What we should make of CIA boss's secret trip to Moscow

President Donald Trump said John Ratcliffe's trip to Russia was a "semi-routine" visit but there is nothing routine about the CIA chief making a secret, 10,000-mile return dash to Moscow.

Ratcliffe met Russian intelligence officials on Tuesday – notably his opposite number in Russia's overseas spy agency, Sergei Naryshkin – after arriving unannounced on a US military plane, the Kremlin confirmed.

It's been nearly five years since his predecessor William Burns made this trip and that was at a similarly tense time, just as Russia was drawing up plans to invade Ukraine. So, this is probably serious.

In the absence of any official US comment on the reason for the mission, it is being widely reported Ratcliffe's trip was to warn Moscow not to escalate in relation to the stalemate in Ukraine – possibly by taking action against Nato members.

Battle of the axed: Childbirth and a hamstring injury force changes for Warriors, Panthers

The New Zealand Warriors and Penrith Panthers have both been forced into late changes for Friday night's enormous top-four clash in Auckland.

The Warriors have lost Te Maire Martin to a hamstring injury sustained at training this week, while Penrith will be without Jack Cogger who has remained in Australia as he prepares for the birth of his child.

Cogger will almost certainly only miss a single week before being available for selection again, while Martin could miss a couple of weeks even with a minor hamstring problem.

It's unclear how bad Martin's issue is at this stage, but he was spotted at training with ice on his hamstring.

Shock halves changes for Warriors AND Panthers ahead of Auckland blockbuster

He’s been an unused reserve five times and hasn’t seen NRL action since way back in Round 5.

But Luke Metcalf is set for just his third NRL appearance of 2026 when the Warriors host the Panthers on Friday night in Auckland following a late change in the Wahs’ Round 23 squad.

One of Andrew Webster’s most important players just a season ago, Metcalf has tumbled down the Warriors playmaking pecking order after a season-ending ACL injury in 2025 followed by the spectacular rise of back-up No.7 Tanah Boyd.

Even when Boyd suffered an ACL of his own in Round 11 this season, Metcalf was overlooked for 30-year-old Te Maire Martin who has partnered Chanel Harris-Tavita in the halves since Round 12.

Prince Harry is reportedly hoping to make a rare public appearance with his father King Charles in 2027.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, stepped down as a senior working royal in 2020 and moved to California with his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

He headed home for the Queen's platinum jubilee celebrations in the northern summer of 2022 as well as the late monarch's funeral later in the year and he also made a brief appearance at the King's coronation in May 2023.

Prince Harry Latest News: Prince Harry-King Charles Reunion? Duke of Sussex Reportedly Hopes King Charles Will Attend Invictus Games 2027 Amid Royal Reconciliation Buzz

Prince Harry Latest News: After years of public disagreements and limited contact, Prince Harry is reportedly looking toward the Invictus Games 2027 as a chance to strengthen family ties with King Charles III. According to new reports, the Duke of Sussex hopes his father will attend the international sporting event in Birmingham, potentially marking their first major public appearance together in several years.

The reported invitation comes weeks after the two privately reunited during Harry’s visit to the UK, fueling speculation that the royal family may be moving toward reconciliation.

According to The Mirror, Prince Harry wants King Charles to attend either the opening or closing ceremony of the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. The event holds special significance for Harry, who founded the international competition for wounded, injured and sick military personnel in 2014.

Prince Harry wants William, Kate to join him at Birmingham Invictus Games

Prince Harry is reportedly working to convince King Charles to attend the Invictus Games in Birmingham in 2027 — an appearance that could mark a major public royal reunion and bring the family closer together.

The Duke of Sussex is also expected to extend an invitation to Prince William and Princess Kate to grace the event.

William and Kate's presence would be a huge victory for the Sussexes and a powerful symbol of unity.

However, it is still too early to predict whether the future monarch and Catherine will join the California-based family at the Games, especially as the King appears eager to reconcile with the Sussexes.

Prince Harry reportedly wants to extend a huge olive branch to his father, the King, for next year, and a royal insider has hinted at his motives behind the move. The Duke of Sussex reportedly wants to invite Charles to take part in “either the opening or closing ceremony” of the Invictus Games in Birmingham next year.

According to reports, the invitation could extend to His Majesty potentially visiting “a range of sporting events to meet competitors”. But according to sources, Prince Harry’s wish has a dual purpose. A source told the Mirror: “Harry’s intention is two-fold.

The Justice Department moved on Friday (Saturday AEST) to dismiss a criminal case charging a former Olympian with deliberately damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

Government lawyers said in a 20-page court filing that information provided since the indictment of David Hearn shows that the damage was the result of a “flawed installation by the contractor” as well as “the rush to complete the project prior to events associated with the America 250 celebration in the weeks surrounding Independence Day 2026″.

An F-35B fighter jet crashed near a US Marine Corps base in San Diego on Friday morning, sparking a small fire that first responders doused.

The pilot, who has not been publicly identified, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to a statement from the Marine Corps Miramar air base. “The pilot ejected, was transported to a local medical facility in stable condition for evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries,” the Marine Corps said in an updated statement.

It’s unclear what led to the crash, which officials characterized as a “Class A mishap”. That’s the most severe mishap category, used when the damage totals more than $2m, an aircraft is destroyed or a service member killed.

ST KILDA has made a change minutes before the first bounce against North Melbourne with Rowan Marshall ruled out.

Marshall will miss with a back spasm and has been replaced by Anthony Caminiti.

It came after Cooper Sharman was ruled out an hour before the bounce and replaced by Dan Butler.

The Roos (8-10) continue to frustrate as they added Melbourne to the finals contenders that they have at least challenged before suffering a defeat, extending their record of failing to beat a side currently sitting in the top 10.

The Kangaroos' wildcard hopes are hanging by a thread and the clash with the Saints is their last match-up against a bottom-half side in a tough run home.

"Desperate move": Cornes pans Saints over recalling King

Max King is set to suit up for St Kilda's AFL side for the first time in 756 days.

But Kane Cornes has questioned the Saints' decision to play the 26-year-old this week, calling the move desperate.

The former No. 4 pick has not played an AFL match since Round 16, 2024, having battled with knee, calf and hamstring injuries throughout the last two seasons.

King appeared to be on track for a return earlier in the season, having managed to get through the Saints’ Round 5 clash against Gold Coast in the VFL unscathed.

But in their match against the Blues the following week, King came off with a hamstring strain, delaying his return for several weeks.

Team update: Nicks confirms early Round 20 selection news

A key defender has been ruled out of our match against Collingwood.

Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks has ruled out key defender Mark Keane from the Crows’ Round 20 clash against Collingwood at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday morning, Nicks said Keane would miss the game due to illness, with fellow backman Nick Murray set to be included in the team.

“You would’ve noticed Mark Keane wasn't out there (at Captain’s run),” Nicks said.

“It's been one that's just stuck around, so he's not going to play.

“Nick Murray will play for us, so that's straightforward. Muz has been in really strong form in the SANFL, so it’s disappointing for Mark, but reinforces the strength of the squad and how important it is.”

Man Utd Make Transfer U-Turn Over 6ft 5ins Midfielder

Manchester United chiefs and Michael Carrick continue in their quest for a third midfield signing this summer and have once again whittled down the club's shopping list.

The Red Devils have already announced two marquee arrivals in former Chelsea man Andrey Santos and ex Aston Villa star Youri Tielemans. Nearly £85million has already been invested, but Man Utd are not done there.

The club is known to have identified the need for three new players in the centre of the park following the departure of Casemiro and serious injury to Manuel Ugarte. That final acquisition is set to be a more shrewd purchase than the large fees forked out for Santos and Tielemans.

Manchester United make fresh contact to sign 28-year-old Premier League powerhouse

Manchester United are interested in signing the Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, they have made renewed contact with the 28-year-old, and he could be available for a fee of under £40 million.

The midfielder has had an impressive World Cup campaign with Norway, helping them reach the quarter-final. He has impressed in the Premier League with Fulham as well. There is no doubt that he could be a very useful option for Manchester United.

They are looking to bring in three midfielders this summer following Casemiro’s departure, and they have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. It appears that the Fulham star could be the third midfield addition for Manchester United this summer.

Report: Man United seriously considering surprise move for Premier League midfielder

Manchester United’s midfield rebuild is clearly not finished, and Sander Berge has moved from background option to serious candidate. According to TeamTalk, United are discussing the Fulham midfielder internally as they refine a shortlist that has already produced two arrivals and could yet deliver a third central signing.

The report states that United are “once again discussing Fulham midfielder Sander Berge internally” and that the Norway international is “emerging as a serious option” as the club push on with reshaping the centre of the pitch. It is the sort of move that makes practical sense. Berge is experienced, knows the Premier League, fills a specific need and, crucially, would not blow up the budget.
