Dozens of aircraft, hundreds of buildings: US loss to Iran attacks revealed

The Pentagon watchdog’s report paints a picture of significant losses to US forces and facilities in the region, far more than previously acknowledged.

A Pentagon watchdog has revealed that the United States lost dozens of aircraft, including at least 30 MQ-9 Reaper drones, and that hundreds of buildings and structures used by the US were damaged or destroyed by Iranian attacks during the conflict.

The report published on Monday by the Department of Defense inspector general offers the first official account of the losses Washington has incurred in the war from February 28 to June 30.

Moreover, the report acknowledges that the US is running short on its munition stockpile and facing “bottlenecks” in supply chains, contradicting President Donald Trump’s repeated pushback. On Monday, Trump said the US is producing “more Exquisite and Elite Weapons than at any time in our History”. Previously, he asserted that the US has “virtually unlimited” ammunition after reports of shortages by the US media.

Iran war has led to US munitions shortfalls, Pentagon inspector confirms

The US defence department's inspector general says the war with Iran has led to "shortfalls" in munitions and a bottleneck in resupply, contradicting President Donald Trump who has repeatedly denied the US is facing shortages.

Trump has claimed US munitions supplies are "virtually unlimited" and said reporting otherwise is "fake news".

But the independent watchdog said the US spent more than $22 billion on munitions from February through to June, leading to "strategic inventory shortfalls".

When asked about the watchdog's report, the White House said the US had "more than enough" munitions.

The report provides a first-of-its-kind, independent glimpse into US weapons stockpiles, data that is typically classified.

‘Massive loss to the industry’: Reaction to Kelly’s resignation

The racing industry in the Sunshine State is processing the bitter shock of having world renowned integrity leader Kim Kelly sensationally quit his post at the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission.

Racenet on Friday morning exclusively revealed Kelly had tendered his resignation as the QRIC deputy commissioner, saying “this is not what I signed up for” in reference to concerns that the body will lose its independence under a new operating structure.

Ausar Thompson exits Pistons' loss to Spurs with ankle sprain

SAN ANTONIO — Detroit Pistons forward Ausar Thompson left Thursday's 121-106 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in the first quarter because of a sprained right ankle and didn't return.

"Ausar obviously means a lot to us," Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. "What we were able to do defensively, what he does defensively, the impact he has, obviously, you miss. We just had to figure out a way collectively to pick it up."

Thompson suffered the injury on a drive to the basket with 9:54 remaining in the opening quarter. With Victor Wembanyama trailing and Stephon Castle defending at the basket, Thompson planted hard off his right foot before immediately limping off the court.

Ausar Thompson, Ron Holland injuries hamper Detroit Pistons vs Spurs

SAN ANTONIO — In their second and final game of the regular season against one of the Western Conference's top contenders, the Detroit Pistons fell short.

They lost to the San Antonio Spurs on the road, 121-106, on Thursday, March 6, to fall to 45-16. Former No. 1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama (38 points, 16 rebounds and five blocks) and De'Aaron Fox (29 points) lifted San Antonio offensively and they held the Pistons to 40.2% shooting.

Cade Cunningham, a former No. 1 overall pick himself, led the Pistons with 26 points and eight rebounds, but was held to 38.5% shooting. The Pistons trailed by as many as 22 points early in the third quarter before getting within eight points with a 25-11 run. But the Spurs pulled away with a 12-7 run to open the fourth, and outscored the Pistons 28-21 in the final period.

Ausar Thompson Injury Update: Pistons Defender Leaves Game vs Spurs with Right Ankle Issue

The Detroit Pistons suffered a worrying moment early in their matchup against the San Antonio Spurs when one of their key defensive players, Ausar Thompson, was forced to leave the game after appearing to suffer a right ankle injury. The incident occurred only a few minutes into the first quarter, immediately raising concern among teammates, coaches, and fans.

Thompson has become an important part of Detroit’s lineup this season, especially on the defensive side of the ball. His energy, ability to guard multiple positions, and overall hustle have played a big role in the Pistons’ success this year. Seeing him leave the court so early in the game created uncertainty for the team, particularly in such a competitive matchup.

World Cup-bound Australia has been well beaten in Lahore, undone by Pakistan's spinners as it crumbled to a whopping 90-run defeat and a T20I series capitulation.

Just hours after the squad for the World Cup in India and Sri Lanka was announced, Mitch Marsh's side, featuring nine of the Cup crew and looking badly in need of its absent big guns, simply couldn't cope with the hosts' five-pronged spin armoury.

Losing the three-match series after just the second game was hardly the way Marsh would have wanted them to warm up for the tournament, which starts for the Aussies against Ireland in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo in 11 days' time.

People coming off weight-loss injections risk fast weight gain

Slimmers who come off weight-loss injections such as Mounjaro or Wegovy can regain their lost pounds four times faster than those who stop conventional dieting and exercising, new research suggests.

Data published in the British Medical Journal suggests overweight people shed large amounts when using jabs – about a fifth of their body weight – but once they quit they regain 0.8 kg every month, on average.

That means they return to their pre-treatment weight in a year and a half.

"People buying these need to be aware of the risk of fast weight regain when the treatment ends," warns investigator Dr Susan Jebb, from Oxford University.

Stopping weight-loss jabs leads to much faster rebound than thought – so are they still worth it?

newsGP – Wegovy recommended for PBS listing

The PBAC recommended it be listed for adults with established cardiovascular disease with obesity, while also identifying which groups could have more affordable access to GLP-1s.

Semaglutide (sold as Wegovy) is now a significant step closer to being added to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for adults with established cardiovascular disease with obesity.

It comes after the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) recommended the listing at its November meeting, releasing its decision late on Friday.

‘Patients must have already experienced a cardiovascular event such as a heart attack, stroke, or have symptomatic peripheral arterial disease,’ PBAC said.

‘To best reach patients at high risk and considering the high cost of treatment, the PBAC determined it would be appropriate to limit PBS access to people with a BMI of 35 kg/m² or higher, or 32.5 kg/m² or higher for people of Asian, Aboriginal, or Torres Strait Islander ethnicity.’

The cost barrier to some Australians accessing weight-loss drugs more broadly could also soon be lifted following new PBAC advice to the health minister.

At the request of Federal Health and Ageing Minister Mark Butler, the PBAC undertook a comprehensive review of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist medicines for obesity, focussing on equitable access.

The PBAC has now released its recommendation on which groups should be prioritised to ensure ‘equitable subsidised access to GLP-1 for the treatment of obesity’.

‘Based on current evidence’, the PBAC considered this should include:
