That hearing was marked by a mega-dump of documents from the case posted to the Federal Court’s website. Sensing there may be truffles in there, Cochon went digging.
