Mud balls a hot topic at soggy Chevron Championship

HOUSTON – The topic of mud balls came up often during pre-tournament press conferences at soggy Memorial Park. On Thursday, in the opening round of the Chevron Championship, many LPGA players were surprised by the tour's decision to play the ball down.

Two-time Chevron winner Brittany Lincicome counted seven times during the course of her opening round that her ball had enough dirt caked on to impact the flight.

Linn Grant, who opened with a 2-under 70, felt playing preferred lies would've been the right choice after storms rolled through early week, dumping 2.9 inches of rain and shortening the Tuesday pro-am. Officials closed the course three times in two days.

Brazil international Rodrygo will miss the rest of Real Madrid's season and the World Cup because of a torn ACL and meniscus in his right knee.

A source told ESPN that Rodrygo had been feeling soreness in his knee but was injured during Getafe's shock 1-0 victory over Real Madrid on Monday.

"Following tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a rupture of the lateral meniscus of his right leg," the club said in a statement.

Rodrygo to miss World Cup: Real Madrid and Brazil forward suffers serious knee injury

Brazil's Real Madrid forward Rodrygo called it "one of the worst days of my life" after he was ruled out for the rest of the season and 2026 World Cup with a serious knee injury.

The 25-year-old's club said, external he had "been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a rupture of the lateral meniscus of his right leg".

An ACL injury often leads to footballers missing most – and sometimes all – of a season and recovery can sometimes take even longer.

Rodrygo appeared as a second-half substitute for Real in their defeat by Getafe on Monday, completing the game after coming on in the 55th minute.
