Bad news for skyrocketing ticket prices: Live Nation could catch break from Trump admin

It has been 15 years since Tommy Dorfman sued the world’s biggest concert and ticketing company.

The New Jersey–born DJ and promoter accused entertainment giant Live Nation of using its market power to shut out independent promoters and control access to live music.

His lawsuit is still awaiting a court date, but it appears the $37 billion conglomerate might avoid a much bigger courtroom showdown — its battle with the federal government.

The U.S. Department of Justice launched an antitrust case against the company in 2024 claiming Live Nation is operating an illegal monopoly that has driven up concert prices. Dorfman was ecstatic.

Live Nation Can’t Escape DOJ Monopoly Lawsuit as Judge Sends Antitrust Case to Trial

While the judge dismissed parts of the case, he said a jury might find that "artists were coerced into going with Live Nation."

A federal judge on Wednesday (Feb. 18) refused to dismiss the Justice Department’s sweeping monopoly lawsuit against Live Nation, sending the case to trial next month.

Live Nation had asked Judge Arun Subramanian to end the antitrust lawsuit, which aims to break up the company from its Ticketmaster subsidiary, arguing the feds had uncovered little hard evidence after more than a year of discovery.

But in his ruling, the judge said the government could proceed to trial on several key accusations, including that Live Nation abused its vast portfolio of amphitheaters to force artists to use its promotion services.

Hobart will be without captain Nathan Ellis for its knockout BBL final against Melbourne Renegades tomorrow night.

The Hurricanes will also be without Test opener Jake Weatherald, who is opting to focus on red-ball cricket.

Hobart Hurricanes skipper Nathan Ellis will miss his side's Big Bash League elimination final against the Melbourne Stars due to injury.

The quick, who has been replaced by Ben McDermott as captain, was not named in Hobart's squad ahead of the knockout third-versus-fourth clash at Bellreive Oval tomorrow.

It is understood Ellis picked up a niggle in his side's last-start loss to the Heat.

Injured Ellis to miss Knockout as Weatherald prioritises Shield

Hurricanes skipper ruled out of clash with Stars as English allrounder Rehan Ahmed also departs for international duties

Hobart Hurricanes captain Nathan Ellis will miss his side's sudden-death Knockout final against Melbourne Stars after injuring himself in their final match of the regular season.

Ellis was able to complete his four overs in their narrow loss to Brisbane Heat last Wednesday and was not out at the end as the Hurricanes saw their hopes of a top two finish slip away in the final over.

But the club confirmed this afternoon Ellis had been ruled out of tomorrow's home final against the Stars with an unspecified niggle. The right-armer has a big month ahead of him as a key part of Australia's pace attack for the T20 World Cup beginning on February 7.

Weatherald opts for red-ball focus rather than BBL finals return

Jake Weatherald won't be on deck for Hobart Hurricanes in their do-or-die BBL Knockout final against Melbourne Stars, with the Test opener opting for a red-ball focus.

Both sides missed a chance to lock up top spot on the ladder in their final regular-season games and will instead meet in the three-against-four clash at Ninja Stadium on Wednesday night.

Defending champions Hurricanes botched an easy run chase against Brisbane Heat that would have secured first, before Stars lost to Perth Scorchers on Saturday.

Several Test stars, including the Hurricanes' Beau Webster, have made themselves available for the BBL since the Ashes finished.

"People Lined Up Before Opening"… Resale Price Plummets from 170,000 Won to 20,000 Won, Is the 'Labubu' Craze Over?

The fever surrounding the Chinese character doll 'Labubu,' which enjoyed immense global popularity this past summer, is rapidly fading. There was a time when people lined up outside stores before opening and prices soared in the resale market, but recently, both consumer interest and transaction prices have plummeted, signaling a reversal in the trend.

According to Naver Data Lab, over the past six months (from June 17 to December 16), search volume for Labubu peaked at 100 in July and has been steadily declining since. As of December 16, search volume had dropped to just 3 compared to its highest point, indicating a significant decrease in consumer interest. This is a stark contrast to the explosive demand Labubu enjoyed as a must-have item during the summer.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 loses a GOTY award over use of gen AI

The RPG originally launched with AI generated background assets before a patch removed them

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took home the Game of the Year and Debut Game honors at the Indie Game Awards on Thursday, but the teams at developer Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive couldn't celebrate for long. On Saturday, the Indie Game Awards retracted Clair Obscur's honors due to inclusion of generative AI assets at launch that were quickly patched out.

As detailed on the Indie Game Awards' FAQ page, the organization states that "representatives of Sandfall Interactive agreed that no gen AI was used in the development of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" when the game was submitted for awards consideration. "In light of Sandfall Interactive confirming the use of gen AI art in production on the day of the Indie Game Awards 2025 premiere, this does disqualify Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from its nomination." Though the AI generated assets were patched out, their initial inclusion was enough for the Indie Game Awards to disqualify Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and retract its awards.

Indie Game Awards Disqualifies Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Due To Gen AI Usage

The Indie Game Awards took place on December 18, and, as many could assume, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took home the awards for Game of the Year and Debut Game. However, things have changed and The Indie Game Awards are making a big decision to strip the Clair Obscur and developer Sandfall Interactive of their awards over the use of gen AI in the game.

In an announcement made on Saturday afternoon, Six One Indie, the creators of the show, said that it’s removal comes after the discovery after voting was done, and the show was recorded.

“The Indie Game Awards have a hard stance on the use of gen AI throughout the nomination process and during the ceremony itself,” the statement reads. “When it was submitted for consideration, representatives of Sandfall Interactive agreed that no gen AI was used in the development of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

You don’t have to look very hard to find examples of AI backlash in creative industries: Authors are pissed, and so are readers; an AI-generated chart hit is causing a crisis in country music; filmmakers, anticipating criticism from professionals and fans, are preemptively disavowing AI use; even Saturday Night Live, which was recently accused of using AI to generate some “Weekend Update” graphics, can’t escape the chatbot culture wars. AI-generated material is appearing all around us, and quite a few people aren’t happy about it.
