Daily Mail accused of stalking woman mistaken as White Stripes drummer Meg White

The tabloid boasted in a now-deleted article that they found White and promised to reveal her ‘secret new life’

The Daily Mail newspaper secretly tailed and photographed a woman in Detroit and then published an article and photographs falsely accusing her of being former The White Stripes drummer Meg White, even after she told the newspaper it had mistaken her identity, multiple sources have told the Guardian.

The rightwing British tabloid quietly removed the article and photographs, first published on 6 August, from its website last week. The Mail did not issue a correction or editor’s note explaining the removal.

The Daily Mail Followed and Photographed the Wrong Woman While Trying to Find Meg White

The Daily Mail apparently went looking for the famously private Meg White and found someone else entirely.

According to a new report from The Guardian, the British tabloid followed and secretly photographed a Detroit woman it believed to be the former White Stripes drummer, then published more than a dozen photos of her in a story promising to reveal White’s “secret new life.” There was just one problem: multiple people close to White say the woman wasn’t her.

In fact, the woman reportedly told the Daily Mail exactly that. When a reporter eventually approached her and identified her as White, she laughed and said they had the wrong person. That didn’t end the investigation. The publication took her subsequent “thank you” after being complimented on The White Stripes’ music as evidence that it had found its target.

NRL Late Mail Round 18: Dolphins lose experienced forward

The Dolphins have been dealt a blow with Ray Stone ruled out of Sunday's clash with the Knights.

The veteran pulled up sore from last week's epic win over the Warriors and did not recover in time for the trip to Newcastle. Youngster Sebastian Su'a is expected to make his NRL debut as a result.

Su'a is one of multiple young guns set to get their chance this weekend with Origin plays in their respective camps ahead of Wednesday's decider at Suncorp Stadium.

Patchwork Parramatta stun Sea Eagles in shock form reversal

A week ago, Eels coach Jason Ryles wasn’t wrong when he lamented his team wouldn’t have “beaten a park footy side” after a particularly demoralising 32-12 loss to Souths.

How to explain then, his patchwork Parramatta outfit rocking Manly’s top-four tilt with a 23-14 upset, set up with a match-winning Jonah Pezet try, and sealed with game-clinching clinched Isaiah Iongi try-saver?

The Eels had $1.3 million halfback Mitchell Moses in Origin camp. His fellow co-captain Junior Paulo is sidelined alongside Will Penisini, Bailey Simonsson, Matt Doorey and J’maine Hopgood. And Manly came in with all the running.

Cruel blow as axed NSW State of Origin hero ruled out and return from injury 'unclear'

Angus Crichton’s hopes of earning a State of Origin recall for Game 3 have been ruined by a foot injury, with the Roosters forward’s return reportedly “unclear”. Crichton has been ruled out of the Roosters’ NRL clash with Cronulla on Sunday night after battling a foot issue for weeks.

The Daily Telegraph reported on Sunday that the injury has been “hampering Crichton for quite some time”, and the 30-year-old will “seek advice” this coming week to determine what it could be. Concerningly, the report states it’s “unclear” how long the second-rower will be sidelined.

Crichton won the Wally Lewis Medal the last time NSW won the State of Origin series in 2024, and all up has represented the Blues 17 times. Matty Johns has called for Laurie Daley to turn to experience for the decider at Suncorp, which would put players like Angus and Stephen Crichton, Liam Martin, Latrell Mitchell, Tom Trbojevic and Api Koroisau all in the frame.
